    • Spencer Torkelson picks up two hits in win
Spencer Torkelson went 2-for-4 in a victory Thursday over the White Sox.

Advice: Torkelson was the only player for either team that picked up multiple hits. The former first-overall pick got off to a slow start in 2023, but was one of the better options at first base over the second-half of the campaign. It’s never been a question of talent with Torkelson, and based on what he’s shown as of late, he’s starting to apply that talent and then some. Rotoworld 19 minutes ago
    • Wild in opener
Valdez allowed three runs on five hits and six walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Yankees. He struck out five.

Advice: Valdez managed to skirt danger through the first four innings, holding the Yankees off the board thanks to three double-play balls. However, the left-hander's shaky command finally caught up with him in the fifth, where he was tagged for three runs. While his final line ultimately could have looked a lot worse, it's a discouraging outing from Valdez, who's expected to anchor the Astros' rotation while Justin Verlander (shoulder) is sidelined. Valdez went 12-11 last season with a 3.45 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 200:57 K:BB across 31 starts. Rotowire.com Today, 4:57 pm

    • Framber Valdez issues six walks in season opener
Framber Valdez was charged with three runs over 4 2/3 innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Yankees.

Advice: Valdez was staked to an early three-run lead, but was unable to hang on as things came unraveled in a calamitous three-run fifth inning, which led to his departure from the contest. He allowed four consecutive baserunners before getting a pair of strikeouts, which gave him a shot to escape without any additional damage. Unfortunately, he wound up hitting Anthony Rizzo with a pitch and was immediately lifted for reliever Seth Martinez, who walked in another run. The 30-year-old lefty, who struck out five and also issued six walks, will square off against the Blue Jays on Tuesday at home. Rotoworld Today, 4:41 pm

    • Jose Berrios stymies Rays in Opening Day win
José Berríos stymied the Rays on Thursday, allowing just two runs on six hits over six innings while getting the win in the team’s 8-2 Opening Day victory.

Advice: Berríos struck out six and walked one on the day. The velocity on both his sinker and curve was up almost 1.5 mph from 2023 and those pitches made up the brunt of his arsenal at 67 percent usage. He recorded a 23 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW on the day and it was nice to see him put up a 45 percent whiff rate on his four-seam fastball, which he got up in the zone often. It was a nice performance to start the season for the often-overlooked pitcher against a good offense, but he’ll get an ever tougher test next week when the Blue Jays travel to Houston. • Pablo López stellar in win on Opening Day
Pablo López was stellar against the Royals on Thursday, allowing just one run on four hits in seven innings while striking out seven in the Twins’ 4-1 Opening Day win.

Advice: López didn’t walk a better in the outing and looked dominant after allowing a first-inning home run to Maikel Garcia. López had a 33 percent whiff rate and 37 percent CSW on the afternoon and excelled at keeping the four-seam fastball up in the zone, allowing him to rack up 12 whiffs on 23 swings against the pitch. The veteran is off to a good start in hoping to prove that he belongs amongst the top 10 starters in fantasy. He’ll get a similarly average lineup next week when he takes on the Guardians at home. • Santander homers, drives in four runs vs. Angels
Anthony Santander homered and knocked in four runs as the Orioles topped the Angels on Opening Day on Thursday.

Advice: Santander drove in a run with a fielder’s choice in the first inning and delivered a sacrifice fly before taking Jose Suarez deep in the fourth to effectively put the game out of reach. Despite hitting 61 homers with 184 RBI over the past two seasons, Santander didn’t get a lot of respect in fantasy drafts this spring. With this potent Orioles’ lineup, he should remain plenty productive. Rotoworld Today, 3:01 pm

    • Jarren Duran leading off on Opening Day vs. M’s
Jarren Duran is in left field and leading off for Thursday’s Opening Day matchup against the Mariners.

Advice: No real surprises for Boston as they take on Mariners ace Luis Castillo to open the season in Seattle. Here’s the full lineup: Duran LF, Rafael Devers 3B, Trevor Story SS, Triston Casas 1B, Tyler O’Neill RF, Masataka Yoshida DH, Ceddanne Rafaela CF, Enmanuel Valdez 2B and Connor Wong C. • In Opening Day lineup
Reynolds (back) is starting in left field and batting second in Thursday's opener in Miami.

Advice: Reynolds missed the final three Grapefruit League games with a back issue, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Opening Day. The 29-year-old slugged four home runs in 15 games this spring. Rotowire.com Today, 10:32 am

    • Puts together strong spring
Stroman finished the Grapefruit League slate with a 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB over 20.2 innings across five starts.

Advice: Stroman signed a two-year deal with the Yankees in January, and his role with the club took on added importance when Gerrit Cole was diagnosed with an elbow injury that will likely cost him at least the first two months of the season. Though Stroman drew some criticism for turning down an opportunity to take Cole's place as the team's Opening Day starter, his reason for doing so was tied to sticking to his pitching schedule, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, and the right-handed hurler remains a critical component of New York's chance at success this season. Stroman certainly appears ready for the beginning of the campaign after finishing spring play with six shutout innings against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 11:31 pm
