Advice: Sanchez, a Rule 5 pick, has been on the disabled list for a little over a month with a lower back strain and is seven games into a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. If he goes unclaimed, he will be offered back to the Angels.

- Phillies placed 2B Chase Utley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a mild oblique strain.(Rotoworld.com)
Advice: General manager Ruben Amaro described the strain as "very mild," so, all things considered, it's pretty good news for the Phils. Amaro is hopeful that Utley will be ready when his two weeks are up, but it's possible he could be out as long as four weeks. Freddy Galvis will function as the primary second baseman while Utley is out. The team will make a corresponding move prior to Friday's game.

- Chase Utley (rib cage) will undergo an MRI on Thursday.(Rotoworld.com)
Advice: Utley was scratched from Tuesday's lineup after he felt pain and a burning sensation in his right rib cage after taking a swing during batting practice. Rib cage and oblique injuries tend to linger, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him land on the disabled list at this point. Get a backup plan in place in fantasy leagues.

Advice: With two homers and three doubles among his 13 hits in his last eight games, Gyorko is really coming along now; his average is up to .283 and all five of his homers have come in May. We don't expect him to keep his average up this high -- he strikes out a bit too much right now -- but he's a solid play in mixed leagues.

Advice: Maybe more patience would be warranted if Espinosa were healthy, but it's quite possible he needs surgery for the partial rotator cuff tear he suffered last year. Besides, he's just killing the Nationals offense right now. Not only is he batting .159, but he's walked just three times all year. His OBP stands at .186.

Advice: Rutledge's recent slump and LeMahieu's .412/.444/.529 batting line early on, along with his solid defense, has convinced the Rockies to make a change. LeMahieu is a .294 career hitter over 125 games, but he offers next to nothing in the power and speed departments, making him worthy of picking up only in NL-only formats.

Advice: We can hardly blame Hechavarria for not getting a hit against Cliff Lee, but his 0-for-4's have hardly been a rare occurrence. The slick-fielding shortstop had a seven-RBI game earlier this month shortly after returning from the disabled list, but his offense has pretty much been non-existent otherwise.

Advice: Manager Walt Weiss indicated recently that he was going to stick with Rutledge through his slump, but evidently he had a change of heart. The second baseman sports just a .242/.298/.357 batting line for the season and is hitting only .206/.250/.294 over his last 11 games. The Rox appeared poised to go with D.J. LeMahieu at second base for now.

Advice: Prado is still hitting for a better average this month and he did in April, but that's not saying much. He's gone 12 straight games without scoring a run. He has two runs scored and four RBI in 20 games overall for the month. And not only is his season OBP a lousy .283, but he's been caught on three of his four steal attempts. Good thing the Diamondbacks gave him that four-year, $40 million deal before some team could blow them out of the water this winter.

Advice: Forsythe has been taking batting practice for a week with no issues and is ready to take the next step. He's been out all season with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, so he'll need plenty of rehab at-bats before returning.

Advice: Descalso's slam followed an intentional walk to Jon Jay. Descalso entered the game with an ugly .197/.265/.289 line, and he probably wouldn't have been in the lineup if not for David Freese's thumb injury. The home run was his seventh in 813 major league at-bats.

Advice: Ho-hum, just another multi-hit night for the hottest hitter in the game. Scutaro now has a 16-game hitting streak and has raised his batting average from .215 to .327 in the process. The 37-year-old is not going to provide much in the way of pop or speed, but keep running him out there in all formats until he cools down.

Advice: If his slash numbers hold, Herrera will finish with the best offensive season of his career, topping the .694 OPS he mustered in 2010. Unfortunately, the utility infielder has scuffled in the field recently, recording three errors in his last 12 games.

Advice: Lowrie pounded the ball in April, batting .333 with a .938 OPS and 15 RBI in 102 plate appearances. The 29-year-old suffered a strained neck at the end of the month and hasn't been the same since, batting .232/.328/.286 with no homers, four RBI and one run scored over 56 May plate appearances. It's possible that the oft-injured infielder is trying to play through a malady that would be better treated by rest.

Advice: Beckham played shortstop in college and as a prospect, but he has never done so in the majors. Of course, Alexei Ramirez is in the second year of a four-year, $32.5 million contract, so there would have to be an injury or a trade for him to get a look there with the big club. Still, it's an interesting development. Beckham is hitting .462 (6-for-13) with one double and two RBI over three rehab games and should be activated this weekend.

Advice: Beckham went 2-for-4 on Saturday in his rehab debut and is looking ready to rejoin the White Sox. But since he's been out so long -- over five weeks -- the second baseman will likely remain on the farm until Friday.

Advice: Altuve left Octagon about a year ago to align himself with Boras, but he has had a change of heart. The 23-year-old second baseman won't be arbitration-eligible for the first time until after the 2014 season and is under team control through 2017, so the Astros have plenty of time to discuss a potential extension. However, the switch from Boras to Octagon likely increases the chance of getting a deal done.

Advice: Altuve was on the bereavement list for the past five days, but it didn't show in his first game back. Altuve just continued to hit, raising his average to .342 in the process. The only reason he doesn't get the attention given to other star second basemen is the fact that he plays for the Astros. Fantasy players know his skill level.

Advice: Weeks offered to learn the position in hopes that it would give him a better chance to be called up. He's actually appeared in more games as a shortstop (14) than he has as a second baseman (12) for Sacramento, and River Cats manager Steve Scarsone has told Bob Melvin that Weeks is "very playable" at the position. Weeks is batting .285/.413/.376 with two homers and eight steals at Triple-A.

Advice: After a down year in 2012, Johnson is now hitting .273/.345/.508 on the year with eight home runs and 25 RBI. The 31-year-old has seen time at second base and in the outfield this season, and his versatility means he's in the lineup more often than not. He looks on track for a bounceback season.

Advice: Hairston is on the DL with a left groin strain, but it appears that the knee might be a bigger issue at the moment. However, he still played in an extended spring training game Monday, so it appears that it's not a significant setback. He could still be ready to return before the end of the month.

Advice: Hairston was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a left groin strain, but he's now dealing with a knee issue. The setback means that he won't be activated from the DL next week when first eligible. The Dodgers are expected to send Hairston on a rehab assignment before he's cleared to return.

Advice: He hasn't played since May 13 and owns an ugly .170 OPS in 18 plate appearances this month. Getz has never been much of a hitter, but his .193/.221/.301 slash line in 2013 resets the bar to a new low. Kansas City is making due with Elliot Johnson and Miguel Tejada at second, which tells you all you need to know about their opinion of Getz. With additional help on the way from the farm, Getz may have just squandered his last opportunity to seize a starting major league gig.
