    • Josh Smith homers and doubles in loss to Mariners
Josh Smith homered and doubled in a loss to the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: Smith picked up one of two homers the Rangers hit off of Luis Castillo, and his was a solo shot that tied the game at 2-2. The left-handed hitting infielder is off to a strong start with the bat to open 2023, as the two extra-base hits has him slashing .292/.393/.417 over 72 at-bats. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

    • Luis Castillo hurls six strong in victory over TEX
Luis Castillo struck out six while throwing six innings of two-run baseball to pick up a win over the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: Castillo gave up four hits, and he walked two. There some traffic against the 31-year-old early, but he was able to keep runners at bay in another strong outing. Both runs came on solo blasts; one in the first by Nathaniel Lowe and another in the fourth by Josh Smith. After struggling in his first three starts, Castillo has allowed four earned runs total in his last three outings, and looks like the pitcher that fantasy managers were hoping to see. He’ll hope to keep it going against Atlanta next week. Rotoworld 54 minutes ago

    • Royals place Alec Marsh (elbow) on 15-day IL
Royals placed RHP Alec Marsh on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Marsh was hit by a line drive off Addison Barger on Wednesday which made him leave the game early. Originally the team called it a forearm injury, but tests revealed that the injury is on his elbow. The 25-year-old will be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks before he can return to action. Rotoworld Today, 9:12 am

    • Goes on injured list
The Royals placed Marsh on the 15-day injured Thursday with a right elbow contusion.

Advice: Marsh departed early in his start in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Toronto after being struck in the right elbow by a comebacker. X-rays came back negative on Marsh's elbow, and though he sustained nothing more than a bruise, the Royals decided it was best to shut him down for the next 15 days. The Royals called up Will Klein from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday to give the bullpen a fresh arm in the short term, but it's not immediately clear who will replace Marsh in the rotation. • Heads to bench Thursday
Velazquez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: With the Royals looking to give Vinnie Pasquantino a day out of the field and Salvador Perez a day off behind the plate in the series finale, Velazquez will be a casualty from the Kansas City lineup. Pasquantino will serve as the Royals' designated hitter in Velazquez's stead, while Perez takes over Pasquantino's usual spot at first base. Rotowire.com Today, 8:32 am
    • Likely back at third base Saturday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Devers (knee) isn't comfortable enough yet to play third base but will likely return to the position Saturday versus the Cubs, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: The good news is Devers is well enough to hit, as he'll be the club's designated hitter again Thursday after homering from the spot in his return to the lineup Wednesday. The Cubs are starting left-hander Shota Imanaga on Friday, so it's possible the lefty-hitting Devers will rest that day before returning to third base Saturday. With Devers (twice) and Tyler O'Neill (once) occupying the DH spot the last three days, Masataka Yoshida has been on the bench. However, it sounds like Yoshida should be back in there soon enough. • Moves to bench Thursday
Renfroe is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Renfroe will sit for the second time in three days while Kansas City opens up room in the outfield for Adam Frazier, who will occupy left field while MJ Melendez shifts over to right. Through 72 plate appearances this season, Renfroe is slashing just .149/.208/.284 with two home runs and 10 RBI. He could be in danger of fading into a part-time role in the Kansas City outfield. • Awarded fourth win
Garrett (4-0) got the win over the Giants on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over two innings while striking out four.

Advice: Garrett replaced Sean Manaea with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and retired Jorge Soler on the first pitch to end the inning. The reliever then needed only 12 pitches to get through the next frame before surrendering a solo homer to open the seventh. It marked the first earned run allowed on the season for Garrett, who is now tied for the major-league lead in wins. The right-hander has been outstanding out of the bullpen for New York thus far, posting a 0.71 ERA to go along with a 25:4 K:BB. Rotowire.com Today, 5:11 am
    • X-rays negative
X-rays on Marsh's right forearm came back negative Wednesday, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Advice: Marsh had to leave Wednesday's contest after taking a comebacker off his forearm in the fifth inning, though he was able to escape the incident with only a bruise. Manager Matt Quatraro said he expects the 25-year-old to be fine, and it seems Marsh still has a good chance to make his next start -- tentatively scheduled for Monday against the Blue Jays.
