    • Ryan Pepiot shaky in return
      Ryan Pepiot allowed three earned runs across four innings in his return to the Rays’ rotation. He walked four and struck out three against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

      Advice: Pepiot had been on the shelf since May 5th after a Starling Marte line drive struck his leg and sent him to the IL. He was cruising early, but unraveled a bit in the fifth inning allowing the first three batters to reach base before being pulled. Both of his inherited runners came around to score. Pepiot leaned on his fastball, throwing it for two thirds of his pitches, and didn’t seem to have the best feel of his slider as the Red Sox swung and missed at it just once.       The Rays activated Pepiot (lower leg) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Red Sox in Tampa.

      Advice: Pepiot will rejoin the rotation Wednesday after missing the previous two weeks with a lower left leg contusion. The right-hander didn't make a rehab start, so it's possible he will be relatively limited from a pitch-count perspective versus Boston.       Stone (4-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings.

      Advice: Stone reached at least six innings for a fifth consecutive outing but just missed out on a quality start this time around. The Diamondbacks scratched out a pair of runs on him in the second and another in the fifth before Christian Walker crushed a solo home run in the sixth to make it a 4-1 ballgame. Tuesday was Stone's first time giving up more than a run since April 20 and his first loss since April 7.     • Gavin Stone charged with four runs in loss
      Gavin Stone lost to the Diamondbacks after allowing four runs in six innings on Tuesday.

      Advice: Stone came up a little short of delivering a fifth straight quality start and took his first loss since April 7. He gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out five in falling to 4-2 with a 3.60 ERA.       Pepiot (lower leg) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

      Advice: The 26-year-old righty landed on the shelf with a bruised lower left leg after his May 5 start versus the Mets, but he'll return Wednesday after being sidelined for the 15-day minimum.     • Turns in quality start
      Gilbert allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings in a no-decision Monday. He struck out one during the win over the Yankees.

      Advice: Gilbert coughed up two runs in the first inning but was still able to settle in for a quality start. He produced a stellar 1.69 ERA through his first seven starts but has seen that climb to 3.20 after allowing 14 runs over his last 16.2 frames. On the bright side, two of those outings were quality starts. Gilbert recorded only one strikeout with five whiffs, with both setting new season lows.       Houck (4-5) yielded two hits and a walk over seven shutout frames Monday, striking out five and earning a win over Tampa Bay.

      Advice: Houck was terrific Monday and didn't let any baserunners reach scoring position. It was his fourth scoreless start of the year, dropping his season ERA to 1.94 through 65 frames. Houck entered Monday's start on a four-game losing streak over his previous five starts. However, he registered an impressive 2.87 ERA during that span.
