  • Blue Jays place Troy Tulowitzki (quad) on DL
Blue Jays placed SS Troy Tulowitzki on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quadriceps.

Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is not in the Blue Jays starting lineup on Saturday.

  • Braves will re-evaluate Aybar on Saturday
The Braves plan to re-evaluate Erick Aybar (foot) on Saturday.

Advice: Aybar was forced to leave Friday's game after he was hit in the foot by a pitch. While X-rays came back negative, the Braves will ensure that he's ready to go before returning to the lineup. Expect to see Daniel Castro at shortstop on Saturday. Today, 6:53 am

  • Angela to designate Ryan for assignment
Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels plan to designate Brendan Ryan for assignment on Saturday.

Advice: The veteran infielder has been with the club as a reserve infielder, but offers little in the way of offense and isn't a part of the team's future plans. Today, 6:01 am

  • Kang homers, plates three in rout of Rangers
Jung Ho Kang homered and drove home three runs on Friday as the Pirates routed the Rangers 9-1 in Texas.

Advice: Kang clobbered a three-run homer that capped off a five-run uprising in the fifth inning. It was one of four home runs that the Pirates would hit in the contest, with Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen and Gregory Polanco each leaving the yard as well. Kang finished the night 2-for-5 and is now hitting .308/.367/.731 with six homers and 17 RBI in his first 60 plate appearances. Yesterday, 9:32 pm
  • Story drives in two runs vs. Giants
Trevor Story went 2-for-4 with two RBI against the Giants on Friday.

Advice: Story doubled in the fourth to knock in a run before adding an RBI single in the eighth. The 23-year-old has hit out of the No. 2 spot all season, but his recent struggles have pushed him down to the seventh spot in back-to-back games. It’s not a sure thing to continue, but Rockies manager Walt Weiss is going with the contact-oriented DJ LeMahieu out of the No. 2 spot instead. Yesterday, 9:32 pm
  • Cardinals expected to DFA Ruben Tejada
Mark Saxon of ESPN reports that the Cardinals are expected to designate Ruben Tejada for assignment on Saturday.

Advice: The Cardinals are forced to make a roster move to reinstate Matt Carpenter from the paternity leave list, and it appears as though Tejada is the odd-man out. Tejada is hitting just .176/.225/.235 in 34 at-bats this season. Yesterday, 8:35 pm
  • Erick Aybar day-to-day with foot contusion
Erick Aybar is listed as day-to-day after leaving Friday's game against the Marlins with a foot contusion.

Advice: Aybar was pulled after getting hit on the foot by a pitch from Adam Conley in the fourth inning. He may sit out on Saturday as a precaution, but expect him to return to the field before the weekend is through. Yesterday, 7:01 pm

  • Garcia homers out of leadoff spot for Cards
Greg Garcia homered, drew two walks, and two runs scored Friday against the Nationals.

Advice: Garcia, who was called up on Thursday, got the chance to start at third base and hit leadoff with Matt Carpenter away on paternity leave. The 26-year-old has made the most out of his limited opportunities in the majors, but he’ll likely head back down to Triple-A when Carpenter is ready to return. Yesterday, 6:56 pm
  • Espinosa homers in second straight game
Danny Espinosa socked a solo homer in Friday’s loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Espinosa has now homered in back-to-back games. It’s nice to see him finally pick things up, but it’s likely just a matter of time before top prospect Trea Turner takes over at shortstop. Even with the power over the past two days, Espinosa is batting just .203/.299/.320 over 48 games. Fortunately, he has provided value with his defense. Yesterday, 6:56 pm

  • Erick Aybar leaves game after hit by pitch
Erick Aybar was removed from Friday's game against the Marlins in the fifth inning after he was hit in the ankle by a pitch from Adam Conley.

Advice: Aybar remained in the game to run the bases for himself, but was replaced by Daniel Castro defensively to begin the next inning. It would appear as though his exit was precautionary, but expect an update from the Braves on his status shortly. Yesterday, 6:04 pm

  • Troy Tulowitzki (quad) returns to lineup
Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is back in the Blue Jays' lineup Friday.

  • Jurickson Profar batting leadoff for Rangers
Rangers recalled INF Jurickson Profar from Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Profar is starting at second base and batting leadoff for the Rangers on Friday and could remain in both places for the next week while Rougned Odor serves his suspension. After missing two seasons with ongoing shoulder issues, Profar has batted .284/.356/.426 with five homers and four steals across 189 plate appearances with Round Rock this season. His stay with the big club could be short, but he's worth owning in fantasy leagues while he's up. Yesterday, 12:58 pm
  • Cabrera (back) returns to Mets' lineup Fri.
Asdrubal Cabrera (back) is back in the Mets' lineup Friday.

Advice: Cabrera had to leave Wednesday's game due to back spasms, but he rested up during the off day Thursday and is now ready to go. He's at shortstop and batting second against Julio Urias and the Dodgers. Yesterday, 12:19 pm
  • Flores (hamstring) won't be activated Friday
Wilmer Flores (hamstring) will not be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Advice: The Mets have decided to extend Flores' rehab assignment a bit longer, but he could still conceivably return sometime over the weekend. Flores is slated to take over at first base for the Mets with Lucas Duda (back) on the shelf. Yesterday, 11:08 am

  • Trevor Story dropped to No. 7 spot in lineup
Trevor Story was dropped from the second to the seventh spot in the Rockies' lineup in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: DJ LeMahieu moved up to the No. 2 spot. Story has been slumping, although he hit a two-run homer Thursday from his new position in the lineup. It remains to be seen whether the change will stick, although the new alignment makes sense with LeMahieu offering more consistency and better on-base skills. Story obviously would lose a bit of fantasy value if he remains in the bottom-third of the order. "Trevor’s handled everything well," manager Walt Weiss said. "He’s a great kid and he’s having a great year. I told him, ‘This isn’t punishment because you are not doing something you are supposed to be doing. It has nothing to do with that.’ This is just me trying to stir things up a little bit." Yesterday, 6:09 am
  • Villar keeps producing, Brewers best Braves
Jonathan Villar went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored to help the Brewers take out the Braves 6-2 on Thursday.

Advice: If he's not doing it with his legs, he's doing it with his stick, as evidenced by Thursday's solo dinger. The homer was his second of the season to give him 16 RBI, and he's got 21 runs scored through Thursday's game. More importantly, Villar has 15 steals to lead the National League, and his .295/.392/.416 line is all gravy as well. Thursday, 9:16 pm

  • Descalso has two hits, two runs against Sox
Daniel Descalso went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Starting at designated hitter in the American League park, Descalso made his manager look smart by singling and scoring in the fifth and seventh innings. It was just his second start and fifth appearance of the season after he missed the first month and a half with a fractured left hand. He'll serve in a superutility role for the Rockies this year and carries no fantasy value. Thursday, 7:32 pm
  • Espinosa's homer leads Nationals past Cards
Danny Espinosa hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to lead the Nationals to a 2-1 win over the Cardinals on Thursday.

Advice: Espinosa's homer off Mike Leake broke a 1-1 tie and ended up being the difference. He finished 1-for-3 in the game. Despite Thursday's contribution, the 29-year-old is hitting just .201/.301/.302 in 47 games and appears to be keeping the seat warm for Trea Turner, who could be called up in a matter of weeks. • Diaz swats seventh homer in loss to Nationals
Aledmys Diaz hit his seventh home run of the season in a loss to the Nationals on Thursday.

Advice: The home run was Diaz' only hit on the night. The 25-year-old has started to come back down to earth after a torrid start to the year, but he still ranks sixth in the National League in hitting, fifth in runs and seventh in slugging. Diaz owns a .329/.359/.570 line with 25 RBI and 32 runs scored overall. Thursday, 6:59 pm

  • Jurickson Profar to fill in for Rougned Odor
The Rangers will call up Jurickson Profar from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Advice: That's when Rougned Odor will begin serving his seven-game suspension for punching Jose Bautista in the face. Profar is a shortstop by trade but will handle second base in Odor's absence. The 23-year-old hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2013. Profar could boost his trade value with a strong showing over the next week. He's played reasonably well for Round Rock this year, hitting .284 with five homers and four steals. The Rangers haven't announced who will go down in the corresponding roster move. Thursday, 2:30 pm
  • Jung Ho Kang goes 3-for-5 in Pirates' win
Jung Ho Kang went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI as the Pirates topped the Diamondbacks 8-3 on Thursday.

Advice: It's Kang's first three-hit game since he came off the disabled list three weeks ago. He's been dealing with a little hand injury, which is why today's start was just his second in five days. He's hitting .298 with five homers and 15 RBI in 47 at-bats. Thursday, 1:43 pm
  • Jean Segura goes 2-for-5, scores twice
Jean Segura went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored Thursday against the Pirates.

Advice: Segura's OPS has declined steadily since his outstanding first week of the season, but even so, he's remained a solid leadoff hitter for the Diamondbacks. He's hit .299 with a .330 OBP in May after coming in at .333 with a .362 OBP in April. Of course, as rarely as he walks, he needs to keep his average up around .300 to be useful at the top of the order. Thursday, 1:36 pm

  • Adeiny Hechavarria hits third home run
Making his first start of the year in the leadoff spot, Adeiny Hechavarria went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer against the Rays on Thursday.

Advice: Ichiro Suzuki was out of the lineup today, and manager Don Mattingly thought Hechavarria was a better choice than Derek Dietrich to lead off against a lefty. It worked out nicely, but even after today, Hechavarria has just a .285 OBP for the season. He'll likely continue to bat eighth for the most part. Thursday, 1:17 pm
  • Tulo (quad) out of Jays' lineup again Thurs.
Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup again on Thursday.

  • Cardinals recall Greg Garcia from AAA level
Cardinals recalled INF Greg Garcia from Triple-A Memphis.

Advice: Garcia will give the Cardinals infield depth while Matt Carpenter spends the weekend away on paternity leave. Garcia has a cool .811 career OPS in the major leagues and he's 6-for-10 with St. Louis in 2016, but the 26-year-old isn't going to play enough to carry fantasy relevance. Thursday, 9:24 am
  • Segura (head) in Diamondbacks lineup Thurs.
Jean Segura (head) is in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup Thursday against the Pirates.

Advice: Segura was taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh and tested for a concussion Tuesday after getting plunked on the side of the batting helmet by a 96 mph Arquimedes Caminero fastball. He somehow managed to avoid a serious injury and will bat leadoff in his return to action Thursday afternoon versus Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole. Thursday, 7:28 am

  • Asdrubal Cabrera (back) hopes to play Friday
Asdrubal Cabrera (back) hopes to return for Friday's series opener versus the Dodgers.

Advice: Cabrera made an early exit from Wednesday's series finale against the Nationals after experiencing back spasms. "All of a sudden, it locked up on him downstairs as he was stretching," Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday night. "He says he feels fine and will be ready for Friday. I hope he is." Cabrera is batting .283/.335/.392 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 46 games this season for New York. Thursday, 7:13 am
  • Eugenio Suarez strikes out three times
Eugenio Suarez struck out all three times he was up Wednesday in the loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Suarez was doing just fine as the Reds' No. 2 hitter last month, but coincidence or not, he's struggled ever since he was dropped in the order. He'll pick it up again eventually, but he's not in a great situation while hitting sixth or seventh for a bad Reds team. Wednesday, 10:18 pm
  • Villar knocks in a pair in win
Jonathan Villar went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a walk in Wednesday's extra-inning affair with the Braves.

Advice: Villar collected his 14th double of the year and is now hitting .290/.386/.395 on the year. He'll make questionable decisions at times -- such as getting thrown out at third base with nobody out, which he did on Wednesday -- but the 25-year-old has done far more good than bad in 2015. He now has 15 RBI to match his 15 stolen bases. Wednesday, 9:09 pm

J.J. Hardy continues to feel soreness in his fractured left foot.

Manager Buck Showalter said on Wednesday that the veteran shortstop is still not to the point where he is ready to take part in any weight-bearing exercises, though. • Brandon Crawford smacks walkoff RBI single
Brandon Crawford hit a walkoff RBI single to send the Giants to a 4-3, 10-inning win over the Padres on Wednesday.

Advice: Matt Duffy managed a one-out single against reliever Brad Hand in the 10th inning and later moved to second on a wild pitch, setting the stage for Crawford. The 29-year-old shortstop came through with a deep RBI single to win the game. It would have gone for a double or triple in any other circumstance. For the season, Crawford is hitting .262/.337/.449 with six homers and 27 RBI. Wednesday, 4:17 pm
  • Tulowitzki (quad) remains day-to-day
Troy Tulowitzki (quad) was feeling better on Wednesday, but is still considered day-to-day.

Mariners recalled INF Luis Sardinas from Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Chris Taylor has been optioned to Triple-A as the corresponding roster move. Earlier this season, the 23-year-old Sardinas saw 26 at-bats with the M's and managed just four hits in that space. While he could see his share of playing time until Ketel Marte (thumb) is ready to return, Sardinas has yet to find the sort of major league success that would make him a palatable fantasy option. • Tulo (quad) not in Blue Jays' lineup on Wed.
Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup Wednesday against the Yankees.

  • Crawford drives in four runs against Padres
Brandon Crawford went 2-for-3 with a three-run triple and four total RBI in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Padres.

Advice: Crawford notched his first RBI with a single in the sixth inning. He would come through again in much louder fashion in the bottom of the eighth. Stepping to the plate with the bases juiced, the 29-year-old shortstop brought 'em all home with a three-run triple off reliever Keith Hessler to blow open what had been a 3-1 game. For the season, Crawford is slashing .256/.330/.438 with nine doubles, six homers and 26 RBI across 160 at-bats. Tuesday, 10:18 pm
  • Correa delivers as Astros walk it off vs. O's
Carlos Correa hit an RBI single in the 13th inning to give the Astros a walk-off, 3-2 win over the Orioles on Tuesday.

Advice: Correa was 0-for-5 with two strikeouts before delivering the game-winning hit in the 13th. He's been streaky in his first full season in the majors, striking out in a surprising 25.1 percent of his plate appearances while also hitting seven homers with eight steals on the year. It all adds up to a .250/.343/.409 line that should be more attractive by season's end. Tuesday, 10:10 pm
  • Lindor collects three more hits against Sox
Francisco Lindor went 3-for-5 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in a win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Advice: Lindor was one of four Indians with multiple hits against Chris Sale and company. The shortstop now has six three-hit games in the month of May, batting .340 with 11 RBI and 17 runs scored this month. The 22-year-old is hitting .318/.372/.413 with nine stolen bases overall. • Kang (hand) flies out as pinch-hitter Monday
Jung Ho Kang (hand) flied out as a pinch-hitter on Monday afternoon against the Rockies.

Advice: Kang was held out of the starting lineup again with a jammed left hand, but he is expected back Tuesday and his at-bat Monday served as a positive sign even though it will go down as nothing more than a loud out. He hit the ball to the deep left-center field notch at PNC Park. Monday, 12:27 pm

Advice: He left Saturday's game with left hand discomfort after getting thrown out at home plate. Kang wasn't getting any treatment on his hand after the game and seemed optimistic about his status. While we wouldn't expect to see him in the lineup Sunday, it doesn't appear that Kang will miss much time. Saturday, 8:05 pm
  • Jung Ho Kang exits with left hand discomfort
Jung Ho Kang left Saturday's game against the Rockies with left hand discomfort.

Advice: He suffered the injury on a play at home plate. Kang didn't immediately come out of the game but was eventually replaced by David Freese in the sixth inning. He went 1-for-3 with a double before exiting. The Pirates are calling Kang day-to-day. Saturday, 4:37 pm
  • Wilmer Flores to begin rehab on Tuesday
Wilmer Flores (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday.

Advice: Flores is expected to be activated from the disabled list as soon as he's eligible on Friday. He'll get a few games under his belt in the minor leagues to get his timing back before a return to a utility role with the Mets. Saturday, 10:23 am

  • Diaz drives in two runs in loss to D-Backs
Aledmys Diaz went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Diaz drove in a run with a ground out in the first inning before reaching on an RBI single in the seventh. The move to the No. 2 spot this week was long overdue and he should have a good chance to stick there if he continues to hit. By the way, he’s not slowing down. He has hit safely in seven out of his last eight games and four of them have been multi-hit games. Diaz is batting .373/.403/.634 overall. The Cardinals can’t possibly sit him when Jhonny Peralta (thumb) comes off the DL. Friday, 9:45 pm

  • Aybar returns to Braves' lineup
Erick Aybar went 1-for-3 with a bunt single and a walk in his return to action Friday against the Phillies.

Advice: Aybar sat out Thursday’s game after getting a chicken bone caught in his throat. Fortunately, he’s fine and should be good to go moving forward. The 32-year-old is hitting just .178 with a .423 through his first 39 games this season, so this year hasn’t been very kind to him so far. Friday, 7:47 pm

  • Jung Ho Kang not in Friday's lineup
Jung Ho Kang is not in the Pirates' lineup Friday.

Advice: He's getting a day off as the Pirates continue to ease him back into things. David Freese is at third base. Friday, 12:09 pm
  • Story has homer, three RBI in loss to Cards
Trevor Story went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a loss to the Cardinals on Thursday.

Advice: Story had a two-run double early in the game before launching a solo homer, his 12th home run of the year, in the seventh inning. He's now hit safely in seven straight games, collecting four doubles, a triple and a home run in that span. People who were waiting for the 23-year-old's production to drop off are still waiting, as he's hitting .287/.344/.622 with those 12 homers, 31 RBI and 26 runs scored on the season. Thursday, 9:40 pm
  • Lindor steals base, scores twice against Reds
Francisco Lindor went 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base Thursday against the Reds.

Advice: Lindor continues to hit everything in sight, as Thursday was his fourth consecutive multi-hit game and his sixth in the last week. The stolen base -- as if stinging the ball every at-bat wasn't enough -- was his seventh of the year. The 22-year-old is now hitting .329/.382/.439 with 19 RBI and 27 runs scored overall. Thursday, 7:09 pm
  • Erick Aybar hospitalized after choking on bone
Erick Aybar was taken to the hospital Thursday after getting a chicken bone stuck in his throat.

Advice: Obviously he won't be starting against Pittsburgh in the series finale. The Braves own the NL's worst record by a wide margin and aren't getting any breaks right now, even in the lunch room. Daniel Castro will get the nod at shortstop on Thursday night. Aybar is day-to-day. Thursday, 2:40 pm

  • Aledmys Diaz batting second Thursday night
Aledmys Diaz is batting second for the Cardinals on Thursday night against the Rockies.

Advice: Finally the hot-hitting shortstop gets a bump up manager Mike Matheny's batting order. Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double on Wednesday and is slashing .376/.403/.648 over his first 134 plate appearances as a major leaguer. Stephen Piscotty is at cleanup for the Cardinals versus Colorado righty Jon Gray. Thursday, 12:01 pm

  • X-ray shows healing in J.J. Hardy's left foot
    A follow-up X-ray on J.J. Hardy's fractured left foot showed significant healing.

Advice: The fracture is almost fully healed, Hardy told reporters Thursday. He'll head to the Orioles' spring training complex in Sarasota, Florida on Friday to begin ramping up his workouts toward full baseball activities. Then comes a minor league rehab assignment. The original timetable from May 2 had Hardy missing 6-8 weeks, and that still probably holds. Thursday, 8:17 am

  • Crawford backs Mad-Bum with homer, 5 RBI
Brandon Crawford went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and five RBI in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Padres.

Advice: Yes, Crawford drove in all five of the Giant runs on the evening. He got the party started with flair, mashing a three-run homer against Padres starter Colin Rea in the second inning. In the sixth, a sacrifice fly would be in order, while the eighth saw him notch an RBI double. The 29-year-old shortstop is slashing .257/.329/.434 with five homers and 21 RBI over 136 at-bats. He had been dealing with a bit of a stiff neck earlier this month, but Tuesday's performance would seem to indicate that bothersome ailment is behind him. Tuesday, 10:45 pm
