    • Stuck with loss in quality start
      Steele (0-3) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings as the Cubs were downed 3-2 by the Reds. He struck out seven.

      Advice: The southpaw pitched well in his second quality start of the season, generating 30 called or swinging strikes among his 90 pitches, but a lack of run support kept him out of the win column once again. Steele appears to be rounding into form after missing all of April with a hamstring strain, and over his last three starts he sports a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB through 19 innings.       Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a three-run double and a walk versus the Angels in Friday’s win.

    • Irvin throws six scoreless innings in win Friday
      Jake Irvin threw six shutout innings and got the win in the Nationals’ 2-1 victory over the Braves on Friday.



      Advice: Irvin gave up four hits, walked two and struck out four. The win was his fourth of the season. Irvin has allowed more than two earned runs in only one of his last eight starts. His ERA is down to 3.12 and he has a SO:BB of 64:14 in 75 innings. Irvin has been consistently good this season and it’s mostly supported by a 3.56 xFIP.     • Justin Steele remains winless after quality start
      Justin Steele dropped to 0-3 after allowing three runs in seven innings Friday against the Reds.

      Advice: Two of the runs scored in the fourth after Steele had Elly De La Cruz picked off first base, only for Cruz to reach second because of errant throw from Michael Busch.       Christian Yelich went 3-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base against the Tigers on Friday.

      Irvin (4-5) earned the win Friday over Atlanta, allowing four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Irvin has now thrown 14 scoreless innings in two starts against Atlanta this year, allowing just six hits while logging 14 strikeouts. The 27-year-old right-hander has now delivered four straight quality starts, pitching to a 1.47 ERA in that span.       Diaz (shoulder) said after his rehab appearance with High-A Brooklyn on Thursday that he will get one more rehab outing Sunday before being activated from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday or Thursday, SNY reports.

      Advice: Diaz allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning for Brooklyn in his first rehab appearance. The reliever was pleased with his performance, saying after the game that his fastball had "new life" and his slider felt "great."       Falter (3-3) took the loss Thursday against the Dodgers, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks across four innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Falter's start began and ended poorly, as he yielded four runs in the first inning --including a three-run home run by Freddie Freeman -- before getting pulled after allowing a solo homer to Teoscar Hernandez to lead off the fifth. The outing marked Falter's first time allowing more than three runs since April 29 and snapped a streak of four straight quality starts. Through 68.1 innings, Falter owns a 3.69 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.
