Commish Notes

  • 4/5/2024
    Hi guys,
I was going to add the additional starting UTIL. slot but Yahoo gave the following denial:

    "There was a problem.
You cannot change the number of slots for a starting position after your draft completed. You cannot go from 1 Util slots to 2. (Error #850)
You can have a maximum roster size of 30. (Error #223)

Since we've already drafted and each team has 30 active players on their rosters we cannot make any changes.
    Sorry about that.
    Thanks very much!
    Michael

Another manager wanted to go to a second UT. position. I'll try to add it on Sunday after the last game has started yet before the first game on Monday. This would only be for a Util spot with no additional player on the roster.

Per a request from a manager I expanded the IL list to 5.

If there are other requests I'm all ears. How about N/A spots from 1 to 2?

Or reducing the time on waivers from 2 days to 1?

Add another bench slot? (8 to 9)

    Add another Utility slot?

    Thanks.
    Michael

    Hello Managers,
I want to thank you for joining (or returning to) our league which I hope you'll find to be quietly competitive. We are all here to have fun and to stop the Expos from a 4peat.

I'd like to address a couple of topics regarding the league:

    1. The trade rejection bar is set a bit lower than previous years. Before, it was a simple majority, but I think four of twelve managers should be enough to call a trade questionable.

    2. This year's scoring reflects a cost (in points) for what is called "pitcher spam." Teams get an extra point for each batter slot filled for each day -that's plus 11 points each day or potentially 77 per week). For perspective, if I recall a team might typically scores between 700 to 1100 points a week so the 77 points is a meaningful incentive.

    3. On the pitching side, each "start" for a pitcher has an ante cost of 25 points. This is to discourage throwing endless "starts" against an opponent to gain a cheesy win. What spammers will find is that throwing questionable pitchers at an opponent will cost more points than one gains. Whether spamming or not, a pounded pitcher will get negative points so be judicious in your selection of SPs.

    4. Relating to spamming, all teams are expected to maintain enough batters in their lineup to potentially complete a full lineup. That number is 11. If you wish to use all your bench slots for SP/RPs go ahead but please maintain at least 11 batters on your team. The same is true for pitcher slots -please maintain 11 on your team.

    5. The Commish will look into complaints regarding pitcher or even hitter spam. Usually, a reminder is more than sufficient..

    6. This happens in a lot of leagues so I'd like to address it early. If one of our managers stops managing their team how would you like this handled?

    Options:
1: Do nothing and let all teams play against the unmanaged team.
    2. Have the Commish (you can trust him :) ) make generic moves for the unmanaged team every four weeks to maintain some level of competitiveness for the unmanaged team. Of course, before managing an unmanaged team the Commish has the option to do his moves/pickups first. Also, the Commish could never pick up any player cut from an unmanaged team until after the waiver wire deadline has been cleared.
These moves might be to: Bench injured or non-starting players and acquire best fit or better replacements for the starting slots only. Replacements/adds would be decided by picking up the top available points for the missing position for the past 4 weeks of play.
All this is wordy so if you don't like it Option 1 is OK but I'm willing to wear more than one hat -for you guys!

    7. Lastly, would anyone want the DL and N/A slots expanded? I believe they are 4 and 1 respectively.

I wish you all the best and hope we have a great year.
    Thanks very much!

  • After the draft I see that the Divisions are not balanced with a 5-5-2 distribution. I will try to fix that but i don't think it is editable.
