    • Orioles recalled LHP Zach Britton from Triple-A Norfolk.
Advice: Britton is starting for the Orioles on Tuesday night against the Tigers. He has a promising 3.28 ERA in 11 starts this season at the Triple-A level but is a risky fantasy play in his matchup Tuesday versus Detroit.

    • Zach Britton will be called up from Triple-A Norfolk to start Tuesday against the Tigers.
Advice: He'll make the start in place of Jason Hammel, who is just getting his strength back following a stomach bug. Britton made one start for the Orioles this season and owns a 3.28 ERA in 11 starts with Triple-A Norfolk. He's a shaky option in mixed leagues against the Tigers.

    • Zach Britton could start on Monday against the Tigers in place of Jason Hammel (illness).
Advice: Hammel is dealing with a stomach bug and is unlikely to be ready. The Orioles scratched Britton from his scheduled start Sunday, indicating that he'll likely be their choice to fill in if need be. Britton holds a 3.28 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 11 start for Norfolk this season. He allowed six runs over six innings in his lone start for the O's.

    • Jose Reyes (ankle) went 2-for-3 with two singles and two runs scored Monday in his first rehab games with High-A Dunedin.
Advice: Reyes, who was playing his first game since his severe ankle sprain on April 12, also played five innings at shortstop. Barring any setbacks, the speedy shortstop could rejoin the suddenly red-hot Blue Jays within the next 10 days.

    • Jose Reyes (ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with High-A Dunedin.
Advice: Reyes is slated to 4-5 innings in his first game back. He will finish his rehab stint against more advanced competition, but should return from the disabled list by the end of the month if he can avoid setbacks. The speedy shortstop has been sidelined since April 12 with a severely sprained left ankle.

    • Jose Reyes (ankle) played two innings in a simulated game Friday.
Advice: Reyes also tested his ankle by doing some sliding practice after the game. He could begin a minor league rehab assignment Monday with High-A Dunedin, which would set him up for a return later this month.

    • Nelson Cruz homered twice, doubled and knocked in four runs as the Rangers beat the A's 8-7 on Monday.
Advice: Cruz homered off Dan Straily in the fourth and Jesse Chavez in the fifth, giving him 18 bombs for the year. Only Chris Davis (24) and Miguel Cabrera (19) have more in the AL. If Cruz stays healthy, his career high of 33 homers is probably going down.

    • John Buck hit his first homer since May 24 and just his second since May 3 in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Braves.
Advice: The solo homer gave the former NL RBI leader his first RBI of June. He's hitting .222 in 45 at-bats this month.

    • John Buck went 2-for-4 with a double against the Cardinals on Thursday.
Advice: In so doing he tallied his first extra-base hit since June 2. Although Buck is hitting just .223, he's ninth in the NL with 11 homers. He's gone deep just once since May 3, however.

    • Kevin Youkilis has a herniated disc in his back and will undergo surgery to repair it on Thursday.
Advice: He is expected to need about 10-12 weeks of rest and rehab, which puts his season in jeopardy. It's another brutal blow to the Yankees, who have been without third baseman Alex Rodriguez (hip) all year. Youkilis was batting .219/.305/.343 with two home runs and eight RBI in 28 games as A-Rod's fill-in at the hot corner.

    • Yankees placed 3B Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list with a lumbar spine sprain.
Advice: No word yet on how long he may be sidelined, but since it's a recurring issue, it may be longer than 15 days. It's the same ailment that landed Youkilis on the disabled list at the end of April. He managed to hit just.146/.239/.220 with one RBI and 13 strikeouts in 41 at-bats after returning from the disabled list on May 31.

    • Rays recalled RHP Jake Odorizzi from Triple-A Durham.
Advice: Odorizzi will be the 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox and is slated to start the nightcap. The 23-year-old has allowed 11 runs in 12 1/3 innings in two starts and one relief appearance with the Rays this season and will likely be sent back down to the minors after Tuesday's start. He's someone to keep an eye on for the future.

    • Jake Odorizzi will start the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Advice: The Rays will officially promote Odorizzi on Tuesday night to be their 26th man. The talented young right-hander has a bright future but probably isn't worth messing with for one random outing at Fenway Park. Chris Archer will start the first half of the doubleheader.

    • Lucas Duda went 4-for-4 with a double in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Braves.
Advice: Making his first start at first base this season, Duda raised his average 15 points (from .226 to .241). Mets manager Terry Collins has resisted trying Duda at first base in anticipation of an eventual Ike Davis return, but there's no doubt that New York is a better team with Duda at first and Daniel Murphy at second. Duda's a terrible defender, but he's posted a nice .241/.348/.454 slash line through 216 at-bats.
      (Rotoworld.com)
  • Mon, Jun 17
    • Lucas Duda will start at first base for the first time this season in Monday's game against the Braves.
Advice: Meanwhile, Daniel Murphy has moved back over to second base while Jordany Valdespin is on the bench. Mets manager Terry Collins has resisted using Duda at first base because they anticipate Ike Davis returning at some point, but there's no question that they are a much better defensive team with Duda at first base as opposed to left field.

    • Dillon Gee was slapped with a loss despite pitching a gem Monday, allowing two runs over 8 1/3 innings to the Braves.
Advice: He struck out six and walked one. Gee was absolutely cruising through eight innings and entered the ninth in Atlanta with a 1-0 lead. He surrendered a leadoff single to Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman ended the game with a 365-foot blast to right field. Gee revealed after his last start that he's dealt with flexor tendonitis all season, but he appeared just fine on Monday. He's 5-7 with a 4.56 ERA.

    • Pedro Ciriaco went 3-for-6 with a stolen base against the Giants on Monday.
Advice: Acquired from the Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later on Friday, Ciriaco is now 3-for-9 over three games for the Friars. Ciriaco doesn't figure to play or hit enough to become fantasy relevant, but he's usable in deeper NL-only formats at the moment due to Jedd Gyorko's injury.

    • Padres acquired INF Pedro Ciriaco from the Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later.

    • Matt Harvey took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up three runs in seven-plus innings Tuesday in a victory over the Braves.
Advice: Jason Heyward's infield single ended the no-hit bid; Harvey actually had a play on him, but he didn't think he could make the tag after grabbing the ball towards the first base line and decided to flip to first, which happened to be vacant. Harvey got through that inning scoreless anyway, but the eighth was a different story. He loaded the bases with no outs and then got pulled. After he left, all three runners came around to score. The Braves' official scorer made an egregious call on what should have been ruled an error on David Wright, or he would have only allowed one earned run. It took some of the shine of a dominant effort in which Harvey struck out 13. Still, he did pick up his first win since May 17 and his second since April 19.

    • Dan Straily was tagged for six runs and two homers in 4 2/3 innings by the Rangers on Monday.
Advice: Straily had turned in a nice run of outings coming into this one -- he went six straight starts without allowing a homer -- so an odd night in Arlington isn't such a bad sign. He'll have a friendlier matchup in Seattle next time out.

    • Edinson Volquez allowed four runs on six hits and a walk over five innings in his start Monday against the Giants.
Advice: Volquez (5-5, 5.84 ERA) struck out six in the no-decision. The right-hander occasionally shows his talent in mixed-league worthy performances, such as his last start against the Braves (one run over seven innings). Far too often, however, he turns in frustrating performances such as Monday's or gets outright shelled. He's a fringy NL-only pitcher.

    • Brandon Barnes went 3-for-5 with a couple of steals against the White Sox on Monday.
Advice: Justin Maxwell is expected back in Houston's lineup on Tuesday, but Barnes should remain the team's center fielder, with Maxwell primarily playing right. That doesn't give him much fantasy value -- he's been struggling offensively since his nice April -- but he's an acceptable fifth outfielder in AL-only leagues.

    • Martin Prado went 1-for-4 Monday against the Marlins.
Advice: Owners hoping for Prado to shake his season-long slump as the weather began heating up have been disappointed, as June has been the veteran's worst at the plate thus far. Prado hasn't hit a homer since late-April and has logged an RBI in just two games this month. He's batting an anemic .244/.296/.335 in his first season in Arizona.

Advice: Jennings has primarily batted sixth recently, but that spot in the order is now occupied by Wil Myers. The 26-year-old is batting .299/.351/.522 over his last 19 games, so he's worthy of being moved up in the order.

    • Pirates re-signed RHP Jose Contreras to a minor league contract.
Advice: Contreras was released by the Pirates last week, but it didn't take the two sides very long to hammer out a new agreement. The veteran right-hander will report to Triple-A Indianapolis and could be an option for the major league bullpen again soon.

Advice: Mujica gave up a homer to Marlon Byrd on Thursday and another to Darwin Barney tonight, but he's yet to allow one in a one-run game. All four homers he's given up this year have been solo shots. It helps a lot that he hasn't walked a batter since April 3.

    • Giancarlo Stanton swatted a pair of home runs and collected all of Miami's RBI in Monday's 3-2 victory against Arizona.
Advice: Stanton's two-run job off Patrick Corbin in the seventh tied the game at two and his homer off Heath Bell in the ninth turned out to be the decisive run. Stanton has hit safely in all seven games since coming off the disabled list and has collected two or more RBI in four of those contests. He's one of the hottest hitters in the game right now.
