  • Dodgers cut ties with INF Alberto Callaspo
    Dodgers released INF Alberto Callaspo.

Advice: Callaspo was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on August 19 to open up a roster spot for Chase Utley. Callaspo, 32, is batting just .235/.315/.278 in 97 games this year between Los Angeles and Atlanta. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 11:15 am

  • Freese (finger) could return early next week
David Freese (finger) is expected to be activated from the disabled list early next week in Oakland.

Advice: Freese has been with Triple-A Salt Lake since Sunday and will begin playing third base there on Friday. The third baseman has been on the disabled list since July 23 with a non-displaced fracture in his right index finger. He's hitting .240/.309/.397 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 90 games this season for the Angels. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:35 am

  • Ryan Flaherty goes 2-for-3, homers
Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk versus the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Flaherty should be the Orioles' primary shortstop the next week with J.J. Hardy out. It doesn't make him a great mixed-league option, but he could be a cheap DFS play from time to time. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:54 pm

  • Adonis Garcia goes 3-for-5, homers
Adonis Garcia went 3-for-5 and hit his sixth homer Wednesday against the Rockies.

Advice: Garcia has shown ample pop, but he has a .256 OBP in 114 at-bats and he's a bad defender at third. He's due to become a backup next week when Hector Olivera arrives in the majors. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:31 pm

  • Eduardo Escobar homers twice in Twins' win
Eduardo Escobar hit a pair of solo homers to lead the Twins to a 5-3 win over the Rays on Wednesday.

Advice: That's three homers and three doubles in five games for Escobar, who has pushed his OPS over .700. He's going to finish out the season as the Twins' starting shortstop after spending much of the first half as a utilityman. Still, he doesn't really have a lot to offer mixed leaguers. • Castellanos drills solo homer in win vs. LAA
Nick Castellanos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run as the Tigers topped the Angels 5-0 on Wednesday.

Advice: Castellanos started the scoring in the second inning with a solo homer off of Hector Santiago. It's his ninth home run in 36 second-half games, accounting for 60 percent of his 15 total long balls on the season. Castellanos has driven in 63 runs and compiled an adequate .248/.303/.424 batting line. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:19 pm
  • 'Good chance' Franco (wrist) returns in '15
Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin said there is a "good chance" Maikel Franco (wrist) returns before the end of the season.

Advice: Just Tuesday Mackanin expressed optimism that Franco will be back sometime this year, but now he's moved on to handicapping the likelihood. Franco has been out since August 11 with a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist. Even if he does return, the probability is in question enough that it probably won't be for any meaningful length of time. He should be fine for the start of the 2016 season, though. Chris Johnson (infection) hit balls off a tee on Monday.

Advice: Johnson has been on the shelf since a spider bite on his left thumb on August 14 became infected. He's had to have the infection drained twice. "I ended up having an infection and they had to treat it with antibiotics," said Johnson. "The last two days I've finally been able to swing the bat." • Sano belts three-run blast in Twins' outburst
Miguel Sano hit a three-run homer and scored two runs as the Twins prevailed in an 11-7 slugfest against the Rays on Tuesday.

Advice: Sano hit a three-run shot in the first inning, his only hit in four at-bats. The homer was his fifth in his last eight games and Sano's 12th overall. The slugger is hitting .287/.397/.592 with 37 RBI in his first 45 major league games. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 8:40 pm

  • Ramirez has RBI single, run scored Tuesday
Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a loss to the Marlins on Tuesday.

Advice: Ramirez had a hand in both of the Pirates' runs on the night, swatting an RBI single in the first inning before singling and scoring in the ninth. It didn't lead the Bucs to a comeback, but it was a good night for the 37-year-old, who has just two multi-hit games since August 9. Regardless, Ramirez will continue to be the Pirates' everyday third baseman down the stretch and is hitting .249/.292/.408 overall. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 7:30 pm
  • Freese (finger) to begin playing 3B at AAA
David Freese (finger) will begin playing third base at Triple-A Salt Lake later this week.

Advice: Freese has been with Salt Lake since Sunday, but he won't be tried in the field for another 3-4 days. • Mackanin hopeful about Franco
Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin is optimistic that Maikel Franco (wrist) will be able to play again this season.

Advice: Franco has been sidelined since August 11 with a non-displaced fracture in his left wrist. He's currently wearing a brace on the wrist, but Mackanin said last week that the break is not as bad as originally thought. "I’m optimistic that he might be able to come back," said Mackanin. "I’m not sure the medical people are going to allow us to use him unless he’s 100 percent. If he’s 100 percent, I’d like his bat back in the lineup and I’d like his glove back in the lineup." The Phillies have nothing to play for right now, so there's no reason to rush him back into action. While the door hasn't been officially closed on his season, fantasy owners shouldn't count on him. • Sano jumps Twins to lead with two-run homer
Miguel Sano went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, a double and three strikeouts in Sunday's 12-inning win over the Orioles.

Advice: Sano pounced on an offering by Kevin Gausman in the first inning, launching it for a two-run home run. The bomb was his 11th of the season. The 22-year-old has had no issues, at all, adjusting to major league pitching thus far. In 43 games, he's slashing .288/.397/.582 with those 11 bombs, plus 34 RBI. • Kaleb Cowart hits first home run
Kaleb Cowart hit his first major league home run Saturday off the Blue Jays' Marco Estrada.

  • Danny Valencia (hamstring) will have an MRI
Danny Valencia (hamstring) is not in the Athletics starting lineup Saturday against the Rays.

  • Aramis Ramirez not in Pirates starting lineup
Aramis Ramirez is not in the Pirates starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Giants.

Advice: With opposing right-hander Mike Leake on the hill, the Pirates will roll with Josh Harrison at third base while Pedro Alvarez gets the start at first base. Since being acquired from the Brewers, Ramirez is hitting .253/.278/.352 with one homer and 16 RBI in 23 games. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 10:37 am
  • Kaleb Cowart still hitless since callup
Kaleb Cowart went 0-for-3 on Friday and has opened his big-league career 0-for-13 with six strikeouts.

Advice: It's no surprise that Cowart is looking overmatched against big-league pitching. It's also something that doesn't figure to change right away. The Angels really should have stuck with Conor Gillaspie at third base and hoped for the best. Rotoworld.com Friday, 10:42 pm
  • Sano has two hits, two runs scored in win
Miguel Sano went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored Friday against the Orioles.

Advice: Another impressive night at the plate for the 22-year-old rookie. Sano is now batting .290/.400/.572 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI over his first 42 games in the majors. David Freese (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

  • Eduardo Escobar goes 3-for-5, homers
Eduardo Escobar went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double as the Twins' No. 9 hitter on Thursday.

Advice: It's bizarre how little shortstop Escobar was playing there for a spell, particularly after the Twins initially sent down Danny Santana, but he's getting his chance to claim the job now. He's not a great hitter or a great defender, but he'd seem to offer the best mix of offense and defense in the organization. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:33 pm

  • Jose Iglesias goes 0-for-4
Jose Iglesias went 0-for-4 against the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: Iglesias's fantasy value got a little boost during his time as a No. 2 hitter, but with Miguel Cabrera back, he's hitting low in the order again now, limiting his chances to score runs. He really hasn't offered anything except a surprisingly strong average all season long. Factoring in defense and the nice OBP, he has a case as the AL's best shortstop this year. However, with just 2 homers, 21 RBI and 39 runs scored in 379 at-bats, he's hardly been a fantasy star. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:20 pm
  • Nick Castellanos homers twice, doubles twice
Nick Castellanos went 4-for-5, two homers, two doubles and five RBI as the Tigers smoked the Cubs 15-8 on Wednesday.

Advice: Castellanos joined Denard Span and Jackie Bradley Jr. as the only players with four extra-base hits in a game this season. He's the first Tiger to do it since Ivan Rodriguez on Apr. 5, 2006. Castellanos seemed to be turning his season around in July, but he had gone right back to slumping this month (.222, 1 HR, 5 RBI in 13 games) before busting out tonight. The talent is there for him to turn into a quality regular, but he's only shined against lefties this season (all four hits tonight came off southpaws). He's not going to be promised anything in 2016 unless he puts together a strong finish. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 9:20 pm

Dodgers designated INF Alberto Callaspo for assignment.

Miguel Sano went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Wednesday afternoon's loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Sano entered the contest having homered in both previous games in the series, but he couldn't make it three straight, as Nathan Eovaldi handcuffed the Twin offense. While the 22-year-old supernova will take some strikeouts, his bat is as dynamic as they come and he's slashing .285/.394/.555 with nine home runs and 29 RBI across 137 at-bats. Advice: Freese threw Tuesday without pressure on his broken finger and the hope is that he’ll be able to throw with pressure by the end of the week. The rookie has homered in back-to-back games, now with nine overall along with 29 RBI and a superb .291/.398/.567 batting line in 161 plate appearances.
