• Struggles against Red Sox
Woodford (0-2) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings to take the loss Thursday versus the Red Sox.

Advice: Woodford has failed to pitch past the fifth inning in both of his starts for the White Sox so far. The Red Sox jumped on him right away Thursday, with Jarren Duran leading off the game with a solo home run. Enmanuel Valdez added a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Woodford doesn't have a great track record as a starter in the majors, but he's likely to remain in the rotation for another turn, as Mike Clevinger (elbow) will require a rehab start before returning. Woodford is lined up for a road start in Seattle next week if the White Sox give him another outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:30 pm

  • Snags save Thursday
Kinley allowed a hit and struck out one batter in one-third of an inning to earn the save in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Jalen Beeks entered the game in the eighth inning and got five outs, but Kinley was the one to get the last out for the save. This was Kinley's fourth scoreless outing in his last eight -- he's given up too many runs to be reliable on a regular basis, though he hasn't taken a blown save yet in 2024. The right-hander is at three saves and four holds with an 8.03 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 27:14 K:BB over 24.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:16 pm
  • Kinley records third save Thursday
Tyler Kinley picked up the save against the Cardinals on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Kinley’s third of the season. This was a brutal beat for Jalen Beeks managers. Beeks blew the save Wednesday night, but was able to get through the eighth inning and record the first two outs of the ninth inning before Kinley came in and got the save. The Rockies closer situation isn’t for the weak-hearted with Beeks, Kinley and Justin Lawrence all in the mix. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:00 pm
  • Jake Woodford hit hard in loss to Red Sox
Jake Woodford was obliterated for seven runs over four innings on Thursday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: The Red Sox had no trouble solving Woodford in this one as he surrender a whopping 10 hits, including a leadoff blast to Jarren Duran and a three-run homer to Enmanuel Valdez. He struck out three and also issued three walks. The White Sox don’t have a ton of alternatives to plug into their starting rotation at the moment, but it’s difficult to imagine Woodford getting another turn here. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:52 pm

  • Lopez allows two in no-decision Thursday
Reynoldo Lopez allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision in the Braves’ 5-2 victory over the Nationals on Thursday.

Advice: Lopez gave up six hits, walked one and struck out seven. CJ Abrams and Lane Thomas hit back-to-back home runs off him in the sixth inning. The home runs Lopez allowed were his third and fourth of the season (0.57 HR/9). Only Ranger Suarez and Luis Gil have a lower ERA than Lopez’ 1.85 (min. 50 innings), though his xFIP is significantly higher at 3.71. He has eight quality starts but he’s only won three of his 11 starts this year. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Orioles on the road next week.

  • Set to start Friday
Irvin will start Friday's game against the Rays, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Irvin will start on regular rest, so it's not particularly notable that he will take the ball for Baltimore on Friday. However, that also moves Kyle Bradish back at least one more game, giving him multiple extra days of rest after Cade Povich took Bradish's original turn Thursday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:54 pm

  • Cole Irvin starting on Friday against Rays
Cole Irvin will start Friday’s series opener against the Rays.

Advice: Irvin will take the ball in place of Kyle Bradish, who is getting a couple extra days of rest as the Orioles manage his workload after dealing with an offseason elbow issue. The 30-year-old lefty holds a 2.84 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 37/12 K/BB ratio across 57 innings (11 appearances, nine starts) this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:45 pm

  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Diamondbacks optioned Hughes to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Advice: Hughes has given up seven earned runs in 3.2 innings over his last two big-league outings, giving him a 10.13 ERA and 2.25 WHIP on the year. In an effort to get back on track, he'll head back to Reno, where he owns a 1.83 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through 19.2 frames. Joe Jacques was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. • D-backs recall lefty Joe Jacques on Thursday
Diamondbacks recalled LHP Joe Jacques from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Jacques rejoins Arizona’s bullpen ahead of Thursday’s series opener against the Padres with fellow southpaw Blake Walston hitting the injured list with elbow inflammation. The 29-year-old lefty made one relief appearance earlier this season for the Diamondbacks after being claimed off waivers from the Red Sox. He figures to stick around for an extended period.
