• Returns to bench Wednesday
Canario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Canario is back on the bench Wednesday after going 1-for-2 at the dish in Tuesday's 4-2 loss. He's now been excluded from the lineup five times in the past six games and doesn't look as though he'll benefit much from the absences of fellow outfielders Cody Bellinger (ribs) and Seiya Suzuki (oblique). • IL stint possible
McCormick's hamstring is still bothering him Wednesday, and the Astros are considering placing him on the injured list, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: No official move has been made just yet, but manager Joe Espada said there have been conversations about whether or not to put the 29-year-old on the shelf. McCormick will not start Wednesday's game against the Guardians but is available to hit, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, despite still having issues with his hamstring. Joey Loperfido will instead get the nod in left field and bat eighth. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • Could begin rehab assignment soon
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Burdi (hip) could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment soon, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: Placed on the 15-day injured list April 19 with right hip inflammation, Burdi doesn't look as though he'll be in store for an especially lengthy stint on the shelf. Burdi struck out eight over 6.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen prior to being placed on the IL. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

  • Without timeline for mound work
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Cole had a "heavy day" of throwing off flat ground Tuesday, but the skipper is unsure when the right-hander will be ready to throw a bullpen session, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Cole has been playing catch multiple times per week for about two weeks while steadily increasing his throwing distance. He hasn't hit any reported snags in his recovery since resuming his throwing program, but it's not yet clear when Cole will be able to take the next meaningful step forward in his recovery from his right elbow injury by getting back on the mound. Boone also declined to speculate if a return before the All-Star break is realistic for Cole, who is eligible to be activated May 25 after opening the season on the 60-day injured list. • Held out with back issue
Manager Aaron Boone said Berti (groin) won't play in a scheduled rehab game with Double-A Somerset on Wednesday after his back locked up on him, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Advice: The hope is that it's only a one-day absence for Berti, but that wouldn't seem to be a given. He's played two games with Somerset already as he comes back from a groin strain. Berti had potentially been looking at a return from the 10-day injured list this weekend, but that might be delayed now. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Colin Rea blanks Rays for six innings in win
Colin Rea shut out the Rays for six innings for his third victory as the Brewers prevailed 7-1 on Wednesday.

Advice: Rea’s strikeout rate is just 16% and his velocity is down about one mph from last year, but he has a 2.67 ERA after six starts anyway and the Brewers are 5-1 when he pitches. We’d still typically suggest staying away in mixed leagues, but he’s probably looking at a two-start week against the Royals and Cardinals, which is sort of tempting. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

  • Zach Eflin gives up three runs in defeat
Zach Eflin dropped to 1-4 after giving up three runs in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Brewers.

Advice: Eflin struck out six and walked none. The big blow was a William Contreras two-run double on a pitch a good four inches inside with two outs in the second. Another batter likely would have fouled that one off, but Contreras is just too good. Fortunately, Eflin won’t face anyone like him with the White Sox coming to town next week. • Willy Adames hits two homers versus former club
Willy Adames hit a pair of homers to drive in four runs against his former team in a win over the Rays on Wednesday.

Advice: Adames has three homers and eight RBI the last two days. It looked like he might bat lower in the order than usual this year, and he did hit fifth against the Mets on Opening Day. However, he’s hit fourth or higher every game since, and he’s now up to 21 RBI in 30 games for the season. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago

  • Sal Frelick goes 0-for-5 against Rays
Sal Frelick went 0-for-5 as the Brewers’ leadoff man on Wednesday.

Advice: Power wasn’t always going to be an issue for Frelick, but one imagined there’s be some gains from his rookie season. Instead, he’s homerless in 116 plate appearances, and he has both a lower walk rate and a higher strikeout rate than last year. It’ll be interesting to see who heats up first between him and Jackson Chourio, since one of the two might be in line for a demotion at some point. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
