    • Double, homer in win
      Castro went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over Arizona while also being hit by a pitch.

      Advice: Castro was hit by a pitch in his second at-bat and responded with a leadoff double on the first pitch in his next trip to the plate, before then coming home on a double from Trevor Larnach. The utility man would add a two-run homer in the fifth to increase Minnesota's lead to seven runs, giving him two homers over his last five games. Castro has also hit safely in nine straight, posting multiple hits in five of those contests. He's batting .405 (15-for-37) over that stretch with eight RBI and nine runs scored.       Advice: Alvarez touched up Yankees starter Luis Gil for a two-run homer in the third inning and added a run-scoring double in the fifth. The catcher also singled for his third three-hit performance during his current nine-game hitting streak.       Gil (9-3) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings.

      Advice: Gil was stung by both hard hits and walks -- three of the four knocks he allowed went for extra bases, and he also surrendered four free passes. His final two walks were particularly detrimental, as both runners came around to score following his departure. Gil has now put forward two straight poor outings, giving up 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his past two starts. He had a 2.02 ERA and was being mentioned in discussions about AL Cy Young Award contenders after a June 14 win against Boston, but his subsequent struggles have increased is ERA by over a run to 3.15.       Advice: Henderson knocked in Baltimore's first two runs with a single in the second inning and a solo shot to center field in the fifth. The talented young shortstop has gone deep eight times over 24 games in June, including four times across his past six contests. Henderson ranks second in the majors with 26 homers through 79 games on the campaign and needs just two more long balls to match the 28 home runs he belted over 150 contests last year.       Advice: After getting hit by a pitch in the second inning, Castro led off the fourth with a double before scoring on a double by Trevor Larnach. Castro then took Brandon Hughes deep for a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the Twins lead.     • Francisco Álvarez unstoppable in win
      Francisco Álvarez went 3-for-3 with a home run, double, walk, three runs scored, and three RBI in the Mets’ 12-2 win over the Yankees.

      Advice: It’s very easy to forget that Álvarez is only 22-years-old. It’s even easier to forget he just missed nearly two months with a torn ligament in his left thumb.     • Luis Gil struggles again in loss
      Luis Gil labored through 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday against the Mets. He allowed five earned runs with four walks and just two strikeouts.

      Advice: There’s been a hard shift in Gil’s season over the past week. He gave up 18 ER in his first 80 innings and 12 ER in his last 5 2/3 frames. He looked uncomfortable and weirdly enough, these last two starts he threw his lowest percentage of fastballs and two of his three highest percentages of changeups in any start this season. It’s important to note that he threw only 136 2/3 innings between 2021 and 2023, so the 85 2/3 he’s already thrown this season are already substantial given his lengthy injury history.
