  • Mets to pick up Jose Reyes' 2017 option
Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports that the Mets are expected to pick up Jose Reyes' option for 2017.

Advice: When the Mets signed Reyes to a minor league deal in June following his release by the Rockies, they had an option for 2017 at the veteran minimum $507,500 included in the deal. The Rockies are still responsible for the $41 million the infielder is owed over the next three years. Reyes batted .267/.326/.443 with eight homers and nine steals over 60 games for the Mets. He would offer protection at third base for David Wright (neck) next season. Sunday, 6:18 am

  • Dodgers unlikely to break the bank for Turner
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that while the Dodgers "love" impending free agent Justin Turner, they could let him walk if another team bids big on him.

Advice: Heyman says that the Dodgers "are very cognizant of age generally" and if another team blows Turner away with an offer, "it’s no certainty they’ll match it." Turner, who will turn 32 in a month, hit an excellent .296/.364/.492 in his three years in Los Angeles and slugged a career-high 27 home runs in 2016. The Dodgers will extend him a qualifying offer, so they'll recoup a draft pick if they lose him. Sunday, 5:28 am

  • Baez and Lester share NLCS MVP honors
Javier Baez and Jon Lester were named Co-MVPs of the 2016 NLCS.

Advice: Baez went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and an error in Saturday's series-clincher but he provided plenty of heroics in the other five games. He hit .318 for the series with four RBI including three in the Cubs’ Game 5 victory. Meanwhile Lester won both of his starts against the Dodgers while recording a minuscule 1.38 ERA. Lester will start Game 1 of the World Series on normal rest Tuesday night in Cleveland. Saturday, 8:25 pm

  • Nationals could bring back Stephen Drew
Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports believes there is "mutual interest" in Stephen Drew returning to the Nationals next season.

Advice: Drew enjoyed a solid second half (.308 AVG after the break) and has been a leader in the Nats' clubhouse. His return will depend on how the Nats plan on using Trea Turner, who played almost exclusively in center field this year but spent most of his minor league career at shortstop. If Turner moves back to shortstop, the Nats would likely keep Danny Espinosa as a backup infielder, eliminating the need for Drew. Saturday, 3:29 pm

  • Javier Baez says he feels fine after Game 5
Javier Baez said after Game 5 of the NLCS that he feels fine.

Advice: Baez felt something in his ankle after rounding second base on his bases-clearing double in the eighth inning, but he stayed in the game and told reporters after that he's 100 percent. He should be good to go for Game 6 on Saturday in Chicago. Thursday, 10:34 pm

  • Javy Baez hits bases-clearing double in win
Javier Baez went 3-for-5 with a bases-clearing double, a run scored, and a stolen base in a win over the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLCS on Thursday.

Advice: The Cubs had a four-run lead when Baez came up with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth and he put the game to bed with a drive which nearly went over the right-center field fence. He gave the Cubs a bit of a scare when he came up hobbled after changing his mind about going for a triple, but fortunately he felt well enough to stay in the ballgame. Baez has arguably been the breakout star of the postseason. In addition to his excellent defense, he’s batting .371/.395/.571 across nine games. Thursday, 9:28 pm

  • Justin Turner picks up two-run single in loss
Justin Turner went 1-for-3 with a two-run single in Wednesday's 10-2 loss to the Cubs in Game 4 of the NLCS.

Advice: Turner came through with a two-run single in the fifth inning to draw the Dodgers to within 5-2. The Cubs then roared back with a five-run sixth to essentially end the possibility of any true comeback drama. The 31-year-old third baseman has picked up a hit in three of four games this series. He belted a solo home run in Game 3 for his lone LCS homer. Wednesday, 9:21 pm

  • Ramirez hitting fifth in Game 5 of ALCS
Jose Ramirez will hit fifth in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Marco Estrada is on the hill for Toronto, so Indians manager Terry Francona is using his standard lineup against right-handers. The only change is that Carlos Santana is at first base while Mike Napoli will DH. Ramirez has just one hit in 13 at-bats during the ALCS. The full lineup for Cleveland: Santana 1B, Jason Kipnis 2B, Francisco Lindor SS, Napoli DH, Ramirez 3B, Lonnie Chisenhall RF, Coco Crisp LF, Tyler Naquin CF, Roberto Perez C. Ryan Merritt is starting for Cleveland as they try to punch their ticket to the World Series. Wednesday, 9:53 am

  • Donaldson homers, Jays stay alive in Gm. 4
Josh Donaldson slugged a solo home run Tuesday in the Blue Jays' 5-1 ALCS Game 4 win over the Indians.

Advice: It was a two-out shot to left-center that opened the game's scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Donaldson also drew an intentional walk ahead of Edwin Encarnacion's two-run single in the bottom of the seventh and made a couple of fantastic plays on defense. The star third baseman is batting .438/.486/.719 this postseason. Toronto remains alive in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series. Tuesday, 4:19 pm
  • James Beresford outrighted to Triple-A
Twins sent INF James Beresford outright to Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: The club now has an extra 40-man roster spot to play with. Beresford made his major league debut late this season with the Twins, picking up five hits in 22 at-bats. Oct 17, 3:34 pm

  • Dodgers have talked deal with Justin Turner
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports the Dodgers have had "very preliminary contract talks" with impending free agent Justin Turner.

Advice: Turner is sure to test the free agent market after the World Series -- one of the weakest free agent markets in recent memory -- but the Dodgers could definitely win those sweepstakes. Turner is having a big postseason for Los Angeles and he batted .275/.339/.493 with 27 home runs and 90 RBI in 151 games during the regular season. Long underrated, the 31-year-old third baseman is about to get paid in a big way. Oct 17, 9:57 am

  • Figueroa elects to become free agent
Cole Figueroa has elected free agency.

Advice: Figueroa batted .154 with a .339 OPS in 23 games this season for the Marlins. The 29-year-old infielder is a .208/.250/.286 career hitter at the major league level. Oct 17, 8:57 am

  • Javier Baez breaks up perfect game on Sunday
Javier Baez broke up Clayton Kershaw's bid for a perfect game with a two-out single in the fifth inning of Sunday's Game 2 of the NLCS.

Advice: His single was followed by another from teammate Willson Contreras, which proved to be the club's only two hits in the entire contest. Baez also showed off his baseball IQ in the sixth inning, letting a weak line drive drop in front of him at second base and turning it into an inning-ending 4-6-5-6 double play. With his 1-for-3 effort on Sunday, Baez is now hitting .391/.417/.609 on the postseason. Oct 16, 8:03 pm

  • Kris Bryant chips in with two hits in Game 1
Kris Bryant ripped two hits in the Cubs' win over the Dodgers Saturday in Game 1 of the NLCS.

Advice: Bryant’s first hit of the night came on a fly to left field in the first inning. It looked like Howie Kendrick had it sized up against the ivy but instead it went over his head. Dexter Fowler came around to score all the way from first base as Bryant cruised into second for a double. Bryant also added a double in the eighth inning off Joe Blanton. The MVP frontrunner has continued his success in the playoffs, hitting .400 with a homer and four RBI across 20 postseason at-bats. Oct 15, 9:06 pm

  • Baez steals home in Cubs' Game 1 victory
Javier Baez broke out for two hits and a stolen base in the Cubs' win over the Dodgers Saturday in Game 1 of the NLCS.

Advice: Another day, another dazzling performance from Baez, who is quickly becoming the breakout star of this year’s postseason. Baez stole the show in the second inning by plating Jason Heyward on a double to right field. The hit would have been a single for most players but Baez motored into second to secure the two-bagger. Later in the inning Baez made a move toward home on a failed suicide squeeze, hesitated, then stole the base after catcher Carlos Ruiz made an ill-advised throw to third base. In doing so, Baez became the first Cub to steal home in the postseason since 1907. Baez added a double in the sixth inning for good measure. He’s hit .400 with a homer, three RBI and five runs this postseason. Oct 15, 9:02 pm

  • Donaldson a bright spot in loss to Cleveland
Josh Donaldson went 1-for-4 with an RBI double Saturday in the Blue Jays' loss to the Indians in Game 2 of the ALCS.

Advice: Donaldson drove in the Blue Jays’ only run of the afternoon on an opposite-field double in the third inning. It was Donaldson’s six double of the playoffs, which set a Blue Jays postseason record. The reigning AL MVP has gone absolutely berserk this postseason, hitting .462 with an unheard of 1.174 OPS over five games. Unfortunately for Donaldson, the Blue Jays are heading back to Toronto down 0-2 against an Indians team that hasn’t lost since the regular season. Oct 15, 4:33 pm
