  • Mike Aviles goes 4-for-5, homers
Mike Aviles went 4-for-5 and homered against the White Sox in Thursday's win.

Advice: Aviles is batting a cool .323 with three homers in 65 at-bats while primarily being used against lefties. It'd be nice if he were better at shortstop and more of an option over Jose Ramirez there, but as a platoon partner for Lonnie Chisenhall at third base, he's getting the job done.

  • Hardy notches go-ahead RBI single in eighth
J.J. Hardy broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning with an RBI single.

Advice: Hardy hit the one-out single off of Danny Farquhar to score Chris Davis, helping the Orioles to push back the Mariners 5-4. He finished 1-for-4. In the 12 games he's played since being activated from the disabled list on May 7, Hardy is 9-for-46 with two homers, a double and four RBI. He's currently hitting .196/.229/.348. The numbers aren't particularly good, but we'll preach patience for the time being.

  • Arruebarrena suspended by Dodgers
Erisbel Arruebarrena has been placed on the suspended list by the Dodgers.

Advice: Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman confirmed that Arruebarrena has been suspended, but he declined to answer questions about specifics. However, it's believed to be disciplinary in nature. Arruebarrena, who originally signed a $25 million contract with the Dodgers, was outrighted off the 40-man roster in January and has yet to play a game at any level this season.

  • Crawford not in Giants' lineup on Thursday
Brandon Crawford is not in the Giants' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Dodgers.

Advice: He'll take a seat with the Dodgers throwing ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Joaquin Arias is at shortstop.

  • Jimmy Rollins not in Dodgers' lineup Thursday
Jimmy Rollins is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Giants.

Advice: It's a day of rest for the veteran shortstop, who's batting just .192/.274/.336 in 38 games this season. Enrique Hernandez will fill in at short and bat second Thursday against Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.

  • Flaherty (groin) expected to begin rehab soon
Ryan Flaherty (groin) is expected to begin playing in rehab games with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday or Monday.

Advice: Flaherty has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 12 because of a mild right groin strain. He should be ready to return when first eligible and will likely resume getting regular starts at second base for the Orioles, who will be without Jonathan Schoop (knee) until mid-July.

  • Iglesias not in Tigers' lineup on Thursday
Jose Iglesias is not in the Tigers' lineup Thursday.

Advice: It's just a day of rest for Iglesias, who has battled some groin issues. Andrew Romine is at shortstop as the Tigers kick off a four-game set with the Astros.

  • Crawford collects 3 hits, has 9 RBI in last 5
Brandon Crawford finished 3-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 4-0 win against the Dodgers.

Advice: Crawford has nine RBI over his past five games, though note that six came in one. Any way you slice it, it's been a sizzling start to what is starting to look like the early making of a breakout year. Crawford is slashing .298/.387/.511 and is on pace for 24 homers and 104 RBI.

  • Jose Ramirez reaches four times in win
Jose Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two walks and two steals in the Indians' 4-3 victory over the White Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Ramirez was hitting .185 with an ugly .237 OBP before reaching four times tonight. At least he is 8-for-9 stealing bases, because he never figures to hit very much.

  • Raul Mondesi blasts first homer of 2015
Royals shortstop prospect Raul Mondesi launched his first home run of the year Tuesday for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Advice: Mondesi struck out three times in the game but is still hitting .273 with a .409 slugging percentage. A defensive whiz with plus speed, anything Mondesi does at the plate is gravy. With Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar under contract for at least three more seasons, there's no rush for Mondesi to make it to the big leagues.

  • Carlos Correa hits first Triple-A home run
Astros shortstop Carlos Correa belted his first Triple-A homer Tuesday in a win for Fresno.

Advice: Correa hasn't stopped hitting since his promotion, batting .316 with a .500 slugging percentage over his first eight games with Fresno. He has two or more hits in four of his last five contests. With 16 steals and 36 RBI across two levels, Correa has been as good as any hitter in the minor leagues this season. The 20-year-old appears poised to make his big league debut in 2015.

  • Ramirez has RBI, stolen base in win over Sox
Jose Ramirez had an RBI double and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Ramirez came through with the run-scoring double in the fifth inning, proving to be the game-winning RBI. The stolen base was his sixth of the season in seven attempts. He's needed to contribute in other ways, as he's hitting a paltry .185/.237/.250 on the year.

  • Everth Cabrera (foot) could be back Friday
Everth Cabrera (foot) could be activated from the 15-day disabled list this Friday.

Advice: Cabrera has been out since May 7 because of a bone bruise in his left foot. He began a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk this past weekend. J.J. Hardy is back on the Orioles' active roster, so Cabrera will be a utility infielder when he returns.

  • Mondesi collects three hits, stolen base
Royals prospect SS Raul Adalberto Mondesi went 3-for-4 with a stolen base on Monday for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Advice: It was his third stolen base of the season, though he was also thrown out attempting to steal in the game. Mondesi appeared in Northwest Arkansas’ season opener on April 9, but an injury subsequently sidelined the 19-year-old shortstop for nearly five weeks, keeping him out of action until May 15. The switch-hitting Mondesi has gone 4-for-14 with two stolen bases since returning to the field, and he’s 5-for-17 overall. Viewed as one of the top shortstop prospects in the minors, Mondesi struggled mightily last season at High-A Wilmington, batting just .211/.256/.354 with a 25.9% strikeout rate. He’ll look to bounce back this season against more advanced competition in the Texas League.

  • Lindor extends hitting streak to ten games
Indians shortstop prospect Francisco Lindor stretched his hitting streak to 10 games Sunday with a three-hit performance for Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: He's hit .378 during the streak, raising his average from .235 to .280. This is Lindor's longest hitting streak since July 2012. The 21-year-old doesn't have power (one homer in 143 at-bats) but his contact rate is impressive and he's done a nice job on the basepaths (seven steals). Lindor is almost certain to make his big league debut this season.

  • Astros transfer Jed Lowrie to the 60-day DL
Astros transferred SS Jed Lowrie from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

An update is expected Monday night. Pedro Ciriaco and Alberto Callaspo will hold down the hot corner for Atlanta until Chris Johnson (hand) returns.

  • Carlos Correa stays hot for Triple-A Fresno
Astros shortstop prospect Carlos Correa smacked three hits Saturday in a win for Triple-A Fresno.

Advice: It was Correa's first three-hit game in Triple-A. The 20-year-old is hitting .379 across two minor league levels this season. Correa, proud owner of a nine-game hitting streak, isn't just living up to his massive hype—he's exceeding it. The Astros are already making a playoff push years ahead of schedule. If Correa's minor league success translates to the big leagues, Houston could become a powerhouse in the AL West.

  • Crawford hits grand slam and racks up 6 RBI
Brandon Crawford went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and six RBI in Saturday's 11-2 demolition of the Reds.

Advice: Crawford launched his big slam off of Mike Leake in fifth inning. He also had an RBI single and an RBI double in the contest, missing just a run-scoring triple to hit for the vaunted RBI cycle. With the huge game, Crawford now has six home runs and 24 RBI on the season. He's been extremely productive for his position and is currently hitting .277/.372/.504.

  • Aviles (bereavement) expected back Monday
The Indians are expected to activate Mike Aviles (bereavement) from the disabled list on Monday.

Advice: He left the team while his daughter received treatment for leukemia. Aviles has started at four positions this year including left field, center field, shortstop and third base. The 34-year-old brings some versatility to the table but isn't much of a fantasy contributor.

  • Jimmy Rollins goes 4-for-5, homers
Jimmy Rollins led the Dodgers past the Rockies by going 4-for-5 with a homer and a double on Friday.

Advice: Even after a four-hit game, Rollins is still batting just .198. Still, the fantasy upside hasn't gone anywhere, and he remains a fine option as a mixed-league shortstop while hitting high in one of the game's best lineups.

  • Hardy homers in loss to Angels
J.J. Hardy went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Angels.

Advice: The homer was Hardy's second of the season. He hit it in the eighth inning off of Jered Weaver to break up Weaver's shutout, though the Orioles were unable to score another run and eventually fell 3-1. Hardy was activated from the disabled list on May 7 and has six hits (one double, two homers) in 28 at-bats since his return.
