    • Giants acquire Casey McGehee from Marlins
Giants acquired INF Casey McGehee from the Marlins for RHP Kendry Flores and RHP Luis Castillo.

Advice: The 32-year-old third baseman may seem like an underwhelming addition to replace Pablo Sandoval at the hot corner for the Giants, but if he can replicate the .287/.355/.357 that he hit in 2014 while playing solid defense, he'll win over Giants fans. Just don't expect much from a fantasy perspective, as his power was non-existent in Miami. Rotoworld.com

    • Giants to acquire Casey McGehee from Marlins
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Giants have agreed to acquire Casey McGehee from the Marlins.

Advice: No word yet on the potential return package heading to the Fish in the deal, but both Hunter Strickland and Matt Duffy had been mentioned in trade talks.. McGehee is coming off a terrific season in 2014 where he slashed .287/.355/.357 with 76 RBI in 160 games. With what is available on the market, he's perhaps the best fit both offensively and defensively for the Giants. Rotoworld.com

    • Giants talking McGehee trade with Marlins
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Giants have had trade discussions with the Marlins involving Casey McGehee.

Advice: McGehee is suddenly expendable following the addition of Martin Prado. Rosenthal says that reliever Hunter Strickland and infielder Matt Duffy are two Giants players involved in the talks. After spending 2013 in Japan, McGehee won National League Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2014, batting .287/.355/.357 with four home runs and 76 RBI over 160 games. Rotoworld.com

    • Garrett Jones lands with Yankees
Yankees acquired 1B/OF Garrett Jones from the Marlins in the Nathan Eovaldi trade.

Advice: Jones hit .246/.309/.411 with 15 homers last season as the Marlins' main first baseman. He's been pretty good versus right-handed pitching in his career (.811 OPS) and offers a bit of versatility with the ability to play first base and the corner outfield spots. Rotoworld.com

    • Pirates ink Corey Hart to one-year contract
Pirates signed 1B/OF Corey Hart to a one-year contract.

Advice: CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says Hart will receive $2.5 million and have a chance to earn $2.5 million more through incentives. Hart figures to platoon at first base with Pedro Alvarez while providing another option in a loaded Pirates outfield. The 32-year-old batted just .203/.271/.319 with six homers over 68 games in 2014 after missing the 2013 campaign with knee issues. If he proves to be healthy -- which is a big question -- Hart could be a nice gamble on a one-year deal. Rotoworld.com

    • Giants 'remain interested' in Chris Johnson
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Giants "remain interested" in Chris Johnson.

Advice: They have an opening at the hot corner after losing out on the Pablo Sandoval and Chase Headley sweepstakes, but it's debatable as to how much of an upgrade Johnson would be. The 30-year-old batted just .263/.292/.361 in 2014 for Atlanta and is a career .283/.319/.419 hitter over six seasons. Rotoworld.com

    • Shane Peterson claimed by Cubs
Cubs claimed OF/1B Shane Peterson off waivers from the Athletics.

Advice: Peterson had been designated for assignment last week. The former second-round pick has limited experience in the majors but batted .308/.381/.460 this past season at Triple-A. He could be an option for the Cubs' bench. Rotoworld.com

    • Dodgers officially acquire C Yasmani Grandal
Dodgers acquired C Yasmani Grandal and RHPs Joe Wieland and Zach Eflin from the Padres in exchange for OF Matt Kemp, C Tim Federowicz and cash considerations.

Advice: Grandal came on strong at the end of last season as he further distanced himself from ACL surgery, hitting .291/.408/.519 with four homers in September. The switch-hitting catcher has plenty of upside offensively and the Dodgers are hoping he'll help offset some of the offense they'll lose by trading away Kemp. Rotoworld.com

    • Stephen Vogt has walking boot removed
Stephen Vogt had the walking boot removed from his surgically-repaired right foot Thursday.

Advice: Vogt had surgery in October to repair the plantar plates in his foot. It's an injury he dealt with throughout the second half of the season and he noted Thursday that it's the first time since July he can put a shoe on his right foot and walk without any pain. Vogt will be fine for the start of spring training. Rotoworld.com

    • Blue Jays sign Daric Barton to minors deal
Blue Jays signed 1B Daric Barton to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Barton appeared in just 30 games this past season with the A's, batting just .158/.234/.175 with zero homers and five RBI. He's a former first-round pick and highly-ranking first base prospect, but the ship has probably sailed for the 29-year-old. Rotoworld.com

    • Report: Garrett Jones drawing trade interest
Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that Garrett Jones is generating trade interest.

Advice: The Marlins are getting calls on the heels of a reported agreement with free agent Michael Morse. Jones could stick around as a left-handed backup first baseman and outfielder, but Frisaro hears that he'll most likely be dealt. The 33-year-old is set to earn $5 million in 2015. Rotoworld.com

    • Rangers optimistic about re-signing Rosales
Jeff Wilson of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram writes that the Rangers are optimistic about re-signing Adam Rosales.

Advice: Rosales was non-tendered by the Rangers in December, but they still hope to bring him back for a lesser salary. The 31-year-old batted .262 with four home runs and a .706 OPS over 56 games this season and would function as a utility infielder if he returns. Rotoworld.com

    • Orioles ink Tuiasosopo to minors deal
Orioles signed OF Matt Tuiasosopo to a minor league contract.

Advice: He'll presumably receive an invite to major league spring training. Tuiasosopo, 28, spent all of 2014 at the Triple-A level between the White Sox and Blue Jays and batted .240/.357/.379 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI over 122 games. He could be in the mix for a bench job in the spring, but will likely begin 2015 in the minors. Rotoworld.com

    • Astros ink Dan Johnson to minors deal
Astros signed 1B Dan Johnson to a minor league contract.

Advice: It presumably comes along with an invitation to spring training. Johnson made it up for 15 games with the Blue Jays in 2014 and slashed .232/.381/.434 with 18 homers and 56 games in 107 contests at Triple-A Buffalo. He's simply a depth add for the Astros. Rotoworld.com

    • Braves bring aboard Callaspo with $3M deal
Braves signed INF Alberto Callaspo to a one-year, $3 million contract.

Advice: The deal was reported last week and has now become official. Callaspo struggled in 2014 for the A's, batting .223/.290/.290 with four homers and 39 RBI in 451 plate appearances. He'll serve as the Braves' second baseman until prospect Jose Peraza is deemed major league-ready. Rotoworld.com

    • Royals, Morales finalize two-year, $17M pact
Royals signed DH Kendrys Morales to a two-year, $17 million contract with a mutual option for 2017.

Advice: Morales gets $6.5 million in 2015 and $10.5 million in 2016, and he can make up to $750,000 per year in performance-based bonuses. It's a pretty nice deal for a 31-year-old designated hitter who only managed a .218/.274/.338 slash line in 98 games this past season between the Mariners and Twins. Kansas City will be hoping for a big bounceback. Rotoworld.com

    • Mets announce one-year deal with Mayberry
Mets signed OF John Mayberry Jr. to a one-year, $1.45 million contract.

Advice: The deal also carries some performance-based incentives. Mayberry does well against left-handed pitching and should see semi-regular action in New York between the corner outfield spots and first base. Over the course of his career, he's hit .272/.323/.533 versus southpaws. Rotoworld.com

    • Rangers reach agreement with Kyle Blanks
Rangers signed 1B Kyle Blanks to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: It's a split contract, carrying different salaries for his time spent in the minors and majors. Blanks was designated for assignment and then non-tendered by the A's earlier this offseason after appearing in only 26 games in 2014 due to a lingering Achilles issue. But the 6-foot-6, 265-pound first baseman was certainly worth a shot on a low-risk deal for Texas. He's had a couple nice stretches of production when healthy. Rotoworld.com

    • A's designate Shane Peterson for assignment
Athletics designated 1B Shane Peterson for assignment.

Advice: Peterson was acquired from the Cardinals in 2009 as part of the Matt Holliday trade but only logged eight plate appearances for the A's. The 26-year-old did post a decent .308/.381/.460 batting line this past season at Triple-A, so he could draw interest on waivers. Rotoworld.com

    • Royals sign Kendrys Morales for 2 yrs, $17M
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Royals have signed free agent Kendrys Morales to a two-year, $17 million contract.

Advice: The deal also includes around $1.5 million in performance-based bonuses and a mutual option for 2017. Morales batted just .218/.274/.338 with eight homers and 42 RBI in 98 games this past season between the Mariners and Twins, but he's only 31 years old so maybe there's better production ahead. He'll become the Royals' new designated hitter. Billy Butler departed for the A's in November on a three-year, $30 million free agent deal. Rotoworld.com

    • Mets agree to major league deal with Mayberry
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Mets have signed John Mayberry to a major league contract.

Advice: It's a one-year deal worth $1.45 million. Mayberry hits well against left-handed pitching and fit the Mets' need for a right-handed player who can cover the corner outfield spots and handle some first base. Rotoworld.com
