• Andre Pallante gives up two runs in brief outing
Andre Pallante was charged with two runs (one earned) over 3 1/3 innings on Saturday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Pallante turned in a perfect opening frame before engineering a masterful escape after giving up back-to-back hits to open the second inning. He got into trouble in the fourth inning after giving up consecutive hits to open the frame and was lifted for reliever Chris Roycroft after striking out Ian Happ and wound up being charged with a pair of runs following his departure. He struck out four and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 25-year-old righty figures to continue operating in a swingman-type role for the Cardinals moving forward. Rotoworld 34 minutes ago

  • Exits early versus Miami
Winker (undisclosed) exited Saturday's matchup with the Marlins in the bottom of the third inning, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: Winker singled and later rounded second base on a base knock from Ildemaro Vargas in the bottom of the first inning, being tagged out after awkwardly sliding back into the bag. Luis Garcia replaced him at the plate in the third inning and more information on Winker's status will likely come following Saturday's contest. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago

  • Sitting Saturday
Taveras is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Mariners, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Taveras will get a day off after he went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts in the team's 3-2 win Friday. Travis Jankowski will take over in center field and bat sixth against Seattle. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

  • Brewers outright James Meeker to Triple-A
Brewers sent RHP James Meeker outright to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: The 29-year-old hurler was jettisoned off of the Brewers’ 40-man roster earlier in the week, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the team at the Triple-A level. Rotoworld 50 minutes ago

  • Remains out Saturday
Smith is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Mariners, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Smith will miss a second straight game as he nurses "general tightness". Ezequiel Duran will draw the start at third base while Robbie Grossman enters the lineup at designated hitter and bats seventh against Seattle. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

  • Another rehab start set
Scherzer will make another rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday against Tacoma.

Advice: Scherzer will be back on the mound for the second start of his rehab assignment after tossing four scoreless while striking out five Sunday against Triple-A Oklahoma City. The right-hander has yet to make his major-league debut this year as he's been recovering from offseason back surgery and then a subsequent thumb injury he suffered in April. If all goes well against Tacoma, it's possible that it is Scherzer's final rehab outing. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago

  • Back in big leagues
Huff was called up from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

Advice: Huff will return to the major-league roster after being sent down in late April, replacing Jonah Heim with the team in Seattle after Heim was placed on the paternity list Saturday. Huff will likely operate as the backup catcher to Andrew Knizner while in the bigs. Rotowire.com Today, 1:15 pm

  • Placed on paternity list
Heim was placed on the paternity list Saturday.

Advice: Heim will be away from the team for up to three days as he is with his family for the birth of his third child. In the meantime, fellow catcher Sam Huff was called up from Triple-A Round Rock to replace him on the major-league roster. Rotowire.com Today, 1:12 pm
