      Advice: The Houston designated hitter provided two insurance runs by launching a 397-foot homer off Zach Pop in the ninth inning to extend the Astros' lead to 3-0. Alvarez has opened July nicely on the tails of a scorching June in which he hit .349 (30-for-86) with seven homers, 19 RBI and 20 runs scored.       Josh Hader picked up his 13th save despite giving up a homer in the ninth Monday against the Blue Jays.

      Advice: The Houston southpaw entered the ninth with a three-run lead and fired 13 pitches to lock up his 178th career save. However, Hader also allowed his sixth homer of the year -- a 404-foot solo shot to Ernie Clement -- raising his 2024 home-run rate to 1.4 HR/9.       Advice: Smith got the start at shortstop with Corey Seager (wrist) day-to-day. Seager was hit by a pitch during Saturday's game and, although X-rays came back negative, took a seat for the series finale against the Orioles. The Rangers are off Monday, giving Seager another 24 hours of healing, before a three-game set against the Padres. He found himself in some immediate trouble in the fifth after allowing a leadoff triple and wound up surrendering two runs in the inning following a pair of base knocks and a fielding error. Sunday was Ryan's second double-digit strikeout performance this season and his second straight outing without walking a batter. He's given up two runs or less in four of his last five starts, though that's only amounted to one win.       Advice: Arozarena went deep in the seventh inning to record his 11th homer of the season and third of June. The performance wrapped up a solid month, as he hit .291 with nine RBI, 10 runs scored and three stolen bases in 25 games.       Advice: Helsley efficiently rolled through the Reds' 2-3-4 hitters with just 10 pitches. He extended his MLB save lead and became the first pitcher in the 2024 season to reach 30 saves. He's converted those 30 saves consecutively after blowing his first opportunity of the year March 30. Helsley is sporting a 2.61 ERA with a 46:16 K:BB through 38 innings.
