    • Cubs activate and option Daniel Palencia on Monday
Cubs activated RHP Daniel Palencia from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: The 24-year-old hurler had already been at Triple-A Iowa on a minor league rehab assignment, so he’ll remain there while he continues to hone his craft. Palencia has posted a 6.55 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and a 12/8 K/BB ratio over 11 innings in seven appearances with the Cubs this season. Rotoworld Today, 9:09 am
    • Heating back up
DeJong went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI on Sunday against the Brewers.

Advice: DeJong began the day with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and popped a leadoff homer three frames later. He went deep four times in a 12-game span through mid-May and has now gone yard twice in the last three games. DeJong has a 34.2 percent strikeout rate across 184 plate appearances this season, which will prevent consistent production, but he's hit .245 with a .766 OPS and six home runs since the start of May. • Luis Arraez (shoulder) hopeful to play Monday
Luis Arraez (shoulder) told reporters after Sunday’s game that he was fine and would be in the Padres’ lineup on Monday.

Advice: The 27-year-old wizard with the bat suffered a shoulder injury while sliding into second base in the fifth inning on Sunday. It looks like it’s only a minor issue though and not something that is going to keep Arraez out of action. Be sure to check the Padres’ lineup prior to Monday’s battle against the Diamondbacks, but if Arraez has his way he’ll be in there. Rotoworld Today, 9:02 am

    • Nabs fifth steal
Vargas went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Guardians.

Advice: Getting another start at shortstop in place of CJ Abrams (shoulder) and batting ninth, Vargas swiped his fifth bag of the season in a productive afternoon. Abrams could be back in the lineup as soon as Monday against the Mets, bumping Vargas back to the bench, but the veteran utility player has been effective when called upon this season, slashing .288/.368/.385 through 120 plate appearances. • Racks up hold No. 10
Ottavino struck out two in a perfect eighth inning Sunday to record his 10th hold of the season in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza deployed Reed Garrett in the seventh inning and Ottavino in the eighth to protect a 4-3 lead to great effect, but Jake Diekman then blew the save in the ninth. The pecking order for saves in the absence of Edwin Diaz (shoulder) remains murky, but all three pitchers could see chances depending on the matchups. Ottavino hasn't made much of a case to claim the full-time closer gig -- since the beginning of May, he's stumbled to an 8.49 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB through 11.2 innings. • Perfect in sixth hold
Garrett struck out the side in a perfect seventh inning Sunday to record his sixth hold of the season in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: With the Mets holding a 4-3 lead, the right-hander was called in to the face the heart of Arizona's order and fanned Lourdes Gurriel, Christian Walker and Jake McCarthy on 11 pitches (nine strikes). Garrett has had some stumbles of late, getting tagged for earned runs in four of his last nine appearances with a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over that stretch, but he's still part of the high-leverage mix and a candidate for saves in the absence of Edwin Diaz (shoulder). • Michael Conforto (hamstring) could return Monday
Michael Conforto (hamstring) is tentatively expected to return to the Giants’ lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Advice: The 31-year-old outfielder played in a pair of minor league rehab games at Triple-A Sacramento over the weekend, going 1-for-5 (.200) with a 1/1 K/BB ratio. He was set to be evaluated on Monday, and as long as everything goes well he’ll be cleared to return. Before landing on the injured list on May 12, Conforto had been hitting .280/.331/.490 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 154 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 8:48 am
    • Struggles continue Sunday
Quintana came away with a no-decision in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out four.

Advice: The veteran southpaw once again had trouble keeping the ball in the park as he served up solo homers to Ketel Marte and Lourdes Gurriel in in the first inning. Quintana has been taken deep eight times in his last five starts, leading to a 5.13 ERA despite a 1.18 WHIP over that stretch. He lines up to take the mound next during the Mets' trip to London this weekend to face the Phillies. Rotowire.com Today, 8:34 am
    • Yoshida (thumb) could start rehab assignment soon
Masataka Yoshida (thumb) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment near the end of this week.

Advice: Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora told reporters on Sunday that Yoshida has seen considerable improvement and will “hopefully” be ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment before the end of the week. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since the beginning of May due to a strained left thumb. Before landing on the injured list he was hitting .275/.348/.388 with just two homers, 11 RBI and zero stolen bases in 89 plate appearances. Rotoworld Today, 8:14 am
