    • Patrick Corbin hurled eight innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against the Marlins on Monday.
Advice: He gave up just two hits, striking out seven and walking one. Corbin was outstanding outside of a two-run mistake Giancarlo Stanton deposited into the left-field seats in the seventh. Corbin remains a perfect 9-0, to go with an outstanding 2.28 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, but Monday marked the first time Arizona has lost one of his starts. The Snakes are now 13-1 with Corbin on the mound in 2013.

    • Patrick Corbin was removed after allowing four runs in five innings Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Advice: Corbin was in line for his first loss when he exited, but the Diamondbacks rallied and ended up winning in 12. It's the second straight outing in which he's left with the Diamondbacks in a hole. However, Arizona remains a perfect 13-0 with him on the mound.

    • Dan Straily was tagged for six runs and two homers in 4 2/3 innings by the Rangers on Monday.
Advice: Straily had turned in a nice run of outings coming into this one -- he went six straight starts without allowing a homer -- so an odd night in Arlington isn't such a bad sign. He'll have a friendlier matchup in Seattle next time out.

    • Dan Straily yielded two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings in a win over the Yankees on Wednesday.
Advice: The A's improved to 8-2 with Straily on the mound this year, though Straily has gotten credit for just half of those victories. He's now gone six straight starts without allowing a homer, which qualifies as a big surprise from a guy who allowed 11 bombs in 39 1/3 innings last year. He will start serving up homers again, but he should remain a quality AL-only starter and a decent option as a spot starter in shallow mixed leagues.

    • Brandon Barnes went 3-for-5 with a couple of steals against the White Sox on Monday.
Advice: Justin Maxwell is expected back in Houston's lineup on Tuesday, but Barnes should remain the team's center fielder, with Maxwell primarily playing right. That doesn't give him much fantasy value -- he's been struggling offensively since his nice April -- but he's an acceptable fifth outfielder in AL-only leagues.

    • Alfonso Soriano went 0-for-4 and committed his fifth error in left field Monday against the Cardinals.
Advice: And this from a guy who said Carlos Marmol used to be good. Soriano is batting .253 and is on pace to finish with 17 homers, 69 RBI and a 138/21 K/BB ratio.

    • Heath Bell was charged with the loss after allowing a ninth inning solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton in a tie game Monday.
Advice: Entering a 2-2 contest in the top of the ninth, Bell struck out Ed Lucas before Stanton homered to right. Bell (4.23 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) has allowed a home run in three consecutive appearances. Consider it a course-correction after he enjoyed some good luck earlier this season. With J.J. Putz (elbow) close to returning, the clock on Bell's reign as closer may be ticking.
      (Rotoworld.com)
  • Thu, Jun 13
    • Heath Bell gave up his second homer in two days Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Advice: Bell was working with a four-run lead, so the fact that he allowed a solo homer and another run didn't cost the Diamondbacks. Still, it's a bit of a concern that he's suddenly allowed homers to Juan Uribe and Ramon Hernandez the last two days. He had gone 25 straight appearances without giving up a homer after allowing two in his season debut April 2.

    • Giancarlo Stanton swatted a pair of home runs and collected all of Miami's RBI in Monday's 3-2 victory against Arizona.
Advice: Stanton's two-run job off Patrick Corbin in the seventh tied the game at two and his homer off Heath Bell in the ninth turned out to be the decisive run. Stanton has hit safely in all seven games since coming off the disabled list and has collected two or more RBI in four of those contests. He's one of the hottest hitters in the game right now.

  • Fri, Jun 14
    • Giancarlo Stanton went 3-for-4 with a two-run double in Friday's win over the Cardinals.
Advice: That's what we like to see. Stanton is now 6-for-18 (.333) with one home run, two doubles and five RBI in four games since coming off the disabled list. Fantasy owners are hopeful that he's ready to make up for lost time.

    • Despite giving up a homer for a second straight outing, Edward Mujica picked up his 20th save in 20 chances Monday in the Cardinals' 5-2 defeat of the Cubs.
Advice: Mujica gave up a homer to Marlon Byrd on Thursday and another to Darwin Barney tonight, but he's yet to allow one in a one-run game. All four homers he's given up this year have been solo shots. It helps a lot that he hasn't walked a batter since April 3.

    • Nelson Cruz homered twice, doubled and knocked in four runs as the Rangers beat the A's 8-7 on Monday.
Advice: Cruz homered off Dan Straily in the fourth and Jesse Chavez in the fifth, giving him 18 bombs for the year. Only Chris Davis (24) and Miguel Cabrera (19) have more in the AL. If Cruz stays healthy, his career high of 33 homers is probably going down.

    • Dayan Viciedo tripled with the bases loaded in the sixth to lead the White Sox to a 4-2 win over the Astros on Monday.
Advice: Viciedo saved the White Sox from what might have been a four-game sweep in Houston. The Astros got all of their runs in the sixth off Bud Norris. The triple was Viciedeo's third in 261 major league games, and it gave him his first multi-RBI game since May 15. That was also the day on which he last homered.

    • Nick Tepesch lasted just 3 2/3 innings and gave up six runs to the A's in a loss Monday.
Advice: Tepesch's time in the rotation may soon come to an end. He's given up 17 runs over 15 2/3 innings in his last three starts, and he hasn't picked up a win since beating Houston on May 12. The Rangers might give him one more chance, but if he doesn't improve, he could be replaced by Martin Perez.

  • Wed, Jun 12
    • Nick Tepesch allowed five runs in five innings in taking the loss against the Indians on Wednesday.
Advice: Tepesch served up eight hits, including two home runs, and a walk in his five innings. He hasn't picked up a win in a month, and the loss dropped him to 3-6 on the year. He'll start again Monday against the Athletics.

    • Jacob Turner allowed two runs on six hits over five innings Monday against the Diamondbacks.
Advice: He struck out five and walked three. The former first-round pick has only allowed six earned runs in four starts, posting a 2.16 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 25 innings. Turner has only one win to show for his efforts, however, an unfortunate occupational hazard of pitching in South Florida.

    • Tigers placed C Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list with a deep contusion on his left forearm.

    • Alex Avila (forearm) is not expected to be in Monday's lineup.
Advice: Avila will miss at least one game after being hit by a pitch Sunday. The Tigers are calling him day-to-day, but a stint on the DL can't be ruled out. He finished 2-for-3 with a run scored before exiting.

  • Sat, Jun 15
    • Alex Avila is batting .166/.265/.280 this season.
Advice: That's through 181 plate appearances. The jig is clearly up in one-catcher mixed leagues, while Avila's .243/.352/.384 2012 slash offers little hope for players in two-catcher formats. Avila's excellent 2011 - where he hit .295/.389/.506 - is looking more and more like the outlier campaign in his five-year career. It wouldn't be stunning if Avila finally started to hit, but there's not a ton of upside in waiting for him to do so.

Advice: No word on how or when the injury occurred, though it's worth noting that he flung a pie in the face of Kirk Nieuwenhuis during the team's post-game celebration on Sunday. Turner, 28, is batting .266/.307/.300 in a utility role with the Mets this season.

    • While the rest of the A's lineup was combining for seven runs, Josh Reddick went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Monday against the Rangers.
Advice: He also committed his third error in right field. The hope was that Reddick turned the corner when he went 4-for-5 with a homer and a triple on Sunday. Perhaps he has, but tonight's 0-for pushed his average back down to .205.

    • Rangers manager Ron Washington said Monday that the club plans to make Jurickson Profar a "functional left fielder."
Advice: While the Rangers were initially expected to send Profar down the minors upon Ian Kinsler's return, they now think they can manage to get him enough at-bats by adding the outfield to his resume. For what it's worth, Anthony Andro of FOX Sports Southwest speculates that he could be game-ready for left field within 7-10 days.

    • Jurickson Profar went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in the Rangers' loss to the Indians on Wednesday.
Advice: It was good timing for the 20-year-old, as his average had dropped to .269 before Wednesday's game, leaving some to speculate he'd again be demoted when Ian Kinsler returns from the disabled list. There's still a chance that happens, but it was reported earlier in the day that the Rangers were discussing the possibility of keeping him around as a utility infielder. The three-hit night makes his case that much stronger once Kinsler does return.

    • Drew Smyly pitched three perfect innings for his second career save Monday in a 5-1 game against the Orioles.
Advice: Under other circumstances, we'd question Jim Leyland leaving his best or second best reliever in to throw three innings in a four-run game. Smyly, though, needed just 33 pitches to get his nine outs, so he may need only one day off before he's ready to work again.

Advice: Marte was held out of the starting lineup (and has not started a game since last Wednesday) due to soreness in his left rib cage, but the issue is obviously improving. Marte, 24, is batting .287/.355/.422 with six home runs and 20 stolen bases in 64 games this year.
