Peterson allows two runs in no-decision Saturday
David Peterson allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Mets’ 5-2 victory over the Pirates on Saturday.
Advice: Peterson gave up five hits, walked two and struck out five. Peterson has won three of his seven starts for the Mets this year and it would’ve been four if he completed five innings on Saturday. He has a 3.58 ERA, but his xFIP is 4.51. This is not the David Peterson we’re used to seeing. In 2022, he had a 10.7 K/9, 3.83 ERA and 3.31 xFIP. Last year, he had a 10.3 K/9, 5.03 ERA, and 3.59 xFIP. Last year he was unlucky with his ERA, but this year his strikeouts are way down. His K/9 is just 6.45 this year and that’s likely to catch up to him eventually given where his xFIP is. The 28-year-old left-hander is set to face the Nationals at home next week.
