    • Roenis Elias left with a forearm cramp on Monday, but not before striking out eight and allowing one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Mets.
Advice: The Mariners were just being cautious with their young left-hander -- he was at 90 pitches and would have been pulled after the inning anyway -- and it would be surprising if his next start were pushed back. Elias needed a positive outing to prevent talk of a demotion, and he got it, tying for his second highest strikeout total of the season. All shouldn't be forgiven -- the 25-year-old left-hander was 0-3 while getting lit up for a 10.05 ERA over his previous three outings, and had coughed up four runs or more in five of seven to close out the first half -- but he just bought himself some leash. Assuming the injury isn't more serious than the team is letting on, Elias hosts the Orioles this weekend.

    • Roenis Elias left Monday's game against the Mets with an apparent arm injury.
Advice: Elias was visited by the trainer and seen stretching out his fingers/hand, so he could be dealing with some tightness in his forearm. The Mariners should provide more on his status shortly. Elias allowed one run while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings before exiting.

    • Phillies placed OF John Mayberry Jr. on the 15-day disabled list with left wrist inflammation.
Advice: Darin Ruf has been called up in a corresponding 25-man roster move. There's no timetable for Mayberry's return, though it doesn't sound like an overly serious injury.

    • In his return to the rotation, Bud Norris allowed two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings Monday against the Angels.
Advice: Demoted prior to the All-Star break to keep him on a regular pitching schedule, Norris walked two and allowed eight hits, but he also struck out eight. The right-hander struggled in his one-start sojourn in Double-A, so it was nice to see a quick return to form at the game's highest level. Norris (8-6, 3.78 ERA) stays out West next time around, taking on the Mariners this weekend in Seattle.

    • Orioles recalled RHP Bud Norris from Double-A Bowie.
Advice: Norris was sent down prior to the All-Star break in order to keep pitching. He'll make his return to the Orioles' rotation on Monday against the Angels. Norris holds a 3.96 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 15 starts this season.
