  • Orioles unlikely to retain Matt Wieters
Jon Heyman of hears that Matt Wieters and the Orioles "are believed to be tens of millions of dollars apart" in their valuations for the catcher.

Advice: Heyman adds that the two sides "didn’t even talk about an extension when they met last week" because "it would have been a waste of time." Wieters is looking for a Russell Martin/Brian McCann (five years, $82-85 million) type contract, according to Heyman, but the Orioles "aren’t expected to get near that." Heyman also adds that the club is unlikely to extend another qualifying offer (assuming there are still qualifying offers in the new CBA). It sounds like the impending free agent is likely to end up elsewhere unless his demands change. Today, 5:54 am
  • David Dahl races around for RBI triple in L
David Dahl went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple in Thursday's loss to the Giants.

Advice: Dahl notched his RBI three-bagger against Johnny Cueto in the first inning. It gave the Rockies an early 2-0 lead, one which they would squander as the game progressed. Since being called up in the middle of the summer, Dahl, 22, has impressed to the tune of a .316/.362/.512 triple-slash across 209 at-bats. In addition, the outfielder has mashed seven homers and driven in 24 runs. He has picked up an extra-base hit in each of his last four games. Yesterday, 10:37 pm
  • Jon Gray roughed up for five runs by Giants
Jon Gray struggled in Thursday's loss to the Giants, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Advice: Gray also walked three in what was a less-than-stellar finish to his 2016 season. The Giants ripped him for a pair of runs in the fourth inning, then came back around for three more in the sixth. The 24-year-old right-hander's 4.61 ERA might not inspire much confidence, but Gray also rocked a 185/59 K/BB ratio across 168 innings. He closed the season with double-digit strikeout showings in two of his last three starts. Yesterday, 10:31 pm
  • Miranda scatters four hits into sixth inning
Ariel Miranda was sharp in taking a no-decision against the A's on Thursday, allowing one run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Advice: Miranda struck out six and did not walk a batter on the evening. Chad Pinder cracked a solo home run off him in the sixth inning, but it was otherwise smooth sailing for the 27-year-old southpaw. In 11 appearances (10 starts) this season, Miranda has pitched to a 3.88 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 44/18 K/BB ratio. Yesterday, 10:07 pm
  • Mikie Mahtook doubles, homers in win over CWS
Mikie Mahtook went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Thursday's win over the White Sox.

Advice: Mahtook took a Jose Quintana offering for a solo ride in the fourth inning. The dinger was his third of the season. While the 26-year-old outfielder is hitting just .199/.237/.295 over 176 at-bats, he has picked it up of late, notching two-hit efforts in three of his last four games. Yesterday, 9:10 pm
