    • Madison Bumgarner held the Diamondbacks to two runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision.
Advice: San Francisco won the game in the top of the ninth inning on a pinch-it two-run single from Matt Duffy. Bumgarner gave up seven hits and two walks, but he kept the D'Backs from inflicting serious damage over his six frames. He struck out six, and now owns a 2.91 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 214/43 K/BB ratio in 210 innings this season. A hugely-important road start against the rival Dodgers is next.

    • Madison Bumgarner shut out the Dodgers for seven innings in the Giants' 9-0 drubbing Friday.
Advice: Bumgarner struck out nine to up his season total to 208, the most by a left-hander in Giants history. He's won each of his last five starts, and he's 18-9 with a 2.91 ERA for the season. With the victory, the Giants are now just two games back of the Dodgers in the NL West.

    • The Angels will make a "bullpen start" on Saturday against the Rangers in place of the injured Matt Shoemaker (oblique).
Advice: It will be either Wade LeBlanc or Michael Roth who will start the game, but the Angels will utilize many of the 18 pitchers they're carrying. Shoemaker might miss more than just the one start, so LeBlanc and/or Roth could be needed for another start next week.

    • Jorge De La Rosa fired six scoreless innings Wednesday in the Rockies' defeat of the Dodgers.
Advice: De La Rosa was staked to an eight-run lead after the first inning and went into cruise control, yielding only two hits and two walks while fanning three. He's now 14-11 on the season with a 4.14 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 132/63 K/BB ratio in 178 1/3 innings. The lefty will finish up his 2014 with a road start against the Padres.

    • Jorge De La Rosa yielded four runs (three earned) over six innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Friday.
Advice: De La Rosa dug himself an early hole by giving up a three-run homer to Matt Holliday in the first inning and was never able to recover with Adam Wainwright dominating Colorado's bats. The southpaw fanned six and walked three in the loss and now sits at 13-11 with a 4.28 ERA on the year. He'll get the Dodgers next at Coors Field.
