  • Chirinos allows one earned run in win over Royals
    Yonny Chirinos allowed three hits and one earned run over five innings in Tuesday’s win over the Royals.

    Advice: Chirinos kept a potent Royals lineup at bay all evening, with his lone blemish coming in the first inning on a Vinny Pasquantino RBI single. Chirinos allowed six total baserunners on the evening, with three coming via the walk, but managed to pitch himself out of a few jams with runners in scoring position. A lack of run support left him on the hook for the loss before an RBI single by Nick Gordon in the seventh tied the game at 1-1. Through two starts, Chirinos is boasting a 2.70 ERA with 11 strikeouts to just three walks.   • Elvis Peguero picks up surprise save vs. Rangers
    Elvis Peguero pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save on Tuesday against the Rangers.

    Hoby Milner allowed one earned run over two innings in Tuesday’s win over the Rangers.

    Advice: Milner was tasked with toeing the rubber as an “opener” on Tuesday against the Rangers. The veteran lefty ran into trouble in the first inning, allowing a double to Corey Seager, which was followed by an RBI single by Josh Smith, and was pulled after pitching a scoreless second. It was the first time all season that Milner went two or more innings, as Tuesday marked his first start of the season and his career. We wouldn’t expect him to draw another start any time soon.   • David Peterson loses command in no decision
    David Peterson allowed one run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Yankees.

    Advice: Peterson also struck out eight but walked five on the day. He was gifted a 6-1 lead, but he was unable to pitch deep enough to get the win as he walked two straight batters after getting the first out in the fifth inning and was removed before facing a right-handed batter. The left-hander had an impressive 31 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW on the day, but he struggled to find the zone with his fastball and now has 10 walks over his last three starts.   • Edward Cabrera fans seven in Triple-A rehab start
    Edward Cabrera (shoulder) struck out seven over four hitless innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville.

    Advice: Cabrera issued two walks and threw 37 of 60 pitches for strikes in his latest rehab outings. The 26-year-old righty, who has been out since early May recovering from a right shoulder impingement, appears to be getting closer to returning to Miami’s injury-depleted starting rotation.   • Graham Ashcraft starting Wednesday vs. Pirates
    Graham Ashcraft will start on Wednesday against the Pirates.

    Advice: Ashcraft will get the call back to the majors to take the ball in place of Nick Lodolo, who landed on the injured list with a blister issue. The 26-year-old righty holds a lackluster 5.05 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 49/21 K/BB ratio across 62 1/3 innings (12 starts) this season in the big leagues. Rotoworld Today, 7:27 pm

    The Reds will recall Ashcraft from Triple-A Louisville to start against the Pirates on Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

    Advice: Ashcraft had been one of the candidates to replace Nick Lodolo (finger) in the Reds' rotation, and it now appears the spot is officially his. Ashcraft was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the month after putting up a 5.05 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 62.1 innings over 12 starts, and he's bounced back nicely with Louisville, giving up four earned runs in 12 innings while striking out 12 batters and walking two. The 26-year-old righty will almost certainly make multiple starts during his stint with the Reds, but he'll likely be pushed back to Triple-A once Lodolo returns from the IL.   • Mitch Keller escapes with win over Reds
    Mitch Keller allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Reds on Tuesday.

    Advice: Keller struck out six and walked three on the day; however, he got just eight whiffs on 48 swings for a 17 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW. Keller’s command was good in this one, which led to 22 called strikes and helped him get through without the most dynamic stuff. He’ll look for a smoother rice against the Cardinals next time out.   • Hunter Greene coughs up six runs to Pirates
    Hunter Greene allowed six runs on seven hits in four innings in a loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.

    Advice: The game started with Greene throwing up on the mound after delivering a first-inning fastball and it didn’t get much better from there. He struck out five and walked two and his velocity was fine on the day, but he clearly wasn’t feeling 100 percent. He posted a solid 27 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW, but the command wasn’t great and the Pirates were able to scratch out their runs on just one extra-base hit.
