  • Robert Carson re-signed by Dodgers
Dodgers re-signed LHP Robert Carson to a minor league contract.

Advice: Carson spent all of this season in the minors, putting up a 5.74 ERA across three levels. He'll give the Dodgers some left-handed bullpen depth on the farm. Rotoworld.com

  • Cesar Cabral elects free agency
Cesar Cabral has elected free agency.

Advice: Cabral had trouble staying healthy with the Yankees and performed terribly this season, allowing three runs in his lone big league inning and posting a 6.28 ERA in the minors. The 25-year-old will seek a minor league deal elsewhere. Rotoworld.com

  • Uehara, Red Sox not close to a deal
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that there "have been preliminary talks" between the Red Sox and Koji Uehara, but "the sides aren’t close to a deal."

Advice: The Red Sox would like to keep Uehara as their closer but are not expected to extend a qualifying offer of $15.3 million. Cafardo notes that a one-year deal that might include an option "would be preferable." Uehara lost his closer gig after struggling down the stretch but was terrific overall, posting a 2.52 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 80/8 K/BB ratio over 64 1/3 innings. Rotoworld.com

  • Tim Lincecum dealing with sore neck
Tim Lincecum was unable to throw a scheduled bullpen session on Saturday due to a sore neck.

Advice: It's not clear how long the neck has been bothering Lincecum, but it could partly explain why he's yet to pitch this postseason. However, the right-hander will be on the World Series roster as one of two long relievers in San Francisco's bullpen. Rotoworld.com

  • John Lackey reiterates plans to play in 2015
John Lackey on Friday reiterated his plans to play next season.

Advice: Some have speculated that Lackey could retire rather than play under the Cardinals' $500,000 option for next season (which kicked in after he missed the 2012 campaign following Tommy John surgery). However, Lackey, who will turn 36 later this week, fully intends to honor the final year of his contract. "Great experience here," Lackey said. "Obviously it didn’t end the way we’d like it to. No complaints at all. A lot of young guys that will be back, and they’re big contributors. Definitely don’t see why not. The reason I came here was I had every intention of playing next year."
