  • Jung Ho Kang (knee) begins fielding grounders
Jung Ho Kang (knee) began fielding ground balls on Friday.

Advice: Kang posted a video on his Instagram account of him fielding grounders and he was moving around without any apparent limitations. Nearly five months removed from surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus and fractured tibia, Kang will begin the season on the disabled list but is hoping to be activated before the end of April. • Ian Desmond 'less of a target' for White Sox
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Ian Desmond "appears less of a target" for the White Sox than adding an outfielder.

Advice: USA Today's Bob Nightengale also previously reported that the White Sox' supposed interest in Desmond was overblown. Rosenthal notes that the club likes Tyler Saladino at shortstop and believes top prospect Tim Anderson could be ready to take over at the position before the end of 2016. Desmond has been linked to both the White Sox and Rays recently, but neither destination looks terribly likely at the moment. The shortstop has gained little traction in the free agent market this winter. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:13 pm

  • Phillies acquire Featherston from Angels
Phillies acquired INF Taylor Featherston from the Angels for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Advice: Featherston was designated for assignment last week after the Angels claimed Christian Friedrich off waivers from the Rockies. The 26-year-old stuck with the big club last season as a Rule 5 pick, but he batted just .162/.212/.247 over 169 plate appearances. Phillies general manager Matt Klentak was previously the assistant GM with the Angels, so he's clearly a fan. A strong defender, Featherston has options remaining, so he can be stashed in Triple-A. • Flores (ankle) working out at full strength
Wilmer Flores (ankle) said Thursday he is working out at full strength.

Advice: He also said he expects to be 100 percent for spring training. Flores suffered a non-displaced fracture of his left ankle on November 26, but the injury shouldn't hold him back when camp kicks into gear later this month. The 24-year-old is expected to be a reserve player for the Mets this year. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 2:27 pm
