  • Activated, serving as DH on Sunday
The Rockies reinstated Diaz (calf) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll serve as the Rockies' designated hitter and will bat fifth in Sunday's series finale versus the White Sox, according to Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette.

Advice: Colorado designated infielder Elehuris Montero for assignment to clear room on the active roster for Diaz, who returns to action after missing just under three weeks with a left calf strain. Though he'll operate as the Rockies' DH in his first game back, Diaz should soon settle back into primary duties at catcher, leaving fewer opportunities to go around for Jacob Stallings and Hunter Goodman. • Makes season debut
Wynns went 3-for-5 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Wynns was added to the roster Friday when the Reds placed Tyler Stephenson on the paternity list. The 33-year-old Wynns is not expected to remain on the roster past this weekend. Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:03 am
  • Gabriel Moreno (thumb) won’t need rehab assignment
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Saturday that Gabriel Moreno (thumb) is not expected to require a rehab assignment.

Advice: Moreno is getting back up to speed in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League at the moment, but Lovullo made it sound like he’ll return on Tuesday instead of getting into some additional minor league contests. The 24-year-old backstop has been out since last weekend due to a left thumb sprain. Rotoworld Saturday, 11:35 am
  • Getting Saturday off
Barnhart isn't in the Diamondbacks' lineup for Saturday's game versus Oakland.

Advice: The switch-hitting Barnhart owns just a .290 OPS against left-handed pitching this season, so he'll take a seat Saturday as the A's send southpaw Hogan Harris to the mound. Jose Herrera will fill in behind the dish and bat ninth. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:05 am
  • Getting Saturday off
Amaya isn't in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against the Brewers.

Advice: Amaya struck out in both of his at-bats during a loss in Friday's series opener, and he'll give way to Tomas Nido for Saturday's contest. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:49 am
  • Drawing closer to return
Diaz (calf) ran on the field Friday and Saturday and has made good progress in his recovery, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Manager Bud Black seemed to offer a more positive outlook on Diaz's recovery than in recent days, though Black still declined to offer a timetable for Diaz's return. Positively, the manager suggested that Diaz will not need a rehab assignment before being activated from the injured list. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:44 am

  • Miguel Amaya strikes out twice, gets lifted
Miguel Amaya struck out in both of his at-bats before being replaced by a pinch-hitter Friday against the Brewers.

Advice: It’s hard not to think that Yan Gomes would still be with the Cubs if Amaya weren’t hitting so badly that the team felt it had to make some sort of change. Amaya is currently at .192/.251/.263 in 184 plate appearances. Statcast believes he’s been quite unlucky, but just to the point at which he should be merely significantly below average, rather than having the sixth worst OPS among all players with 150 plate appearances. • Catching in minors Saturday
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Moreno (thumb) will catch five innings in a rehab game in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Saturday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Moreno was placed on the injured list June 22 due to a sprained left thumb, but Lovullo said earlier in the week that he expects the catcher to return after the minimum 10 days. Barring any setbacks this weekend, Moreno will be eligible to return Tuesday for the beginning of the Diamondbacks' road series against the Dodgers. Rotowire.com Friday, 4:26 pm
  • Rejoining Cincinnati
The Reds selected Wynns' contract from Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Advice: The 33-year-old will rejoin the Reds with starting catcher Tyler Stephenson being placed on the paternity list. Wynns is slashing .250/.309/.410 with 16 RBI this season in Louisville. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:02 pm
