• Jhoan Duran (oblique) throws live bullpen session
Jhoan Duran (oblique) threw a successful live bullpen session on Friday in Minnesota.

Advice: Duran is close to being sent out on a minor league rehab assignment, and could go out before the weekend is through if he wakes up feeling good on Saturday. The 26-year-old stopper has a chance to make his triumphant return to the Twins bullpen before the month of April is through. Rotoworld 23 minutes ago

  • Throws BP session Friday
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Friday that Duran (oblique) threw a 21-pitch bullpen session and felt no discomfort, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Duran was supposed to throw 20 pitches Friday, but Baldelli noted that the right-hander "wanted an extra one, so that tells you he's feeling good." It's another positive step for Duran, and he appears close to starting his rehab assignment. He started the season on the 15-day IL due to a right oblique strain he sustained in spring training. • Undergoing Tommy John surgery
Gipson-Long is set to undergo Tommy John surgery Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: After having multiple doctors examine his elbow, the decision has been made for Gipson-Long to get UCL reconstruction on his right elbow. The right-hander started the season on the 15-day IL with a groin injury, and he was progressing in his rehab assignment before experiencing right forearm tightness. Gipson-Long will be shelved for the rest of the season and will likely miss much of 2025. Rotowire.com Today, 3:07 pm
  • Activated, optioned to Triple-A
The Twins reinstated Staumont (calf) from the 15-day injured list Friday and optioned him to Triple-A St. Paul, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Advice: A left calf strain has kept Staumont on the sideline since Opening Day. He made three rehab appearances at St. Paul and will remain with the Saints after allowing three runs across 3.2 innings, though he could return to the majors if the Twins find themselves in need of a fresh bullpen arm later in the season. • Diamondbacks place Ryne Nelson on 15-day IL
Diamondbacks placed RHP Ryne Nelson on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Nelson sustained the injury during Thursday’s start against the Giants after he was drilled in the elbow by a line drive off the bat of Mike Yastrzemski. He’ll miss at least a couple of weeks while recovering from the injury. Jordan Montgomery was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move on Friday and will take his place in the Diamondbacks’ rotation. Rotoworld Today, 2:55 pm

  • Jordan Montgomery set for D’Backs’ debut on Friday
Diamondbacks recalled LHP Jordan Montgomery from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw is set to make his Diamondbacks’ debut on Friday against the Giants. Montgomery struggled in his two rehab starts at Triple-A Reno, posting a 10.57 ERA, 2.22 WHIP and a 9/5 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings. Fantasy managers are likely eager to deploy Montgomery and shouldn’t be afraid of Friday’s matchup against the Giants. Rotoworld Today, 2:52 pm
  • Lands on 15-day IL
The Diamondbacks placed Nelson (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Nelson left Thursday's game against the Rockies after he took a comebacker to his arm in the second inning. Nelson will be replaced on the active roster by left-hander Jordan Montgomery, who will make his season debut Friday against the Giants. Nelson has started in four games this season, posting a 4.60 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB over 15.2 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 2:48 pm

  • Recalled for season debut
The Diamondbacks recalled Montgomery from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Advice: Montgomery made two tune-up starts in Triple-A, surrendering nine earned runs across 7.2 innings while striking out nine batters and walking five. While his minor-league numbers aren't exactly encouraging, the 31-year-old southpaw is still expected to be a quality contributor to Arizona's starting rotation after posting a 3.20 ERA across 188.2 innings between St. Louis and Texas last year. Ryne Nelson (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Today, 2:47 pm
  • Twins activate and option Josh Staumont on Friday
Twins activated RHP Josh Staumont from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A St. Paul.

Advice: The 30-year-old hurler had been rehabbing his left calf strain at Triple-A St. Paul and he’ll stay there a bit longer as he continues to build back up. Expect him to return to the Twins’ bullpen at some point in May. Rotoworld Today, 2:41 pm
