  • M's place Bloomquist on 15-day DL
Mariners placed INF Willie Bloomquist on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee contusion.

Advice: Bloomquist apparently suffered the injury during Wednesday's game. Chris Taylor has essentially taken his place on the active roster and could push Brad Miller for playing time at shortstop. Rotoworld.com

  • Juan Francisco homers, knocks in four
Juan Francisco missed a cycle by a double and drove in four runs Thursday in the win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Francisco's second-inning triple should have been caught -- it deflected off Jackie Bradley Jr.'s glove -- but it was a well-hit ball. The homer was his 15th in 215 at-bats this season. He's always going to strike out too much to hit for average, but he's been quite a contributor this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) in lineup Thurs.
Marwin Gonzalez is in the Astros' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon versus the Athletics.

Advice: Gonzalez was pulled from Wednesday's game with soreness in his right hamstring -- something he's been dealing with since last week. But it's a manageable injury and he'll start at shortstop on Thursday. Gonzalez is batting .294/.333/.412 so far in July. He took over starting duties from Jonathan Villar at the end of June. • Mets recall Wilmer Flores from AAA Vegas
Mets recalled SS Wilmer Flores from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Flores has batted just .225/.253/.300 in 83 plate appearances this season at the major league level, but the 22-year-old infielder has been a force in the Pacific Coast League. He was rated a Top 75 prospect this winter by Baseball Prospectus and may carry mixed-league fantasy value if he finds consistent playing time in New York. Rotoworld.com

  • Mariners 3B prospect Peterson hits home run
Mariners third base prospect D.J. Peterson went 2-for-4 with a home run for Double-A Jackson on Wednesday.

Advice: After hitting .326/.381/.615 over 65 games with High-A High Desert, Peterson has hit .312/.363/.527 with five doubles and five home runs with Double-A Jackson. He has continued to hit at a high level despite playing in a more neutral offensive environment and the more advanced pitching in Double-A. Peterson profiles as a slugging corner infielder who hits for a solid average with good power, though he may need to move across the diamond to first base if he does not improve his defense. Either way, his bat has the potential to make him a perennial All-Star at any position. Rotoworld.com

  • Marwin Gonzalez pulled Wed. with sore hammy
Marwin Gonzalez was pulled from Wednesday's loss to the A's with soreness in his right hamstring.

Advice: "It happened the second game in Chicago (on Saturday), I got sore running the bases and since that day I've been playing with (soreness)," Gonzalez told reporters late Wednesday night. "So I've been dealing with it." The shortstop is hoping to play in Thursday's series finale. He's hit well since taking over for Jonathan Villar. Rotoworld.com

  • Valencia (hand) goes 0-for-3 in return Wed.
Danny Valencia (hand) finished 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his return to the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: Valencia was hit on the left hand by a Chris Sale pitch on Monday and suffered a minor bruise. The backup infielder is hitting .287/.333/.389 in 34 games this year. Rotoworld.com

  • Callaspo (hamstring) could be back Sunday
A's manager Bob Melvin said Alberto Callaspo (hamstring) could be activated Sunday when first eligible.

Advice: It will come right down to the wire, as Tuesday was the first day he was able to take batting practice since being placed on the DL. The veteran infielder may not need a rehab stint before being activated. Rotoworld.com

  • Pirates recall 3B Morel from Triple-A Indy
Pirates recalled 3B Brent Morel from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Morel was recalled to take the spot of Starling Marte, who hit the disabled list with a concussion. Morel is hitting .246/.318/.342 and will serve as infield depth for the Pirates. Rotoworld.com

  • Reynolds homers twice, Brewers sweep Reds
Mark Reynolds slugged two home runs Wednesday in the Brewers' 5-1 defeat of the visiting Reds.

Advice: Reynolds' offensive outburst helped Milwaukee to a big three-game sweep of Cincinnati. He hit a two-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth inning and then smacked a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth. The first baseman is batting just .207 this year, but he now has 16 home runs. • Gallo blasts 32nd home run
Rangers prospect 3B Joey Gallo went 4-for-7 with a home run and five RBI on Tuesday in a double header for Double-A Frisco.

Advice: The 20-year-old slugger went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in game one of the double dip, and then followed it with a 3-for-4, three RBI performance in the night cap. The home run was Gallo's 32nd of the season, which puts him one back of Kris Bryant (33 HR) for the minor league lead. Meanwhile, he now has six hits in his last 10 at-bats at Frisco after going 3-for-22 with 13 strikeouts following his impressive showing in the Futures Games. Rotoworld.com

  • Kelly Johnson (groin) placed on DL
Yankees placed INF/OF Kelly Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin.

Advice: Johnson suffered the injury during Tuesday's win over the Rangers. It's only a Grade 1 strain, so Johnson should return when his 15 days are up. However, even he's back he faces an uphill battle for playing time following the acquisition of Chase Headley. Rotoworld.com

  • Cubs have discussed moving Kris Bryant to RF
CSN Chicago's Patrick Mooney reports that the Cubs have had internal discussions about moving third base prospect Kris Bryant to right field.

Advice: Bryant is, at best, an adequate defensive third baseman, but the Cubs are content to leave him there for now. However, a position switch to right field could eventually come. "He can do it," general manager Jed Hoyer said of moving Bryant to the outfield. "He played center in college, and he's played right. He feels good out there. The biggest focus for him right now is he's working on his defense. He is almost 6-6, and with that the fundamentals of playing third base are more challenging. In the future, I would never say never that we wouldn't put him out there. But right now, our focus is third." Rotoworld.com

  • Schoop collects two hits and homers vs LAA
Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Angels.

Advice: The blast was Schoop's eighth of the year and put him up to 26 RBI. Despite the homer, the second baseman is batting just .220/.256/.338 this season and doesn't merit serious fantasy consideration. Rotoworld.com

  • Moustakas' two homers help Royals down ChiSox
Mike Moustakas went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in the Royals' 7-1 win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Advice: When it rains, it pours for Moustakas -- he'd hit just two home runs since June 21 and he hadn't driven in a run in his past eight games prior to Tuesday's outburst. The homers give Moustakas 12 home runs on the season to go with a .198/.262/.391 line. Games like Tuesday's remind of his potential, but the third baseman is just too inconsistent to be relied upon in fantasy realms. Rotoworld.com

  • Kelly Johnson nursing groin injury
Kelly Johnson will undergo an MRI after leaving Tuesday's game against the Rangers with a groin injury.

Advice: It's been a bad 24 hours for Johnson, as the groin ailment was preceded by the Yankees acquiring Chase Headley to take over at third base. The Bombers should have an update on Johnson's condition on Wednesday. Rotoworld.com

  • Mike Olt optioned to Triple-A
Cubs optioned 3B Mike Olt to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: The last straw was Olt going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Tuesday, dropping his season line to .139/.222/.353 and his K/BB ratio to 84/19. Olt obviously has plus raw power, but he has a lot of holes in his swing and could struggle to carve out a long-term niche on a team with a boatload of position prospects on the way. Rotoworld.com

Alberto Callaspo (hamstring) took a successful round of batting practice Tuesday.

Advice: It's the first time he's done so since landing on the DL. Callaspo has also done some running, though he's yet to run the bases. He's expected to be activated in the middle of next week if all goes well. Rotoworld.com

  • Bloomquist's 3 hits leads Mariners to victory
Willie Bloomquist went 3-for-5 with a steal, two runs scored, and an RBI double in a win over the Mets on Monday.

Advice: Somebody out there will wake up tomorrow morning grinning ear-to-ear that Bloomquist was in his AL-only fantasy lineup tonight. Chances are, that isn't you. In truth, nobody could have seen a big night coming from the veteran utilityman. This was Bloomquist's first steal of the season, his first three-hit game of the year, and the double represented his first extra-base hit since June 22. Willie Bloomquist will now return to being Willie Bloomquist. Rotoworld.com

  • X-ray on Valencia's hand are negative

  • Alberto Callaspo could return next week
Alberto Callaspo (hamstring) thinks he'll be ready for activation just a couple days after he's eligible next Sunday.

Advice: It's possible that Callaspo will play a few rehab games before the A's activate him. The veteran infielder has been on the shelf since mid-July with a strained right hamstring. Rotoworld.com
