• Bobby Witt Jr. scores run, picks up two hits in loss
Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.

Advice: Witt Jr. has doubled 25 times in 2024, and he came around to score after his two-bagger Friday on a single by Salvador Perez. He came up just short in the All-Star voting, but barring something completely unforeseeable he’ll definitely be involved in the game with a slash of .321/.371/.559 over his 90 games. • Justin Steele throws complete game for first win
Justin Steele went the distance for his first win of 2024, pitching a two-hitting in a 5-1 game against the Angels.

Advice: The Cubs didn’t need to turn to their shaky pen this time out, as Steele finished off the Angels in just 95 pitches. He struck out seven and walked two for his first win in 13 starts this season and 18 outings dating back to last year, when he opened up 16-3 before going 0-2 in his final four turns and perhaps costing himself a Cy Young Award. Of course, it was hardly his fault that he was 0-3 this year coming into this one. His ERA stands at 2.95 after this one. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:32 pm

  • Set to return Tuesday
Schwarber (groin) is expected to be activated off the injured list ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Dodgers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Schwarber has been working through drills at 90 percent intensity, per Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia, and the 31-year-old slugger will run the bases Saturday in the last step in his rehab program before he rejoins the team. Schwarber is slashing .250/.373/447 with 17 home runs, 49 RBI and a .820 OPS over 367 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:18 pm

  • Throws complete game for first win
Steele (1-3) earned the win against the Angels on Friday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over nine innings.

Advice: Steele needed just 95 pitches to toss his first career complete game. The only blemish was an RBI single by Taylor Ward in the fifth, but the lefty responded by retiring 13 consecutive batters to seal his much overdue first win of the year. The 29-year-old has logged six straight quality starts and owns a 2.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 77:18 K:BB over 79.1 innings this season. He lines up for a road matchup with the Orioles next week. • Out again versus lefty
Gorman is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: It's the second straight day that Gorman will be on the bench as the opposition sends a left-hander -- in this case, Patrick Corbin -- to the hill. Brendan Donovan will play second base for the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:31 pm

  • On bench Friday
Jeffers is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Jeffers will get a breather Friday after notching three hits, including a two-run homer and an RBI double, during Thursday's win over Detroit. Christian Vazquez will catch and bat ninth against Houston. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:20 am

  • Another three-hit performance
Witt went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Thursday's loss to the Rays.

Advice: Witt drove home Kansas City's second run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the third inning before recording a hit in each of his next three trips to the plate, including a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth. It was the star shortstop's third multi-hit performance in his last four games, and he's now tallied at least one RBI in four straight. Witt is 6-for-11 (.545) through three games to start the month of July, and his .319 average on the season puts him at second in the majors behind Steven Kwan (.367). • Posts big offensive line Thursday
O'Neill went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, a run, two RBI and two stolen bases in a 6-5 extra-innings win against Miami on Thursday.

Advice: O'Neill accounted for three of Boston's eight total hits to record his third consecutive multi-hit effort. He came up big in extra frames, recording an RBI single in the 11th inning and adding the game-winning RBI on a double in the 12th. O'Neill also collected two thefts in the contest after notching just one steal (on one attempt) over his first 60 games of the season. Swiping bags probably won't become a trend for the outfielder moving forward, though it's worth noting that he stole 29 combined bases across the 2021 and 2022 campaigns while with St. Louis. • Featured in blowout win
Jeffers went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, an RBI double, an RBI single and an additional run scored during Thursday's 12-3 win over the Tigers.

Advice: Although Thursday's contest was called after seven innings due to rain, Jeffers and the Twins' offense had no trouble putting up runs. The 27-year-old drove in four of those runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off Kenta Maeda in the fourth inning. Jeffers' round tripper was his 15th of the year, which is a career-high tally. The outing was also Jeffers' first multi-hit performance in 11 games and marked his second four-RBI game of 2024. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:10 pm
