    • Jordan Hicks strikes out seven, allows three vs. Cubs
Jordan Hicks gave up three runs in five innings while striking out seven against the Cubs on Thursday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

Advice: All three runs were given up in the third, as he gave up a two-run homer to Nico Hoerner and an RBI triple to Seiya Suzuki. The right-hander was strong outside of that frame while showing off his swing-and-miss stuff. In his first season with the Giants, Hicks had a 3.36 ERA, 76/33 K/BB and 1.28 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings in his 17 starts. Rotoworld Today, 4:51 pm

Oliver Ortega underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

Advice: Ortega underwent elbow surgery back in late March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow and underwent an additional procedure earlier this week that will end his season. The 27-year-old righty was claimed off waivers last October from the Twins and has yet to pitch for the Astros. Rotoworld Today, 4:43 pm

    • Returns from injured list
The Tigers reinstated Faedo (hip) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Faedo made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Toledo, during which he gave up one run over three innings while striking out four batters and walking four. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames in the majors, and he'll slide back into a middle relief role now that he's been cleared to rejoin the Tigers' bullpen. Keider Montero was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 4:00 pm

    • Tigers activate Alex Faedo for Thursday return
Tigers activated RHP Alex Faedo from the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Faedo returns to Detroit’s pitching mix, most likely in a long relief role, following a three-week absence due to right hip inflammation. The 28-year-old former top prospect has excelled in a bullpen role this season with a strong 3.38 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (21 appearances). Pirates optioned LHP Justin Bruihl to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Bruihl heads back to the minors ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Braves. The 27-year-old lefty has made seven relief appearances this season for the Pirates, posting a bloated 9.53 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 5/1 K/BB ratio across 5 2/3 innings of work. Rotoworld Today, 3:16 pm

    • Halos option Guillermo Zuñiga to Triple-A
Angels optioned RHP Guillermo Zuñiga to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Zuñiga has been shipped back to the minors to free up a roster spot for Thursday’s starter Davis Daniel to take the ball against the Tigers. The 25-year-old righty was called back up over the weekend after missing a couple months with a pectoral strain. He should be back in a couple weeks. Rotoworld Today, 2:50 pm

    • Dispatched to Salt Lake
The Angels optioned Zuniga to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

Advice: Zuniga will end up being the Angels' roster casualty as the team promotes Davis Daniel from Triple-A to start Thursday's game versus the Tigers. Zuniga allowed one run in two innings during his latest stint in the majors, bringing his ERA down to 6.43 through seven innings. Rotowire.com Today, 2:47 pm

    • Promoted ahead
The Angels recalled Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Thursday's game versus Detroit.

Advice: Daniel has yet to pitch in the majors this season despite joining the active roster for one day in May. He posted a 2.19 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 12.1 innings across three games with the Halos last season, but fantasy managers should expect results closer to his Triple-A statline (5.33 ERA, 1.50 WHIP in 76 innings) as he makes his first career MLB start Thursday. Guillermo Zuniga was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:43 pm
