    • Looks set for 2024 debut this week
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Sunday that Scherzer (back/thumb) will return from the 60-day injured list during the upcoming week, so long as he experiences no issues bouncing back from his rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock this past Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: The Rangers will likely officially sign off on Scherzer making his 2024 debut once he throws a bullpen session in front of the coaching and training staffs early in the week, but all signs point to the right-hander being ready to slot back into the rotation with a limited workload restriction, if he has one at all. In his latest rehab outing with Round Rock on Saturday, Scherzer struck out eight while throwing 79 pitches over 4.2 innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks. Since he had been pitching on five days' rest during his time with Round Rock, Scherzer appears likely to start for the Rangers either Friday or Saturday versus the Royals. • Set for MRI on Monday
Carroll (side) will undergo an MRI in Phoenix on Monday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Advice: Carroll left Sunday's 12-5 win over the White Sox in the seventh inning with left side discomfort and he will now require some additional imaging. The Diamondbacks will begin a three-game series on the road against the Nationals on Tuesday and with Carroll staying in Arizona for the MRI on Monday, it's possible that he's forced to miss at least one contest. In his absence, Randal Grichuk would stand to see an increased role in the outfield. Rotowire.com 43 minutes ago

    • Corbin Carroll (side) heading for MRI exam
Corbin Carroll will remain in Arizona to get an MRI exam after leaving Sunday’s game with rib cage discomfort.

Advice: The 23-year-old outfielder sustained the injury while making a throw from the outfield during Sunday’s game. While the exact nature and severity of the injury are not yet known, the fact that he’s heading for an MRI exam isn’t encouraging. If it’s an oblique issue, a stint on the injured list seems like a near certainty. Fantasy managers should be sure to have a contingency plan in place for next week. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago

    • Leaves Sunday in seventh inning
Carroll left Sunday in the seventh inning against the White Sox with an apparent left side injury, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Piecoro observed Carroll reacting after a throw in the top of the inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. replaced Carroll in the game, with Jake McCarthy moving from left field to center field to replace Carroll. Rotowire.com Today, 4:10 pm

    • Brady Singer tagged for three homers in loss
Brady Singer allowed three runs, all of them coming on solo homers, over six innings Sunday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: At least Singer got beaten by the best, giving up two homers to Shohei Ohtani and one to Freddie Freeman. Singer has opened June by surrendering 13 runs — 11 earned — in 15 1/3 innings. He’s a solid enough fantasy option with the Royals playing well, but he might prove droppable later this season. Rotoworld Today, 3:46 pm
    • Max Scherzer expected to join Rangers’ rotation
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Sunday that as long as Max Scherzer bounces back alright following his minor league rehab start on Saturday, that he’ll join the Rangers’ rotation and make his 2024 regular season debut during the upcoming week.

Advice: Scherzer threw 79 pitches (55 strikes) over 4 2/3 innings in his final minor league tune-up at Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday — giving up three runs on four hits and a pair of walks while punching out eight batters. He should slot into the Rangers’ rotation at some point during their weekend series against the Royals. Rotoworld Today, 2:49 pm

    • Ryan Helsley nabs league-leading 24th save
Ryan Helsley closed out the Cubs on Sunday. He struck out one, walked two, and stranded both runners on base.

Advice: Helsely got into some trouble in the ninth inning and was bailed out by Brendan Donovan who made a catch crashing into the ivy at Wrigley Field to end the game. Helsley is fully back to being one of the best closers in baseball after an injury-marred 2023 season. Rotoworld Today, 1:06 pm

    • Remains out Sunday
Smith (undisclosed) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Smith is on the bench for a third straight game due to an injury that manager Bruce Bochy has termed as "general tightness." Ezequiel Duran will get a second consecutive start at third base in place of the banged-up Smith. Rotowire.com Today, 12:59 pm

    • Josh Smith (tightness) remains out Sunday vs. M’s
Josh Smith (tightness) remains out of the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Mariners.

Advice: Smith did appear as a pinch-hitter against the Mariners in the Rangers’ loss to Seattle on Saturday, but he’ll begin Sunday’s game on the bench with Ezequiel Duran getting the start at third base. Smith should still be considered day-to-day. Rotoworld Today, 10:58 am
