  • Wong (shoulder) returns with pinch-hit 3B
Kolten Wong (shoulder) hit a pinch-hit leadoff triple in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday, but the Cardinals weren't able to drive him in and fell 2-1 to the Reds.

Advice: Wong was held out of the starting lineup yet again with shoulder discomfort, but his swing looked free and easy as he launched a ball off the top of the right field wall at Busch Stadium. He flew around the bases before sliding feet-first into third. But that is where Wong would remain, with Reds closer Raisel Iglesias inducing two groundouts and a shallow outfield fly from the Cardinals' next three batters. Wong should be able to make a start or two over St. Louis' final four regular season games. Rotoworld.com 55 minutes ago

  • Odor smokes 32nd homer of the season
Rougned Odor went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in a win over the Brewers on Wednesday.

Advice: His homer was the Rangers' second two-run dinger of the first inning. Odor has done amazing things for a 22-year-old this season. He has a .270 batting average with 32 home runs, 87 RBI and 88 runs scored in 148 games. He has chipped in 14 stolen bases as well. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:11 pm
  • Villar hits lead-off home run on Wednesday
Jonathan Villar went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Rangers.

Advice: He led off the game with a solo shot to center field and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. His .285 batting average has cooled a bit as he was over .300 for a good chunk of the season. He has 19 home runs, 63 RBI and 91 runs scored. Villar leads the major leagues with 60 stolen bases. • Prado smokes a two-run bomb Wednesday
Martin Prado went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss to the Mets.

Advice: His first-inning blast gave the Marlins an early lead but they couldn't hang on. He has a stellar .305 batting average although his counting stats lag behind. He has hit just eight home runs to go with 75 RBI and 69 runs scored. The batting average is nice but he doesn't do enough of the other things to make himself a quality fantasy player. • Chris Owings steals pair of bases in victory
Chris Owings went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two steals in Wednesday's rain-shortened win over the Nationals.

Advice: Owings and leadoff hitter Jean Segura combined to collect five of the Diamondbacks' eight hits on the watery evening. The five-inning game was called following a long delay. With the two steals, Owings has swiped an even 20 on the season. That mark tops the career-best 18 that he notched in 2015. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:13 pm
  • Rendon picks up pair of singles in defeat
Anthony Rendon went 2-for-2 with two singles in Wednesday's rain-shortened loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Nationals were unable to scratch out a run over five innings, at which point the heavens opened. The game would be called in the Diamondbacks' favor after a lengthy delay. For his part, Rendon is now hitting .272/.350/.450 with 19 homers and 84 RBI over the course of 556 at-bats. He has also stolen 12 bases. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:57 pm

Chris Coghlan left Wednesday's game against the Pirates due to a mild left ankle sprain.

Advice: Coghlan injured himself when he ran into the outfield wall while tracking a fly ball in the fifth inning. He was subsequently replaced in left field by Albert Almora, but looks like he has avoided major injury. Consider Coghlan day-to-day moving forward. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 6:56 pm

Chris Coghlan was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Pirates due to an apparent left leg injury.

Advice: Coghlan collided with the outfield wall while chasing down a fly ball in the fifth inning. He walked off under his own power while Albert Almora came on to replace him in left field. The Cubs should provide a further update on Coghlan's injury late Wednesday night. It didn't look like anything too serious. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 5:56 pm

Kolten Wong will test his injured shoulder in pregame batting practice on Wednesday.

Advice: Wong did not play in Tuesday's game against the Reds and he's out of the starting lineup Wednesday, but it sounds like he should be available off the bench for the Wild Card-hunting Redbirds. • Chase Utley cracks solo home run in defeat
Chase Utley went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Padres.

Advice: Utley rocked a solo homer in the third inning. At the time, it drew the Dodgers to within 3-1. They wouldn't score again in the game. For the season, the veteran second baseman is slashing .254/.323/.396 with 13 homers and 51 RBI over 503 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 10:54 pm
  • LeMahieu whiffs three times in loss to Giants
DJ LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts in Tuesday's loss to the Giants.

Advice: LeMahieu simply couldn't square up Matt Moore, though the same could be said for just about everybody on the Rockies. For the season, the 28-year-old second baseman is slashing .349/.418/.496 with 11 homers, 66 RBI and 11 steals over 550 at-bats. This has been a career-year for LeMahieu in a number of statistical categories, including home runs, RBI and batting average. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 10:31 pm
  • Aledmys Diaz honors JF16 with grand slam
Aledmys Diaz paid tribute to his friend Jose Fernandez on Tuesday, hitting a grand slam en route to the Cardinals' 12-5 drubbing of the Reds.

Advice: Diaz, who was away from the Cardinals on Monday to be with Fernandez's family in Miami, smacked a Robert Stephenson fastball into the left-center field bleachers to give the Cardinals a 5-2 lead in the bottom fourth inning Tuesday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. As he touched home plate he pointed to the sky in remembrance of his boyhood friend, and again Diaz gestured to the heavens after a curtain call from Cardinals fans. The 26-year-old shortstop will surely be playing with a heavy heart for as long as the Cards stay in it, but Tuesday was a moment he likely won't forget. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 10:13 pm

  • Altuve's two hits widen batting title lead
Jose Altuve went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Advice: Altuve stretched his insurmountable lead in the race for the American League batting title by knocking the pair of hits, and he's now batting .339/.397/.538 in 157 games. The next-closest hitter in the AL is David Ortiz, who is hitting .318 after Tuesday's game. Altuve's 28 steals are also tops in the AL, and he's seventh in runs with 107. The 26-year-old has already set personal bests with 24 homers and 96 RBI as well. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:34 pm
  • Brandon Phillips day-to-day with hand injury
Brandon Phillips left Tuesday night's game in St. Louis after suffering a left hand injury.

Advice: X-rays were negative, but even minor injuries can be season-enders at this point. Phillips was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and an RBI sac fly Tuesday before exiting. He's sitting on a .291/.320/.416 batting line in 141 games played. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:19 pm

  • Anthony Rendon smashes three-run homer
Anthony Rendon delivered a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning of Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Nationals fell into an early hole with the D'Backs plating single runs in the first and third, but they were able to bunch together two hits, two walks and four runs in the sixth, punctuated by Rendon's bomb. The third baseman now has 19 dingers on the season and has five games left to get No. 20. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 6:59 pm

  • Marlins, Prado agree to three-year extension
Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins and Martin Prado have agreed to a three-year, $40 million extension.

Advice: Prado was previously due to hit a weak free agent market this winter, but he's now locked up through his age-35 season in 2019. Acquired from the Yankees in December of 2014, Prado has hit .297/.350/.405 over two seasons with Miami and has emerged as a clubhouse leader. The Marlins made it a top priority to keep him in the fold and they were successful. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:17 am
  • Jonathan Villar homers twice against Rangers
Jonathan Villar homered twice, doubled and knocked in five runs to lead the Brewers past the Rangers 8-3 on Monday.

Advice: That's not so good for the old stolen base numbers there, Jonathan. Still, he's up to 18 homers this year after hitting 10 over 589 at-bats in parts of three seasons with the Astros. There was no doubt he'd steal a whole bunch of bases if the playing time was to be had, but the power outburst didn't seem so likely. Rotoworld.com Monday, 9:21 pm
  • Jean Segura slugs two homers in D'Backs rout
Jean Segura clubbed a pair of home runs and drove in three in Monday's blowout win over the Nationals.

Advice: Segura got the scoring starting for the D'Backs with a solo shot in the fourth and then added a two-run shot in the eighth. He also had a single on the night. A lot of things have gone wrong for Arizona this season, but Segura certainly hasn't been one of them. He's up to a career-high 19 home runs and is just four hits shy of a 200-hit campaign.
