    • Mariners re-sign infielder Carlos Rivero
Mariners re-signed 3B Carlos Rivero to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Rivero was non-tendered by the M's earlier this month, but he's now back with the organization on a non-guaranteed minor league deal. The 26-year-old infielder spent most of the 2014 season between Double-A and Triple-A, hitting .264/.324/.379 in 105 games. Rotoworld.com

    • Angels' negotiations with Beckham stall
The Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher reported that negotiations between the Angels and INF Gordon Beckham are not currently progressing.

Advice: Fletcher wrote that the Angels were still looking to bring back Beckham. The most obvious reason as to why negotiations have hit a snag is that Beckham is presumably looking for a guaranteed starting role in the majors. Given his .226/.271/.348 slash-line in 2014, it's probably not realistic that Beckham will have consistent starting at-bats next season. Rotoworld.com

    • Rockies sign INF Descalso to a two-year deal
Rockies signed INF Daniel Descalso to a two-year, $3.6 million contract.

Advice: ESPN's Jerry Crasnick passed along the contract terms. Descalso was non-tendered by the Cardinals earlier this month after batting just .244/.333/.311 over 104 games this past season, but he's capable of playing all over the infield. He'll essentially replace Josh Rutledge in a utility role. Rotoworld.com

    • Rangers optimistic about re-signing Rosales
Jeff Wilson of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram writes that the Rangers are optimistic about re-signing Adam Rosales.

Advice: Rosales was non-tendered by the Rangers in December, but they still hope to bring him back for a lesser salary. The 31-year-old batted .262 with four home runs and a .706 OPS over 56 games this season and would function as a utility infielder if he returns. Rotoworld.com

    • Astros designate INF Petit for assignment
Astros designated INF Gregorio Petit for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Jed Lowrie on the Astros' 40-man roster. Petit, 29, batted .278/.300/.423 with two home runs and a 25/1 K/BB ratio in 37 games this past season. Rotoworld.com

    • Braves bring aboard Callaspo with $3M deal
Braves signed INF Alberto Callaspo to a one-year, $3 million contract.

Advice: The deal was reported last week and has now become official. Callaspo struggled in 2014 for the A's, batting .223/.290/.290 with four homers and 39 RBI in 451 plate appearances. He'll serve as the Braves' second baseman until prospect Jose Peraza is deemed major league-ready. Rotoworld.com

    • D'Backs sign Worth to minor league deal
Diamondbacks signed INF Danny Worth to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Worth is a .230/.293/.295 hitter in 292 career plate appearances at the major league level, but the 29-year-old can play all over the infield defensively and could get a look as a utilityman at some point next season in Arizona. Worth had an offer from one team this winter to try becoming a pitcher. Rotoworld.com

    • Twins checked in on free agent Jack Hannahan
The Twins have checked in on free agent Jack Hannahan, per Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN.

Advice: Wolfson said the club had interest in Hannahan when he was a free agent two years ago. Hannahan, 34, was limited to 50 plate appearances in 2014 due to shoulder surgery, and the Reds declined his $4 million option for next season. Wolfson guesses the team would be interested in giving Hannahan a minor league deal. Rotoworld.com

    • Frandsen wants to compete for starting job
Kevin Frandsen admitted Saturday that while he's seen as the utility man, he would like a chance to compete for the team's starting job at second base.

Advice: At the moment, Danny Espinosa is penciled in as the Nationals starter at second base, but with the inconsistency he has shown over the years Frandsen could have an opportunity to state his case with a strong showing this spring. The veteran infielder hit .259/.299/.309 over 236 plate appearances with the Nationals in 2014. Rotoworld.com

    • Profar set to begin next season in minors
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Thursday that Jurickson Profar is set to begin next season in the minors.

Advice: Profar, of course, missed the entire 2014 season due to a right shoulder injury. While the team is encouraged about his progress health-wise, they know he needs to make up for lost time and the plan is to give him regular playing time at Triple-A to start next season. "Probably not," Daniels said of the possibility of Profar making the Opening Day roster. "He needs to play. We’re not going to keep him as our utility guy." Rougned Odor is slated to open next season as the Rangers' second baseman. Rotoworld.com

    • Mark Reynolds inks one-year deal with Cards
Cardinals signed INF Mark Reynolds to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Advice: He'll get a chance to earn more through incentives. Reynolds isn't without his warts, as he hit just .196 last season and always piles up strikeouts by the truckload. However, he's also gone deep at least 20 times in seven consecutive seasons. He'll see the bulk of the at-bats at first base against left-handed pitching. Rotoworld.com

    • Cardinals to sign first baseman Mark Reynolds
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Cardinals have agreed to a deal with Mark Reynolds.

Advice: St. Louis wanted a right-handed compliment to left-handed first baseman Matt Adams, and Reynolds will apparently be that guy. Reynolds posted a dreadful .196/.287/.394 batting line in 2014 for the Brewers, but he's only 31 years old and has averaged 32 home runs for every 162 games over the course of his eight-year major league career. He can provide some pop off the bench. Rotoworld.com

    • Yankees sign Nick Noonan to minors deal
Yankees signed INF Nick Noonan to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: The former first-round pick spent the entire 2014 season in the minors, batting .234/.278/.307 with four homers and 26 RBI in 108 games between Double-A and Triple-A. Noonan is no longer a prospect and will merely serve as minor league depth for the Yankees. Rotoworld.com

    • Miguel Rojas traded to Marlins from Dodgers
Infielder Miguel Rojas was sent from the Marlins to the Dodgers in Wednesday's seven-player trade.

Advice: Rojas was the defensive replacement for Hanley Ramirez at shortstop last season, but he proved pretty hopeless with the bat, hitting .181/.242/.221 in 162 at-bats. As a pure defensive-minded utilityman, he's a tough guy to dedicate a roster spot to, though a nice player to have in Triple-A in case the starting shortstop goes down. Rotoworld.com

    • Angels acquire INF Rutledge from Rockies
Angels acquired infielder Josh Rutledge from the Rockies for RHP Jairo Diaz.

Advice: Moments after dealing Howie Kendrick, the Angels got themselves a new option at second base. Rutledge, 25, has hit .259/.308/.403 with 19 homers in 947 at-bats for the Rockies since debuting in 2012. He's best utilized as a utilityman, but the Angels could save some money and go with him as a starter if they'd prefer to add elsewhere. Rotoworld.com

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels have discussed Eduardo Nunez with the Twins.

    • Angels have interest in Josh Rutledge
Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports that the Angels are interested in Josh Rutledge.

Advice: He could fill a backup role in 2015 but could eventually start with Howie Kendrick only under contract for one more season and Erick Aybar under control through 2016. Rutledge has been inconsistent with the Rockies with a .259/.308/.403 batting line, but he hit in the minors and has flashed some pop and speed. Rotoworld.com

    • Cardinals interested in Weeks, Reynolds
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals are interested in Mark Reynolds and Rickie Weeks.

Advice: He also lists John Mayberry, Kyle Blanks, Gaby Sanchez and Corey Hart as potential targets, though he hasn't been able to confirm interest in them as he has with Weeks and Reynolds. The Cards are looking for some right-handed thump off the bench, as well as a potential platoon partner for Matt Adams at first base. Reynolds would seem to be a better fit than Weeks in that regard, as Weeks has never played first base and likely should be able to find more playing time elsewhere. Rotoworld.com

Miguel Rojas is expected to return to action this weekend in the Venezuelan Winter League.

    • Braves nearing deal with 2B Alberto Callaspo
Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM reports that the Braves are nearing a deal with Alberto Callaspo.

Advice: FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says it's a one-year, $3 million contract. Callaspo can serve as a stopgap for the Braves at second base until 20-year-old infield prospect Jose Peraza is ready for the majors. Callaspo struggled in 2014 for the A's, batting just .223/.290/.290 with four homers and 39 RBI in 451 plate appearances. He is doubtful to suddenly become fantasy-relevant in Atlanta. Rotoworld.com

    • Mets don't consider Profar an option for SS
Mike Puma of the New York Post says the Mets don't consider Jurickson Profar a trade option.

Advice: The Mets are looking to upgrade at shortstop this offseason, whether via trade or free agent signing, but it doesn't sound like they're going to be a match with the Rangers. The Mets are not interested in Elvis Andrus because of the money he is owed and Profar missed the entire 2014 season due to a right shoulder injury, so he's too much of a risk at this point.
