  • Poised for MLB start this week

    Advice: Scott had been listed as Syracuse's starter for Monday, but he was scratched from the outing for non-injury reasons. The Mets have already confirmed David Peterson and Sean Manaea as their starters for the first two games in Washington, so Scott could slot into the rotation as early as Wednesday while New York navigates a stretch of 17 games in 17 days leading into the All-Star break. Scott turned in a 3.90 ERA and 25:6 K:BB over 27.2 innings in five starts earlier this season for New York. He's posted a 2.76 ERA and 55:12 K:BB in 42.1 frames covering nine starts with Syracuse.   • Christian Scott’s AAA start being skipped
    The Mets are skipping Christian Scott’s turn in the Triple-A rotation and starting Mike Vasil on Monday night instead.

    Advice: There is no reported injury for Scott, so skipping his start would seem to be a strong indication that he will be called up to take over Tylor Megill’s spot in the rotation.     Birdsong is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday in Atlanta, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: The banged-up Giants have only two members of their Opening Day rotation (Logan Webb and Jordan Hicks) available at the moment, so San Francisco should have a spot available for Birdsong until at least three of Kyle Harrison (ankle), Blake Snell (groin), Alex Cobb (hip), Robbie Ray (elbow) and Keaton Winn (elbow) come back from the injured list. After being expedited to the big leagues last week following just two starts at Triple-A Sacramento, Birdsong demonstrated shaky command in his MLB debut against the Cubs on Wednesday, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. On a positive note, Birdsong induced nine swings and misses and finished with five punchouts. His long-term outlook remains promising, but Birdsong shapes up as a risky fantasy option heading into what will likely be a two-start week.   • Tagged for three runs in relief
    Roupp worked 2.2 innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Dodgers, giving up three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three.

    Advice: Heading into Sunday, Roupp had been residing on Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list, but he had made three rehab appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Rather than having him slot back into the Sacramento rotation Sunday, the Giants instead called him up from the minors to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen. Roupp ended up piggybacking starter Spencer Bivens, who tossed five innings of one-run ball before leaving the game. With the rotation having been hit hard by injuries lately, the Giants could have two openings during the upcoming week, but Bivens pitched well enough to earn one of those spots.     Perales (elbow) underwent a full UCL reconstruction surgery last week, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

    Advice: As anticipated, Perales required a traditional Tommy John surgery to repair the damage ligament in his right elbow rather than an internal brace procedure. As a result, Perales is unlikely to be ready to pitch late in the 2025 season, whereas an internal brace procedure would have resulted in a shorter timeline that could have put him in line to pitch at some point after the All-Star break in 2025.     Advice: In his most recent start in Friday's 9-2 win over the Mets, Vasquez took a no-decision after he was lifted after 59 pitches and four innings when he was struck in the right forearm by a comebacker. Follow-up X-rays cleared Vasquez of any structural damage to his forearm, and he's been cleared to make his next start after he played catch Sunday without incident. Since returning from Triple-A El Paso on June 1 and rejoining the big-league rotation, Vasquez has gone 2-1 with a 4.20 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB in 30 innings spanning six starts.     Brubaker (elbow) had his rehab assignment transferred from the Florida Complex League to Double-A Somerset on Sunday. He pitched three shutout innings for Somerset, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.

    Advice: This was Brubaker's third outing of his rehab assignment -- he previously pitched one game for Single-A Tampa and one game for the FCL Yankees. The right-hander looked good Sunday, throwing 30 of 47 pitches for strikes and yielding just one hit (a double). Brubaker appears to be building up his workload to take on a starting role, and he'll likely need a few more rehab outings before he's ready to be activated off the injured list. However, with that game getting paused in the top of the second inning due to severe weather and later postponed, Rodriguez won't get credited with statistics for that game until the contest is resumed Aug. 26 as part of a split doubleheader.
