    • Lynn tosses six scoreless, gets win against Reds
Lance Lynn threw six shutout innings and got the win in the Cardinals’ 2-0 victory over the Reds on Sunday.

Advice: Lynn gave up two hits, walked one and struck out six. He’s won consecutive starts for the first time this year. Lynn was excellent in shutting down the Reds and now has a 3.59 ERA on the season. The 37-year-old right-hander is set to face the Nationals on the road next weekend.

    • Rockies activate Elias Diaz (calf) off 10-day IL
Rockies activated C Elias Diaz off the 10-day injured list.

Advice: Diaz missed two weeks while dealing with a left calf strain. The backstop is in the starting lineup Sunday as the designated hitter, and he should be able to move behind the plate in the coming days. With Diaz on the IL, the Rockies designated infielder Elehuris Montero for assignment to make room. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:23 am

    • Opening Sunday's game
Bivins will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The right-hander has made five appearances since he received his first call-up to the majors in mid-June, and he'll make his first big-league start Sunday versus Los Angeles. Bivens last pitched Thursday versus the Cubs and covered one inning, and he's topped out at 49 pitches since joining the Giants. He should be able to provide some length but likely won't handle a full starter's workload. Slusser suggests that Landen Roupp -- whom the Giants called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday -- will likely work multiple innings in relief behind Bivens. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:09 am
    • Activated, serving as DH on Sunday
The Rockies reinstated Diaz (calf) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll serve as the Rockies' designated hitter and will bat fifth in Sunday's series finale versus the White Sox, according to Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette.

Advice: Colorado designated infielder Elehuris Montero for assignment to clear room on the active roster for Diaz, who returns to action after missing just under three weeks with a left calf strain. Though he'll operate as the Rockies' DH in his first game back, Diaz should soon settle back into primary duties at catcher, leaving fewer opportunities to go around for Jacob Stallings and Hunter Goodman. • Three hits, RBI in loss
Chapman went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Chapman doubled in his first at-bat before then getting caught trying to steal second. He then drove home Heliot Ramos with an infield single in the following frame before eventually going on to reach a total of four times in the contest. It marked Chapman's fourth three-hit performance this season and his first since May 18 against the Rockies. The third baseman has also hit safely in six straight games, posting two homers, six RBI and six runs scored over that stretch. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:38 am
    • Set to start bullpen game
Dubin will start Sunday against the Mets in what's expected to be a bullpen day for the Astros, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Dubin hasn't covered more than three innings in any of his appearances in the majors and minors this season, so that likely represents the upper bound of his workload as he takes the hill for what will be his second MLB career start. The Astros don't have an obvious candidate to work in bulk relief behind Dubin, but the team could call up a pitcher from Triple-A Sugar Land ahead of Sunday's contest to provide the bullpen with another fresh arm. • Drawing closer to return
Diaz (calf) ran on the field Friday and Saturday and has made good progress in his recovery, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Manager Bud Black seemed to offer a more positive outlook on Diaz's recovery than in recent days, though Black still declined to offer a timetable for Diaz's return. Positively, the manager suggested that Diaz will not need a rehab assignment before being activated from the injured list. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:44 am

    • Homer, steal in win
Chapman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a stolen base in Friday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Chapman's power has come back, as he has three extra-base hits -- including two homers -- over his last five games. The third baseman gave the Giants their first lead Friday with his sixth-inning blast. For the season, he's up to 10 homers, 35 RBI, 53 runs scored and seven steals while posting a .235/.316/.399 slash line over 80 contests. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:37 pm
    • Matt Chapman homers, steals base in victory
Matt Chapman stole a base and hit a two-run homer in a win for the Giants on Friday over the Dodgers.

Advice: Chapman hit a two-run homer off Daniel Hudson for his 10th homer of the season, and he stole his seventh bag of the year for good measure. The 31-year-old has been a mild disappointment thus far in 2024 — depending on expectations, of course — with a .235/.316/.399 slash, but the homers and steals have help balance things out a bit.
