• Athletics outright Aaron Brooks to Triple-A
Athletics sent RHP Aaron Brooks outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Brooks passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain with Oakland moving forward as extra pitching depth. The 34-year-old journeyman righty has made five appearances (four starts) this season for the Athletics. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:45 pm
  • Alex Cobb will throw a bullpen on Friday
According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Shayna Rubin, Alex Cobb (shoulder) will throw a bullpen on Friday.

Advice: Cobb has been out all season with a shoulder injury. He had been nearing a return before pausing his throwing program in the middle of May. He’s now ramping back up again and, if all goes well on Friday, he will have a rehab assignment with Triple-A San Jose after.

  • Rehab assignment coming
Cobb (hip/shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Friday and could begin a rehab assignment with Single-A San Jose afterward if everything goes smoothly, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Cobb has been trending in the right direction since being shut down in May due to soreness in his right (throwing) shoulder. However, he still needs to build back up to a starter's workload after spending all season on the injured list, so he likely won't return to the Giants' rotation until after the All-Star break. • Cleared to start Friday
Perez (groin) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday in Atlanta, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: The Pirates will push back Jared Jones' next turn through the rotation in order to make room for Perez, whose last outing before he landed on the IL in late May coincidentally came against Atlanta. Perez needed just one rehab start to convince the Pirates he was ready to rejoin the big club, as he allowed two runs (one earned) over five innings while tossing 65 pitches for Triple-A Indianapolis last weekend. Perez shouldn't face any major restrictions with his workload Friday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:24 am

  • Blue Jays and Red Sox suspended due to rain
Wednesday’s game between the Blue Jays and Red Sox in Boston was suspended due to rain.

Advice: There hadn’t been any rain in the forecast, but a storm popped up early in the second inning and washed out any chances of the two sides getting this game in. The game will resume on August 26 in the top half of the second inning, with the Blue Jays having a runner at first base with one out. Unfortunately for this week, both Kutter Crawford and Yariel Rodriguez won’t be able to deliver anything for fantasy managers. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:00 pm
  • Reds sending Connor Phillips to Arizona for reset
Reds RHP prospect Connor Phillips has been reassigned to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: It’s been an extremely tough start to the year for Phillips, who was a top-100 prospect as recently as last year. The 23-year-old righty, who made five starts last year for Cincinnati, has struggled to a disastrous 10.11 ERA, 2.26 WHIP and 53/50 K/BB ratio across 57 innings (14 starts) this year for Triple-A Louisville. The complete erosion of his command is startling and he’s going to head to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League to focus on building back up from scratch. Rotoworld Tuesday, 5:16 pm
  • On cusp of rehab assignment
Manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Garcia (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League his weekend, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 27-year-old threw a 32-pitch live bullpen session over the weekend and is just about ready for game action. Garcia will likely need to throw another bullpen session before being cleared for games, at which point he'll jump into a lengthy rehab assignment as he finishes up his recovery from May 2023 Tommy John surgery. • Luis Garcia (elbow) ready for rehab assignment
Luis Garcia (elbow) will make a minor league rehab start this weekend in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Advice: Astros manager Joe Espada divulged to reporters that Garcia is ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment as he continues to work his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old righty is going to need at least a couple weeks to build up before he’s ready to make his season debut. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until some point after next month’s All-Star break. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:15 pm

  • Cast off 40-man roster
The Athletics designated Brooks for assignment Tuesday.

Advice: Just two days after having his contract selected by the Athletics, Brooks will now be pushed off the 40-man roster for the second time this month. He allowed one earned run in five innings during Monday's loss to the Angels, though he still holds a 5.06 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in the majors. He'll most likely clear waivers and remain with the organization at Triple-A Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Jack O'Loughlin will come up from the minors to fill the open spot in Oakland's bullpen.
