Commish Notes

  • Thanks for another great season. In my opinion there was less discussion this year with the removal of message boards. Hopefully people start to use the Chat next season. Yahoo states that they are improving it.

Overall I enjoyed baseball a lot more this year. Mainly because the Texas Rangers were relavant and I loved that they got rid of a lot of dead time with the pitching clock. Baseball looked more like the 80s, when I grew to love it. Back then hitters didn't have to readjust their batting gloves after every pitch. The clock just got us back to regular baseball.

I don't plan on any changes for next year and I hope everyone is back. If you want to drop out, please send me a private message or chat, so I can find a replacement.

  • Just a reminder that each team can keep 0 - 2 players for next season.

  • We are coming to the end of the season and there are still some battles going on. It looks like Vottoman Empire should win this year unless they have an epic collapse. Honey Nut ichiros and Can a Corn are battling for second. CrystalMeth Tweakers should get 4th. Cubs, Slumpers, Bomb Squad, and Big Chill are all battling for 5th to 8th. I will post hitting and innings totals shortly in the next post.

We did not have as much conversation as previous years. I guess this is due to Yahoo going to Chat from message boards. I hope that if they improve chat for next year, we will go back to our polling questions and topics that we discussed.

I'm probably going to start focusing on fantasy football since the season starts next week.

  • We are now at the All-Star break and 56% through the season. It looks like the Texas Rangers needed the break. I think the Astros will catch them, but they should be able to hold on to one of the wild card spots. I hope your team drafted well yesterday. I think the Rangers were a little surprised the Wyatt Langford fell to them. I thought they were going to get one of the high school outfielders. It is just so hard to predict draft in baseball. I liked the last 2 Ranger number one picks and it currently does not look good with Leiter not finding strike zone and Rocker hurt. Anyway, on to fantasy.

There have been a lot of transactions made this year. It looks like only 2 teams may hit the 150 maximum with only the Cubs having to limit who they pickup from this point on.

The Vottoman Empire does have a pretty big league, but they are over on innings pitched and games played at all positions. They are headed out of the country with limited internet access for month of August so they can be caught. Can a Corn and Honey Nut Ichiros are fighting for 2nd. Honey Nut is behind on innings pitched. With Rodon just coming back and Woodruff coming back soon, they should be able to make up ground. They may need to pickup pitchers who are predicted to win to get their innings to maximum allowed.

The Slumpers, Tweakers, and Cubs are battling for 4th. The Tweakers have made the biggest move since my last post jumping from 9th to 5th. Last year champions are fighting back. Texas Leaguers have also jumped up 2 spots. The Big Chill, last year's 2nd place team, must be fighting fatigue from last year.

Here are the pitching and hitting stats at the All-star break.
Rank Team Name Pitching totals Pts per inning
    1 The Vottoman Empire 3,149 3.661
    3 Honey Nut Ichiros 2,633 3.657
    2 Can a Corn 2,643 3.294
    6 Cubs 2,754 3.169
    10 TeddyBallGame 2,091 3.152
    8 Texas Leaguers 2,240 3.028
    4 The Slumpers 2,458 3.017
    5 CrystalMeth Tweakers 2,447 2.972
    7 Bomb Squad 2,258 2.938
    9 The Big Chill 2,152 2.792
    Total 24,823 3.170

The average points per inning is 3.170, with 3 teams above this mark, one team right on it, and 6 teams below. The top 3 teams overall have the top 3 points per inning.

    Rank Team Name Hitting Totals
    1 The Vottoman Empire 4,136
    2 Can a Corn 3,814
    3 Honey Nut Ichiros 3,718
    4 The Slumpers 3,679
    7 Bomb Squad 3,667
    5 CrystalMeth Tweakers 3,611
    8 Texas Leaguers 3,481
    9 The Big Chill 3,446
    6 Cubs 3,294
    10 TeddyBallGame 3,196

I was a little shocked when I saw the hitting totals. It almost follows the overall ranking of teams with the top 4 teams having the same hitting ranking as total ranking. Bomb Squad just up a couple of spots and Cubs fall down 3 spots.

Enjoy the All-star break! Look forward to remainder of year.

  • We are now through a 3rd of the season and the Rangers are still in first. It has been a long time, since we have a team to root for in DFW area. Below is an update on hitting and pitching stats. Hitting is accounting for 60% of the points this year. I'm thinking that pitch clock and no shift is helping hitters, especially against pitchers that could lose a few pounds. I think Urias, Lynn, and Manoah are a few examples. It seems like it is an aerobic workout now for them to pitch constantly all inning. You probably have examples that I'm wrong. I could only think of 3 pitchers.

    Hitting Rankings:
    Rank Team Name Hitting Totals
    1 The Vottoman Empire 2,483
    3 Can a Corn 2,303
    6 Bomb Squad 2,261
    2 The Slumpers 2,249
    4 Honey Nut Ichiros 2,246
    7 The Big Chill 2,151
    8 TeddyBallGame 2,011
    9 CrystalMeth Tweakers 1,980
    10 Texas Leaguers 1,947
    5 Cubs 1,906
    Total 21,537

On Pitching totals I sorted by points per innings. It is a challenge to get 1400 innings, so maybe I should have sorted by pitching totals.

Rank Team Name Pitching totals Pts per inning
    4 Honey Nut Ichiros 1,439 3.546
    8 TeddyBallGame 1,400 3.464
    1 The Vottoman Empire 1,740 3.414
    3 Can a Corn 1,407 3.200
    6 Bomb Squad 1,260 3.109
    5 Cubs 1,654 3.030
    2 The Slumpers 1,560 2.965

    7 The Big Chill 1,295 2.878
    10 Texas Leaguers 1,201 2.788
    Total 14,304 3.126

Sorted by pitching totals - this should not be a factor if everyone gets 1400 innings

Rank Team Name Pitching totals Pts per inning
    1 The Vottoman Empire 1,740 3.414
    5 Cubs 1,654 3.030

  • It has been a few weeks, since my last note. I believe we are about 1/5 through the season, so we have a long way to go. Below is my first update on hitting and pitching stats.

  • If you ever want to see where you ranked on a waiver claim, you can select league\transactions. Then select waiver offers on the far right. You will notice that there have be 2 players currently who had multiple offers for them when they went through claiming process.

  • We are now about 10% through the season and the leadership board has most of the new teams on it. They must have figured out our unique scoring system.
Bomb Squad joined in 2021, Slumpers 2023 (new owner same name), Can a Corn 2022, and TeddyBallgame 2020.

10% of 150 moves is 15. I know as we go through the year, fewer and fewer players become available, so the amount of moves slow down.

The season is still too young for me to provide any hitting or pitching stats. I will probably wait until the end of the month.

I do like the amount of moves and interest everyone has been showing.

I'm going to post a chat asking predictions for this year. Who will be the 6 division champions, 3 wild cards in each conference and who makes and wins world series. I hope I get some responses.
    Apr 16 5:46 PM
  • Chat instead of message board. I have rarely used chat over the years. It just did not seem as friendly as boards. I have tried to use this year, but I'm not getting any responses, so I thought I share a little bit as I try to learn how to use. This is from website and not app.

Click on purple square bubble on bottom right hand corner.

You will then see all chats under Chat button. You can hit leagues to see all leagues that you are in.

If you go to our league, you will have 2 choices: Chat and Updates.

Currently Chat has some comments from Cubs, Honey Nut, Slumpers and I. If you click on updates, it will have all pickups and drops.

If you want to send an individual chat, hit the circle with an i in it. This will pull up individual members in the league, which you can select. This may be worthwhile if you want to chat on a trade before officially offering it.

  • Baseball season has finally arrived. I thought the Nola vs DeGrom matchup would be a low scoring game, which caused me to be very surprised with the outcome. I'm expecting the Rangers to finish about 5 games over 500 this year with a better year for every position except 1B and CF, not to mention all the pitchers except Martin who is do for some regression.

Our new owner jumped to a great start with 156.5 points. Our current champion suffered a serious setback with Verlander getting hurt. I feel your pain. DeGrom got hurt for me last year right after we declared keepers.

22 transactions have already been made. I know from my end I had 4 people go on IL at beginning of season and I needed to backfill those spots. I'm assuming about half of the transactions were due to this reason. The other half was to balance team out after surveying draft results.

I know they removed messaging boards this year. I will try to use chat occasionally. Hopefully we can migrate to this tool without any issues. I know we had some good posts and questions throughout the years.

We have a long season, so use transactions wisely and have fun!

  • Reminder that the draft is at 7:30 CST this Tuesday. Baseball season is about to start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Mar 25 7:39 AM
  • I have approved keepers and set draft order. It looks like 5 teams decided to not keep anyone. I decided to keep 1 player. The rest of the teams kept 2 players. You can see order and kept players under draft results. I really hope that teams did not forget to set keepers.

Now everyone knows draft order and players available.
    Mar 20 4:24 AM
  • Last reminder to set your keepers. You can keep 0,1,or 2 players. If you keep 0, you keep your 1st and 2nd round picks. If you keep 1, you lose your first pick, but have your 2nd. If you keep 2, then you lose your first 2 picks. You can go to draft results to see when you pick in each round.

If a team mistakenly keeps more than 2 players, I will cancel any player after the first 2.

I hope 2 set keepers and assign to first 2 picks before I bowl on Monday, so teams can prepare for the draft.

I hope everyone is enjoying March Madness.
    Mar 18 1:40 PM
  • Everyone,

The keeper deadline is next Sunday. I hopefully can set keepers and draft order by Monday/Tuesday. Looking forward to the season.

I did send invites to March Madness, if anyone is interested in playing for fun.
    Mar 11 3:43 PM
  • Everyone,

Just a reminder that keeper deadline is less than 2 weeks. Please make your selections by Sunday (13 days).
    Mar 6 7:20 PM
  • Everyone,

It has been almost a month since my last note. Spring training is starting, so everyone's initial rankings will probably start changing in the next few weeks. Injuries always happen during Spring training and prospects get hyped. 3/20 is the keeper deadline, so please set your keepers. Again, you can only select 0,1,or 2 keepers. If you select more, I will have to make a decision on which 2 you keep (it did happen one year). I plan on watching my first Ranger game this weekend. Baseball is almost back!!!!!
    Feb 24 6:51 PM
  • Everyone,

I renewed the league with only changing last trade date by adding one more week. I did go to messages last year and reviewed my notes and I don't remember us deciding on any changes for this year. It looks like all but one team has returned. I will probably try to contact Slumpers in next 2 weeks to see if they are going to return. After that I will open it up to the public. If someone has a friend that wants to join, please send me their email address. I have set 3/20 as keeper deadline with draft on 3/28 at 7:30 p.m. If I need to change these dates, let me know. We have plenty of time before the draft. I'm looking forward to the changes to the real baseball rules this year. I think it will be more watchable. My guess is that stealing points in fantasy will go up.
