    Yusei Kikuchi limited the Nationals to one run in six innings and fanned seven in a no-decision Friday.

    Advice: Kikuchi left with a two-run lead and then watched the bullpen give up seven runs in two innings. This is probably the Jays’ ugliest loss yet, particularly since they were facing Patrick Corbin. Kikuchi is certainly doing his part thus far, amassing a 2.72 ERA and a 43/9 K/BB ratio in 39 2/3 innings.   • Goes yard twice in loss
    Baty went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Rays.

    Advice: The young third baseman took Aaron Civale deep for a three-run blast in the second inning to open the scoring, and he then connected for a solo shot off Jason Adam in the ninth. It was the first multi-homer performance of Baty's big-league career, and it snapped a 27-game drought for the 24-year-old -- his only other long ball in 2024 came back on March 30. Despite the power outage, Baty has taken a big step forward in his development this year, and through 30 contests he's slashing .271/.340/.385, a massive improvement on last season's .212/.275/.323 line.     Paddack (3-1) yielded two hits and a walk over six shutout frames Friday, striking out six and earning a win over the Red Sox.

    Advice: After working out of a two-on, no-out jam in the first inning, Paddack locked in and rolled through the Red Sox. He's now 3-1 with a three-game winning streak; during that span, he's posted a 2.00 ERA and an 18:2 K:BB over 18 frames. Paddack forced 12 whiffs, including six with his four-seam that averaged 94.3 mph. The 28-year-old righty has dropped his ERA to 4.78 through six starts.   • Altuve drives in run, steals base in win over M’s
    Jose Altuve went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in a win Friday over the Mariners.

    Advice: Altuve hit a perfect safety squeeze to knock in his 12th run of the game and give Houston a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning. The steal was the seventh of the season and 300th of his career. Altuve has been sensational thus far in 2024, and is playing near — if not at — the MVP level he reached not all that long ago.     Josh Rojas picked up three hits in a loss Friday to the Astros.

    Advice: Rojas singled all three times. It’s been an outstanding beginning to the 2024 campaign for the long-time Diamondback, as the three-hit game sees his average jump up to .338.   • Josh Hader locks down third save of season
    Josh Hader fired a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to pick up a save Friday against the Mariners.

    Advice: Hader did walk a batter to put the tying run at the plate, but the left-hander was able to get a pair of strikeouts to lower his ERA to 5.93 and also pick up his third save.     Garcia went 1-for-1 with a walk, a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 9-3 win over the Blue Jays.

    Advice: The 23-year-old began the night on the bench with Yusei Kikuchi toeing the rubber for Toronto, but Garcia got the call to pinch hit for Trey Lipscomb in the seventh inning once the southpaw was out of the game. Garcia delivered, launching the first pitch he saw from Erik Swanson to straightaway center field to put the Nationals in the lead for good. The long ball was his second of the season, and the first pinch-hit blast of his career.     José Alvarado threw a scoreless ninth in a one-run game for his sixth save Friday against the Giants.

    Advice: Alvarado gave up five runs on Opening Day and remained wild for a spell after that, but he’s walked just one in his last nine appearances and given up one run in 14 appearances. Unfortunately, Erik Swanson immediately coughed up the lead in the seventh inning, denying Kikuchi his third win.
