    • Catching in AZL on Saturday
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Moreno (thumb) will catch five innings in an Arizona Complex League game Saturday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Moreno was placed on the injured list June 22 due to a sprained left thumb, but Lovullo said earlier in the week that he expects the catcher to return after the minimum 10 days. Barring any setbacks this weekend, Moreno will be eligible to return Tuesday for the beginning of the Diamondbacks' road series against the Dodgers. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago

    • Thairo Estrada absent from Giants lineup on Friday
Thairo Estrada is not in the Giants’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Dodgers.

Advice: It looks to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 28-year-old second baseman. Brett Wisely will start in his place and will bat eighth against Landon Knack and the Dodgers on Friday evening in San Francisco. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

    • Early exit Friday
Winker was removed from Friday's game against the Rays with what appears to be a right ankle injury, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Winker sustained the injury running into the wall while tracking down a flyball in the first inning. Though he was able to walk off under his own power, he sported a noticeable limp. Ildemaro Vargas replaced Winker in left field. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Eduardo Rodriguez heading for follow-up MRI
Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) will undergo another follow-up MRI exam on July 6.

Advice: If all goes well with that exam, it sounds like the 31-year-old southpaw will finally be cleared to resume throwing off of a mound. Once that’s done, he’ll need several sessions off the mound before facing live hitters and then several minor league rehab starts before he’s ready to join the Diamondbacks’ rotation. It seems optimistic to expect him back anytime before the beginning of August. Rotoworld 14 minutes ago

    • MRI set for July 6
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Rodriguez (shoulder) is scheduled for a follow-up MRI on July 6, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Rodriguez extended his throwing program out to 105 feet earlier in June, and Lovullo noted that the southpaw could start throwing off the mound depending on the results of the MRI. Rodriguez has been out all season after straining his left shoulder in spring training, and his initial throwing program was shut down in April due to shoulder tightness. • Still not throwing
Williams (elbow) has yet to start a throwing program, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Williams was placed on the 15-day IL on June 4 with a right flexor strain but remains shut down from throwing. It's safe to assume Williams won't be able to return until after the All-Star break. DJ Herz should continue to make starts in place of Williams. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago
    • Sitting Friday
Estrada isn't in the Giants' lineup for Friday's game versus the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Estrada will take a seat Friday after going 2-for-14 with four strikeouts during the Giants' previous series against the Cubs. Brett Wisely will shift to second base while Nick Ahmed gets the nod to start at shortstop, batting ninth. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

    • Batting second in return
Wade (hamstring) is playing first base and batting second Friday against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Wade will make his return from a Grade 2 hamstring strain he sustained in late May on Friday. The first baseman played three rehab games and went 1-for-7 with three runs scored, four walks and two strikeouts. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago
    • Alex Cobb (shoulder) to make rehab start on Sunday
Alex Cobb (shoulder) will make his first minor league rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

Advice: The 36-year-old hurler has missed the entire season thus far while recovering from a shoulder injury. He’s going to need several minor league rehab starts to build back up before he’s an option to join the Giants’ rotation, but it’s nice to see him finally taking strides in that direction.
