• D-backs get Matt Bowman from Twins in trade
Diamondbacks acquired RHP Matt Bowman from the Twins for cash considerations.

Advice: Bowman heads to Arizona shortly after being designated for assignment earlier this week by Minnesota. The 32-year-old reliever made five relief appearances for the Twins after being brought up back in mid-April from Triple-A St. Paul. He’ll fortify the Diamondbacks’ injury-depleted bullpen. • Headed to Arizona
The Twins traded Bowman to the Diamondbacks for cash considerations Thursday.

Advice: Bowman was designated for assignment by the Twins on Tuesday to make room for Jhoan Duran. Bowman appeared in five games for Minnesota this season, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out six over 7.2 innings. To make room for Bowman, the Diamondbacks optioned southpaw Blake Walston to Triple-A Reno, while Merrill Kelly (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list. • Justin Lawrence heads to paternity list
Rockies placed RHP Justin Lawrence on the paternity list.

Advice: Lawrence will be away from the club for the next few days on paernity leave. The 29-year-old righty has a pair of saves this season to go along with a calamitous 7.20 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 10/5 K/BB ratio across 10 innings (11 appearances). Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:27 pm
  • Expected to go on paternity list
The Rockies are set to place Lawrence on the paternity list for Colorado's upcoming series against Pittsburgh, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Advice: With Lawrence expected to miss the upcoming series, the Rockies will likely turn to Jake Bird for save situations. Lawrence has two saves over 11 games this season with a 7.20 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 10 innings. Right-hander Angel Chivilli is expected to be called up from Double-A Hartford due to Lawrence being on the paternity list. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:25 pm
  • Phillies outright Ricardo Pinto to Triple-A
Phillies sent RHP Ricardo Pinto outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Pinto has the option to elect free agency, but could wind up sticking around as extra organizational relief depth. The 30-year-old righty made it back to the majors this year for the first time since 2019, getting into six contests for the Phillies before being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster. • Cleared to start Friday
Hicks (side) is listed as the Giants' probable starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Advice: Hicks contended with side tightness during his most recent outing against the Pirates last Saturday, when he struck out a season-high nine over six innings while allowing one earned run on five hits and no walks. The injury apparently didn't hinder him during his between-starts bullpen session, so he's on track to take the hill for the seventh time this season Friday. After pitching exclusively in relief between stops with St. Louis and Toronto in 2023, Hicks has performed even better than the Giants could have imagined after signing him to a four-year, $44 million deal this winter with the plan of converting him to a full-time starting role. Through his first six turns through the rotation, Hicks has delivered two wins to go with a 1.59 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB in 34 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:31 pm

  • Another start on tap
Wesneski is slated to start Friday's series opener against the Brewers in Chicago.

Advice: He'll be making his second straight turn through the rotation after Jordan Wicks (forearm) recently joined Kyle Hendricks (back) and Justin Steele (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list. In his first start of the season this past Sunday in Boston, Wesneski gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out three over four innings. • Camilo Doval picks up sixth save against Red Sox
Camilo Doval struck out a batter in a scoreless inning of work while picking up a save Thursday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Doval is now up to six saves on the season. The right-hander didn’t allow a hit while picking up a strikeout, and he pounded the zone with 11-of-14 pitches going for strikes. Doval has had some shaky moments in 2024, but the right-hander remains locked into a closing role for a team that should provide plenty of opportunities. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:16 pm
  • Josh Winckowski surrenders one run over 4 1/3
Josh Winckowski held the Giants to one run while going 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday.

Advice: He walked two and wasn’t able to pick up a strikeout. It was far from a dominant start for Winckowski, but the 25-year-old was mostly effective even without much swing-and-miss. The only run came on a solo homer from Mike Yastrzemski in the third. Winckowski has been able to get the job done in his last two starts, but he has yet to go deep enough to qualify for a victory. That along with the quality of the Atlanta lineup makes him a risky streaming option against the Bravos next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:16 pm
