• Takes loss Friday
Thompson (3-3) allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one over 1.1 innings, picking up the loss to Oakland on Friday.

Advice: Thompson got the final out of the seventh inning of a tie game then was the pitcher of record when the Diamondbacks took the lead. Usually, that means game over -- Thompson holds the lead then Paul Sewald closes it -- but that was not the case Friday. Thompson, who had allowed just four runs over 32 innings and leads Arizona with 11 holds, was roughed up in the eighth. He told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com that he couldn't find the right adjustment to avoid throwing very hittable strikes. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago
  • Takes tough loss Friday
Miller (4-6) allowed three runs on three hits across an inning of work and took the loss Friday against the Angels. He struck out two.

Advice: Miller allowed two hits but had a chance to escape the eighth inning with no damage before he allowed a two-out, three-run home run to Logan O'Hoppe. The veteran righty had been pitching well this month with a 2.25 ERA across seven appearances, so this likely is just a blip on the radar. However, Miller does now have a subpar 4.62 ERA overall, which he'll work on lowering in the coming weeks. Rotowire.com Today, 6:21 am
  • Effective in team debut
Lopez worked around a hit to toss a scoreless inning of relief in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Lopez had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa before the game, and he proceeded to make his team debut right away. The righty was dumped by the Mets earlier this year, and he struggled to a 5.95 ERA last season with three different teams, but he was an effective reliever as recently as 2022. If Lopez can get back to that form with the Cubs, he could establish a regular role in their bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 6:17 am
  • Marlins outright Kent Emanuel to Triple-A
Marlins sent LHP Kent Emanuel outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Emanuel went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 32-year-old lefty has made five relief appearances this season for the Marlins. Rotoworld Today, 5:54 am

  • D-backs recall Humberto Castellanos on Friday
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Castellanos received the call to rejoin Arizona’s relief mix for Friday’s showdown against the Athletics. The 26-year-old righty made one relief appearance earlier this months in mop-up duty. Rotoworld Today, 5:50 am
  • D-backs option Scott McGough back to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Scott McGough to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: McGough was shipped back to the minors ahead of Friday’s game against the Athletics after compiling an underwhelming 7.33 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 20/18 K/BB ratio across 27 innings (22 appearances, two starts) this season. Rotoworld Today, 5:49 am

  • Blows save, grabs win Friday
Doval (3-1) allowed a run on one hit and struck out one over over inning, blowing a save but earning the win Friday over the Dodgers.

Advice: Doval allowed a triple to Andy Pages, who came home on a Jason Heyward sacrifice fly that tied the game at 3-3 in the ninth inning. The Giants then got a walk-off home run from Brett Wisely to make Doval the pitcher of record despite his poor outing. He's given up nine runs over nine innings in June, though a pair of four-run meltdowns account for much of that damage. He hasn't been dominant this season with a 4.55 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 39:21 K:BB while converting 14 of 17 save chances over 31.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:24 pm
  • Hit hard by Mets
Blanco (8-3) took the loss Friday as the Astros were downed 7-2 by the Mets, surrendering six runs (three earned) on six hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: It was a tough night for the right-hander, who served up multiple long balls for the first time since May 3 and got tagged for three for the first time in his career. Despite his struggles keeping the ball in the park, Blanco nearly escaped with his fourth straight quality start thanks to an Alex Bregman error, but he fell one out short and got the hook after 98 pitches (65 strikes). Blanco will take a 2.49 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 84:37 K:BB through 90.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Toronto. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:23 pm

  • Stunned by San Diego
Pivetta (4-5) took the loss Friday, coughing up five runs on seven hits and a walk over four-plus innings in a 9-2 loss to the Padres. He struck out four.

Advice: The right-hander was cruising through four innings, but San Diego erupted for all nine of its runs in the fifth before Boston's pitching staff was able to secure an out. Pivetta served up a two-run homer to Kyle Higashioka to begin that offensive outburst, and he's been taken deep five times in his last three starts, stumbling to a 6.46 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over that stretch despite a 13:3 K:BB in 15.1 innings. Pivetta will try to keep the ball in the park in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Miami. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:14 pm
