    Pirates’ rookie right-hander Paul Skenes was named to his first National League All-Star team on Sunday, despite having logged just 59 1/3 innings at the big-league level.

    Advice: It’s the first of what should be many All-Star game nods for the studly 22-year-old hurler who has gone 5-0 with a 2.12 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a 78/12 K/BB ratio through his first 10 MLB starts. He’ll be joined on the N.L. Lindor continues his resurgence over the last two months, hitting .277/.335/.492 with 10 homers, 34 RBI and 12 stolen bases over his last 58 games.   • Won't return before break
    Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Kelly (shoulder) isn't expected to return from the 60-day injured list until after the All-Star break, the Associated Press reports.

    Advice: Kelly tossed a pair of scoreless innings in his first two rehab appearances for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday and Friday before rejoining the Dodgers in Los Angeles. He tossed a simulated inning Sunday, but Roberts noted that the right-hander wasn't sharp, as he hit two batters during the outing. Roberts hasn't indicated that Kelly will be shut down, so the 36-year-old will presumably link back up with a minor-league affiliate during the upcoming week to make another rehab appearance or two before the Dodgers entertain his return to the bullpen after the break.   • Tosses sim game, rehab start next
    Kershaw (shoulder) threw a two-inning simulated game Sunday in Los Angeles, the Associated Press reports. "It was good to see him throw two innings. We accomplished what we wanted to," manager Dave Roberts said after Kershaw's workout.

    Advice: Kershaw has resided on the injured list all season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder last November, but he looks like he could be ready to make his 2024 debut for the Dodgers at some point within the next month. The 36-year-old had previously made a three-inning rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on June 19, but he was then shut down from throwing for the next week after experiencing lingering soreness in his shoulder. According to Roberts, Kershaw is in line to resume his rehab assignment next Saturday, likely with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Kershaw is expected to cover three innings in that outing, and he's likely to require at least tow rehab starts beyond that one before the Dodgers bring him back from the 60-day IL.   • Ezequiel Tovar goes hitless yet again in loss
    Ezequiel Tovar remained hitless for the month of July after going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against the Royals on Sunday.

    Advice: Tovar was the clear choice to serve as the Rockies’ token All-Star a couple of weeks ago, but he’s been brutal of late, going 6-for-50 with one extra-base hit, one RBI, zero runs scored and a 20/0 K/BB in his last 12 games. It’s dropped his OPS from .808 to .734. Ryan McMahon might now be the best bet to be the Rockies’ All-Star, with Cal Quantrill and last year’s All-Star Game MVP Elias Díaz also in the mix.     Chapman (1-4) blew a save and was tagged with Sunday's loss to the Mets. He allowed two runs on two hits, three walks and two strikeouts in 0.2 innings.

    Advice: Chapman entered with a one-run lead in the ninth but loaded the bases and gave up a go-ahead two-run single to Francisco Lindor. Chapman was erratic with his control as he matched his season-high with three walks and threw 40 pitches, his third-most in an outing in his career.     Hayes went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Mets.

    Advice: Hayes reached base in three of his four at-bats Sunday, as he also reached on an error in addition to a pair of singles. Hayes now has multi-hit games in four of his last eight games, with three steals in that span. The power numbers continue to plague Hayes though, as he's slugging a lowly .299 for the season.   • Francisco Lindor puts Mets ahead in ninth inning
    Francisco Lindor went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, a run scored, and a walk in the Mets’ dramatic 3-2 win over the Pirates.

    Advice: Lindor had another fantastic game. His two-run single in the ninth inning off of Aroldis Chapman put the Mets ahead after just falling behind in the eighth inning. He continues to stack games like this one and his full-season slash line has ticked up to .250/.316/.447 with 26 doubles, 15 homers, and 16 stolen bases after a miserable start to the season.   • Edwin Díaz blows save, earns win against Pirates
    Edwin Díaz worked 1 1/3 innings on Sunday against the Pirates. He allowed one hit, one walk, struck out one batter, blew the save, and wound up with the win.

    Advice: Back from suspension, Díaz was tasked with a four-out save pitching on back-to-back days. He walked the first batter he saw and allowed both of his inherited runners to score. Then, the Mets grabbed the lead and he came back out to pitch a scoreless ninth inning. Díaz clearly isn’t the same pitcher he was in 2022, but the Mets have absolute trust in him as their closer.
