      Phillips earned a hold against the White Sox on Monday, allowing one hit in a scoreless inning of work.

      Advice: It was somewhat surprising to see Phillips -- who is the Dodgers' primary closer -- used in the eighth frame, but there was plenty of sense behind the move given that the White Sox were bringing up the heart of their order. Phillips got through the inning unscathed despite allowing a one-out double to Luis Robert, and Alex Vesia earned his fourth save with a clean frame in the ninth. Phillips' usage Monday suggests that manager Dave Roberts isn't opposed to using him before the ninth inning in the highest-leverage situations, but the right-hander should still receive the vast majority of save chances for Los Angeles.       Vesia struck out one batter in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save against the White Sox on Monday.

      Advice: In a somewhat surprising move, the Dodgers deployed primary closer Evan Phillips to face the heart of Chicago's order in the eighth inning. That left closing duties to Vesia, who needed just 10 pitches to slam the door on the White Sox and earn his fourth save. Monday's usage suggests that manager Dave Roberts isn't opposed to having Phillips handle the highest-leverage situations even when they come before the ninth frame, and Vesia may be the likeliest option to close in such instances. Nonetheless, Phillips is still likely to get the vast majority of save opportunities, so fantasy managers shouldn't bank on many more saves from Vesia moving forward.       Griffin Canning limited the A’s to one run in seven innings for a victory in a 5-1 game Monday.

      Advice: Tyler Nevin’s homer was the only damage. The A’s almost had another homer against Hans Crouse in the ninth, but Taylor Ward caught Tyler Soderstrom’s shot to left that likely would have bounced off the top of the wall and over. The win was Canning’s first since May 15 and third in 16 starts on the season. He’s clearly throwing better now than he did in April, but it’s not enough to offer him mixed-league value.     • Luis Medina pulled after three against Angels
      Luis Medina lost to the Angels after allowing four runs — three earned — in three innings on Monday.

      Advice: The good news for the A’s is that Aaron Brooks was able to work the rest of the game afterwards, saving the bullpen. Medina dropped to 1-3 with a 5.25 ERA.       Paxton allowed three hits and three walks while striking out six batters over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Monday.

      Advice: Paxton needed 91 pitches to get through five frames, so he wasn't able to record a third straight quality start or hang around long enough for Los Angeles' offense to supply him a run. Nonetheless, the veteran left-hander was very effective, and he flashed some of the swing-and-miss stuff of his peak seasons with 18 whiffs. Since giving up a season-high seven runs (six earned) over 1.2 innings versus Pittsburgh in his first start of June, Paxton has surrendered just two runs across 18 frames over his subsequent three outings.     • Freddy Peralta strikes out six against Rangers
      Freddy Peralta allowed two runs over five innings and struck out six versus the Rangers on Monday.

      Advice: Peralta got 15 whiffs tonight, but he ran up a pitch count of 104 in five innings, preventing him from working any deeper into the game. He’s finished six innings just once in his last six starts, which is a real problem given that he’s supposed to be the ace of a rotation that’s quite shorthanded at the moment.     • Trevor Megill records 16th save for Brewers
      Trevor Megill was perfect in the ninth in earning his 16th save Monday against the Rangers.

      Advice: Remember when it was Abner Uribe and then Joel Payamps getting saves for the Brewers. Megill didn’t earn his first until Apr. 25, so all 16 of his have come in a two-month span. Rotoworld Today, 9:15 pm
       
    • Michael Lorenzen solid for five against Brewers
      Michael Lorenzen yielded two runs in five-plus innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Brewers.

      Advice: Lorenzen and Freddy Peralta pitched to a stalemate in this one. Lorenzen struck out five and walked one while throwing 91 pitches. It’s the seventh straight start in which he’s allowed three runs or fewer, and while he didn’t go deep tonight, he’s completed six innings in five of those outing and 10 of 13 starts for the year.       Munoz was charged with a blown save Monday against Tampa Bay, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout in one-third of an inning.

      Advice: Munoz entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and runners on second and third. He walked Jose Caballero before allowing a two-run single to Yandy Diaz, giving the Rays a 4-3 lead. While Munoz blew the save, it is encouraging that he was called upon for the high-leverage situation over fellow closer Ryne Stanek, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning. The Mariners closer situation should still be considered a committee moving forward, with Munoz offering the most upside. Despite blowing the save, the 25-year-old has been dominant this season, compiling a 1.41 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 43:11 K:BB over 32 innings, converting 13-of-15 save opportunities with six holds.
