    • Surrenders four runs in defeat
      Bassitt (7-7) took the loss against Houston on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out three batters over five innings.

      Advice: Bassitt got off to a terrible start in allowing six of the first seven batters he faced to reach base, resulting in three Astros runs. The veteran hurler bounced back to give up just one more run over the remainder of his five frames, but the first-inning damage was enough to send him to his seventh loss of the season. Bassitt had been rolling coming into Thursday, posting a 1.41 ERA across his previous five starts, and the four runs he yielded against Houston were his most since he gave up seven runs against the Dodgers on April 26. Bassitt's overall numbers this season have been pretty much in line with what fantasy managers have come to expect from him -- he has a 3.43 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 94:41 K:BB across 102.1 frames.       Hader earned a save against the Blue Jays on Thursday, allowing one hit in one scoreless inning.

      Advice: Hader entered in the ninth inning with Houston holding a two-run lead and immediately allowed a single to bring the tying run to the plate. However, he then induced a double play -- Toronto's fifth double play of the contest -- and needed just nine pitches overall to nail down his 14th save. Despite the successful outing, Hader snapped an eight-game streak of appearances with at least one punchout. He had posted a 14:1 K:BB across eight frames during that stretch.       Scherzer (1-2) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over 6.1 innings against the Padres. he struck out three.

      Advice: Scherzer tossed his first quality start of the season, pitching into the seventh while increasing his pitch count to 90 after having tossed 57 and 77 over his first two starts. While the effectiveness has been there through three starts, as evidenced by a 2.70 ERA and 0.84 WHIP, he's not received much run support, with the Rangers supplying a total of two runs over his last two outings, with each resulting in a loss. One trend to keep an eye on moving forward is Scherzer's strikeout numbers as he's tallied only 11 thus far through 16.2 innings. The last time Scherzer recorded fewer than a strikeout per innings was in 2011, his fourth season in the league.       Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two strikeouts in Thursday's 3-2 over the Pirates.

      Advice: Goldschmidt had two hits and a steal in Wednesday's contest, and with another swipe Thursday, it became the 13th time in his career he's recorded stolen bases in back-to-back games. The 2022 NL MVP got off to a rough start this season with two home runs and .530 OPS through 37 games, but he's turned it around nicely since the middle of May. The right-hander had allowed just three total earned runs over his last two starts, so it goes without saying this outing — while not horrific — didn’t keep that good run going.
