  • Sean Newcomb (knee) starting rehab assignment
Sean Newcomb (knee) will kick off a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday with the Athletics’ Rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate.

Advice: Newcomb, who is currently on the 60-day injured list with left knee irritation, is working his way back from last year’s knee surgery and is expected to return as a reliever. The 30-year-old southpaw might be ready to rejoin Oakland’s bullpen in a couple weeks. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
  • Designated for assignment
Adcock was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Saturday.

Advice: Adcock will now be placed on waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, he'll likely remain with Triple-A Toledo. The team claimed Easton Lucas from the Athletics on Saturday and Adcock was the odd man out on the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com 55 minutes ago
  • Claimed by Tigers, sent to Triple-A
Lucas was claimed off waivers by the Tigers and optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.

Advice: Lucas was designated for assignment by the Athletics on Thursday and he'll now join the Tigers organization. The left-hander appeared in three contests with Oakland, surrendering six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out six batters over 3.2 innings. He'll look to impress with Toledo in order to earn a shot with Detroit's major-league roster down the road. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago
  • Félix Bautista (elbow) starts throwing program
Félix Bautista (elbow) resumed throwing on Friday.

Advice: Bautista isn’t expected to return until the 2025 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery last October, and a follow-up procedure in early February, but he’s already kicked off a throwing program. The hard-throwing 28-year-old stopper should be ready to go in the early stages of next season. Rotoworld Today, 10:40 am
  • Shelby Miller (elbow) resumes throwing
Shelby Miller (elbow) resumed throwing on Friday.

Advice: Miller underwent a hydro dissection procedure earlier this week to help alleviate nerve inflammation in his right elbow. The 33-year-old righty is presumably at least a few weeks away from returning to Detroit’s bullpen mix. Rotoworld Today, 10:27 am
  • Returns Friday
Walker (back) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn a hold in Friday's 10-5 win over the Rockies.

Advice: Walker was dealing with back tightness earlier in the week, but he was able to move past it with the help of Thursday's off day. The right-hander is up to five holds on the year, and he's added a 2.35 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB over 23 innings. He continues to be one of the Giants' most versatile relievers, though that doesn't often lead to him in late-inning assignments. Rotowire.com Today, 10:23 am
  • Will begin rehab in High-A
Manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that he expects Smyly (hip) to begin a rehab assignment with High-A South Bend sometime next week, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

Advice: Counsell did not specify how many appearances Smyly will make in the minors, though he may require multiple outings after having been on the shelf since April 23 with a hip impingement. The 34-year-old southpaw put up a 4.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 12.2 innings before getting hurt, and he will likely return to a multi-inning relief role once he rejoins Chicago. • Picks up fifth hold
De Los Santos registered a hold against Atlanta on Friday, striking out one batter over a perfect two-thirds of an inning.

Advice: De Los Santos entered in the seventh frame with the tying run at the plate and struck out Zack Short before getting Ronald Acuna to fly out to escape the danger. The hold was the first this month for the right-hander hurler, who had given up a homer in three of his previous four outings prior to Friday. The long ball has been an issue for De Los Santos this season -- of the six earned runs he's allowed, five have come on solo homers -- but he's otherwise been solid, posting a 3.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB while collecting five holds across 17.1 innings. • Moves to 60-day IL
The Rays transferred Waguespack (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Saturday.

Advice: Waguespack will give up his spot on the 40-man roster in order to make room for recent acquisition Richard Lovelady. Waguespack landed on the injured list May 6 due to right shoulder inflammation, and he will now be ineligible to return until July 5. Rotowire.com Today, 9:06 am
