      Tovar went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to Washington.

      Advice: Tovar was stuck in a small 1-for-18 slump over his previous five games before Friday's strong performance. He put the Rockies on the board with a solo shot in the third inning, giving him 12 homers this year and four in his last 13 contests.       Ezequiel Tovar homered while going 3-for-5 in a loss Friday to the Nationals.

      Advice: The Rockies were able to pick up three homers off DJ Herz, and Tovar hit a solo shot off Herz in the third for his 12th homer of the year. The 22-year-old shortstop has put together a very strong first half of 2024 in his second full season with a .280 average, 799 OPS and 36 RBI.       Wyatt Langford went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI on Friday evening as the Rangers triumphed over the Royals.

      Advice: Langford got the Rangers on the board in the fourth inning with a game-tying RBI double off of Royals’ right-hander Brady Singer. He then tied the game again in the sixth inning with a run-scoring single. The 22-year-old phenom seems to be coming into his own a bit over the past few weeks and is now slashing .249/.309/.349 on the season to go with two long balls, 26 RBI and seven swipes.       Austin Riley went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and two walks on Friday against the Yankees.

      Advice: Riley’s OPS has climbed from .618 to .744 in exactly one week. That is truly remarkable. It already feels like his putrid April and May will be a distant memory soon. If there was any question, the buy-low window on Riley has slammed shut. Rotoworld Friday, 7:27 pm

    • Jasson Domínguez out two months with oblique strain
      According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Jasson Domínguez will miss up to eight weeks with an oblique strain.

      Advice: We knew an oblique strain would keep Domínguez out for at least a couple weeks, but this is an extensive period of time and one that could threaten his ability to contribute big-league at-bats this season. If Domínguez doesn’t return to minor league action until late August and then gets a couple of weeks to get his timing back at Triple-A, it would be September even before the Yankees can think about promoting him. If all goes well, he could be a candidate for a mid-September call-up, but the Yankees would then be thrusting him into a major role in the middle of a pennant race after missing a major chunk of time. It’s a shame because he was looking great after Tommy John surgery, hitting .356/.404/.609 with six homers and 13 RBIs in 23 games across three levels. Rotoworld Thursday, 12:05 pm

    • Maikel Garcia gets a day off on Thursday
      Maikel Garcia is not in the Royals’ lineup for Thursday’s game against the Athletics.

      Advice: The 24-year-old is hitting just .145 in 16 games in June with 12 strikeouts. He does have four steals and 10 runs scored and is coming off a month of May where he hit .305, so this might be nothing but a brief cold stretch. The Royals will hope a day off helps him get back on track. In the meantime, Garrett Hampson will start at second base and hit eighth with Nick Loftin moving over to third base.
