    • Jeremy Peña getting a night off on Friday
Jeremy Peña is not in the Astros’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Twins.

Advice: It’s nothing more than a routine night off for the 26-year-old shortstop. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place and will bat seventh for the Astros against Pablo Lopez and the Twins on Friday evening in Houston. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:14 pm

    • Getting first day off
Pena is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Minnesota, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Pena had started each of Houston's 57 games this season but will receive his first day off Friday amid a 1-for-16 slump. Mauricio Dubon will play shortstop and bat seventh Friday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:14 pm

    • Mets option Christian Scott to Triple-A on Friday
Mets option RHP Christian Scott to Triple-A Syracuse.

Advice: Scott complied a strong 3.90 ERA and 25/6 K/BB ratio across five starts for New York. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect is expected to return to the big leagues soon, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Scott’s time in the minors coincides with the Mets having extra days off after their series in London and allows the club to manage his innings total. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:44 am

    • Heading to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Scott to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old top prospect has pitched well in his first five big-league starts with a 3.90 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB across 27.2 innings, but with the Mets having three scheduled off days coming up surrounding their two-game series against the Phillies in London next weekend, they'll use the opportunity to limit Scott's innings in his third professional campaign. The 24-year-old right-hander should rejoin the big-league rotation later in the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:40 am

    • Smacks 10th homer
Paredes went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Thursday against the Athletics.

Advice: Paredes tallied his 10th homer of the season and third in May, and he's hitting .301 with 15 RBI and 10 runs scored across 24 contests on the month. Paredes remains locked into either the third or fourth spot in the Rays' order, giving him plenty of opportunities to rack up counting stats. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:30 am

    • Tosses five frames in no-decision
Scott allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against Arizona on Thursday.

Advice: Scott gave up a pair of third-inning runs but otherwise kept the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard. He got through only five frames, though, as he was pulled after throwing 91 pitches. The rookie right-hander continues to hold his own in the majors, as he's given up three or fewer earned runs in four of his five starts thus far. Collectively, he's posted a 3.90 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB through 27.2 innings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:13 pm

    • Christian Scott allows pair over five frames
Christian Scott went five innings and allowed two runs with four strikeouts in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Advice: Scott gave up four hits while issuing one walk. The two runs came on a double that scored a pair off the bat of Ketel Marte, and outside of that it was a strong outing for the 24-year-old rookie. Scott has held his own in his rookie campaign with a 3.90 ERA and 21/5 K/BB over 27 2/3 innings. He gets another chance to impress next week with a scheduled tilt against the Nationals. • Nearing rehab outing
Cole (elbow) could make his first rehab start Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Cole threw live batting practice Thursday, and his next step will likely be a lengthy rehab assignment. It's unclear which affiliate he'll begin the assignment with, though it will be a significant step toward his return regardless of exactly where it occurs. Rotowire.com Thursday, 6:04 pm

    • Set to start Saturday
Poteet (finger) will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Saturday's game against the Giants, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Poteet has been dealing with a blister and is currently on the Triple-A club's 7-day injured list, but he'll be healthy and ready to join the big club to make a start in place of Clarke Schmidt (lat). Poteet threw four innings in his last outing May 19 and has worked in a regular starting role with Scranton/Wilkes Barre this season, so he should be able to handle a normal workload. The Yankees haven't formally announced their plans beyond Saturday, but Poteet should have the chance to stick in the rotation until Gerrit Cole (elbow) is back from the 60-day injured list.
