    • Freddie Freeman collects two hits, scores run in loss
      Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk against the Giants on Wednesday.

      Advice: Freeman drew a walk in the third inning, then knocked a base hit in the fifth. He reached for a third time with a single to lead off the eighth and came around to score on a single and a sacrifice fly.     • Camilo Doval secures seventh save vs. Dodgers
      Camilo Doval struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning for the save against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

      Advice: Doval was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth. He struck out the first two batters, then walked Mookie Betts before giving up a base hit to Shohei Ohtani.     • Marcus Stroman twirls six scoreless innings
      Marcus Stroman held the Twins scoreless across six innings on Wednesday earning the win. He allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out two.

      Advice: Stroman wasn’t particularly sharp in this one with just two strikeouts and three walks. The Twins also had 10 hard hit balls, seven of which were hit in the air, but they couldn’t sustain any type of rally.     • Javier Assad cruises through six to beat Braves
      Javier Assad continued his strong season with six scoreless innings in the Cubs’ 7-1 victory in Atlanta. He struck out seven, allowed four hits, and just one walk earning the win.

      Advice: Unfazed by the Braves’ daunting lineup, Assad was in complete control in this one. Only one runner reached scoring position and he lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.49, good for the fourth-lowest among all starting pitchers. He’s lined up for a rematch with the Braves on Monday.     • Continues to shine as starter
      Assad (4-0) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against Atlanta. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.

      Advice: Assad has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in all nine of his starts this season, which has allowed him to compile a stellar 1.49 ERA across 48.1 innings. The young righty was effective as a long reliever last year and it was uncertain in spring training if he'd be able to grab a rotation spot, but at this point, it would seem unlikely that he's moved back to the bullpen given his strong play. Assad will look to keep rolling as a starter in his next scheduled outing, which is penciled in for Tuesday against this same Atlanta squad. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:24 pm

    • Cleared to start Sunday
      Lopez (back) is slated to start Sunday's game against the Padres in Atlanta, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

      Advice: The right-hander dealt with back tightness in his most recent start Monday against the Cubs and was lifted after five scoreless innings, but he's apparently feeling better two days later. Assuming he's able to make it out of his between-starts bullpen session without incident, Lopez shouldn't face any major workload restrictions when he toes the rubber Sunday. After spending most of the last two seasons as a reliever, Lopez has exceeded expectations with his move to a starting role in his first year in Atlanta, going 2-1 with a 1.34 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB in 40.1 innings through his first seven outings.     • Bryan Woo fans five in victory over Royals
      Bryan Woo was terrific in Wednesday’s victory over the Royals, striking out five batters over 5 1/3 innings of one-run baseball.

      Advice: The 24-year-old right-hander scattered just three hits and one walk on the afternoon. The lone tally against him came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bobby Witt Jr. in the sixth inning. Woo generated 13 swings and misses on 79 pitches on the afternoon — eight of those on his heater which averaged 95.1 mph — while posting a CSW of 29 percent.     • Moves to 60-day IL
      The Rangers transferred Scherzer (back/arm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

      Advice: Scherzer surprisingly avoided the 60-day IL to begin the season after the Rangers were encouraged enough by his recovery from his Dec. 15 back surgery during spring training to keep the door open for him to make his 2024 debut before May 27. Though Scherzer remained on track to meet the Rangers' goal as recently as a few weeks ago, it became clear that his absence would extend into June after he dealt with a thumb issue coming out of his first rehab start April 24 with Triple-A Round Rock. He hasn't been able to do much activity ever since, but he'll play light catch Wednesday while he contends with a nerve issue in addition to ramping back up from his herniated disc surgery. Fortunately for Scherzer, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com relays that the right-hander has had MRIs on his triceps, elbow and neck that all returned clean, so the nerve problem is believed to be something that he'll be able to manage.       Advice: Scherzer is dealing with a nerve problem which has affected his throwing arm. He was given a cortisone injection in his right thumb to combat the issue, but it's something he might just have to learn to pitch through. Scherzer revealed that he underwent MRIs on his triceps, elbow and neck to make sure there wasn't something else going on, and all of those tests came back negative. The righty had begun a rehab assignment last month, but he's been shut down for a couple weeks with the nerve issue. Scherzer initially went on the IL after offseaon back surgery.
