• Pitching behind opener
Nelson will pitch behind opener Joe Mantiply against the Dodgers on Tuesday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Nelson surrendered six runs over 3.2 frames his last time out versus Minnesota, and he'll work behind an opener Tuesday for the second time this season. The right-hander has a 5.69 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB across 68 innings this year. Rotowire.com Today, 2:53 pm
  • Joe Mantiply to open for D-backs on Tuesday
Joe Mantiply will serve as an opener for Tuesday’s game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Mantiply gets the nod to open Tuesday’s showdown at Dodger Stadium with Ryne Nelson to follow afterwards in a bulk relief role. Rotoworld Today, 2:51 pm

  • Out with elbow inflammation
The Angels placed Wantz on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to July 1, due to right elbow inflammation.

Advice: The right-hander was called up by the Halos over the weekend and presumably suffered the injury when he allowed a run over 1.1 innings Sunday versus Detroit. Wantz is without an officially timeline for his return but won't be back until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 2:48 pm

  • Activated ahead of start
The Angels reinstated Soriano (abdomen) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: Soriano landed on the injured list June 20 due to an infection in his abdomen, but he'll now return following a minimum-length stay to start against the Athletics. He could be under a pitch count during his first start back, but he'll still be in a position to succeed versus a weak Oakland offense. Andrew Wantz (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:47 pm

  • Angels activate José Soriano for Tuesday start
Angels activated RHP José Soriano from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Soriano will take the ball on Tuesday night against the division-rival Athletics after missing one start due to an abdominal infection. The 25-year-old righty has pitched well this season with a solid 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 60/28 K/BB ratio across 72 1/3 innings (14 appearances, 12 starts). He’s a worthy streaming option for fantasy managers, especially in deeper mixed leagues. Rotoworld Today, 2:45 pm

  • Angels put Andrew Wantz on IL with elbow inflammation
Angels placed RHP Andrew Wantz on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 1, with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: No word yet on how long Wantz will be sidelined. The 28-year-old righty was recalled last week from Triple-A Salt Lake and made only one relief appearance before hitting the injured list. Rotoworld Today, 2:41 pm

  • Designated for assignment
The Athletics designated Newcomb for assignment Tuesday.

Advice: Newcomb made just seven appearances last year for Oakland and it seems that it will be the same this year as well. After posting a 6.30 ERA across 10.0 innings in seven games for Oakland, the 31-year-old will be looking to be claimed elsewhere. In a corresponding move, Tyler Ferguson was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 2:18 pm

  • Nearing bullpen session
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Tuesday that Bednar (oblique) has progressed to throwing from 120 feet and should soon resume mound work, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: The right-hander was briefly shut down from throwing after he landed on the injured list June 23 with an oblique strain. Bednar will be eligible to be reinstated to the active roster soon, but he could spend more than the 15-day minimum on the shelf since he's yet to get back on the mound. However, he doesn't appear to be in for a lengthy absence and may be able to rejoin the Pirates before the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 2:14 pm

  • Kyle Harrison (ankle) throwing bullpen on Tuesday
Kyle Harrison (ankle) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: Harrison isn’t expected to require a minor league rehab assignment before returning to San Francisco’s starting rotation mix after suffering a right ankle sprain back in mid-June. It sounds like he could be back prior to the All-Star break, but that isn’t a lock. Rotoworld Today, 2:12 pm
