In Cleveland's last two games, Santana is 3-for-6 with a homer, five walks, two RBI and four runs. He's third in the AL in walks (29) and fourth in OPS (.975).

Advice: After a red hot April, Santana was hitting just .182/.316/.333 heading into Wednesday's game. Backup catcher Yan Gomes has been playing more frequently lately, but Santana's bat plays at first base and he even gets an occasional game at DH, too. No matter how they arrange it, Santana will be in the middle of the Indians lineup more often than not.

Advice: In his first real exposure to Major League pitching, Maldonado batted .266/.321/.408 in 256 plate appearances last season. Perhaps he's toting his struggles onto the field with his catcher's gear. Maldonado has been a run worse than average defensively this year, according to Baseball Reference.

Advice: It was reported previously that Youkilis played in an extended spring game Tuesday, but that was actually also a simulated game. It's not clear when he'll be ready to play in a real game, but he's not far off. "I can't tell you," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "I think you have to give him a few days in a row before you evaluate to make sure that his back is healed and it doesn't come back. The last two days have been pretty good, so he's getting closer."

Encarnacion also drew a walk in the bottom of the eighth inning and eventually came around to score.

Advice: As has been the case for most of the season, Reynolds hit the ball with authority. Reynolds' batting average has dropped off somewhat, but .261 is far better than his owners expected out of the .236 career hitter. Through 45 games played, Reynolds is fifth in the AL with 12 homers, fourth in RBI with 40 and 10th in slugging with a .535 mark.

Advice: Morrison has spent the past week with the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads, collecting three hits and one RBI in 13 at-bats. Advice: The Mets have been answering questions about a Davis demotion for weeks and may have finally reached the breaking point. The 26-year-old first baseman went 0-for-2 on Wednesday and is batting just .147 with a .482 OPS and 49 strikeouts through his first 42 games this season. He has one hit in his last 38 plate appearances.

- Ike Davis went 0-for-2 with two walks on Wednesday and had a couple of key miscues in the field in the Mets' loss to the Reds on Wednesday.(Rotoworld.com)
Advice: Neither play went as an error, but they both could be considered mental errors. In the seventh, Davis stayed back on a grounder rather than charge it, allowing the runner to score from third and giving the Reds a 4-2 lead. In the ninth, with the score tied 4-4, Davis elected to let a grounder go down the line, figuring it would curl foul. It didn't, giving Brandon Phillips an RBI double. In Davis' defense, the ball really did seem likely to go foul and the Reds almost certainly would have scored the go-ahead run had he handled it. In truth, Davis' decision looked much worse than it was, but since it turned out so badly, it's more fuel for those who want him demoted.

Advice: Worse, he made a boneheaded play in the first, getting called for interference and giving two baserunners extra bases. The Mets have been extremely patient with Davis, but one wonders just how much longer that can last.

Advice: It's rather bizarre that the Dodgers have talked about promoting Yasiel Puig or Joc Pederson when Van Slyke has three homers and now two doubles in five starts for the club. He's not a great long-term bet, but he's been on fire at the plate all year long.

Belt cut down his strikeouts and increased his rate of walks and his numbers reflect an improved approach at the plate. In May, he's slashing .250/.357/.521 with three homers over 48 at-bats.

Advice: Davis continues to tear the cover off the baseball, now hitting .329/.420/.690 through 45 games this season. He is tied with Justin Upton for the league lead in home runs, and he trails only Miguel Cabrera in RBI. Davis is showing that his breakout 2012 was legit.

"So, I'm sure I'll be walking around doing some stuff. Again, I never had any back problems. I don't consider this a back problem really. But I don't know. I guess it just has to run its course."

This is actually the second time he has gone unclaimed since the end of spring training, which speaks to how far his stock has fallen in recent years. The 27-year-old batted .143 (3-for-21) in eight games with the A's and will function as minor league depth.

Advice: Votto is 20-for-40 (.500) in the 10 games, raising his batting average to .353 on the season. Miguel Cabrera is getting the bulk of the attention nationally, but few hitters in the game are as locked in as Votto right now.
