    • Luis Gil struggles again in loss
      Luis Gil labored through 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday against the Mets. He allowed five earned runs with four walks and just two strikeouts.

      Advice: There’s been a hard shift in Gil’s season over the past week. He gave up 18 ER in his first 80 innings and 12 ER in his last 5 2/3 frames. He looked uncomfortable and weirdly enough, these last two starts he threw his lowest percentage of fastballs and two of his three highest percentages of changeups in any start this season. It’s important to note that he threw only 136 2/3 innings between 2021 and 2023, so the 85 2/3 he’s already thrown this season are already substantial given his lengthy injury history.

    • Sean Manaea wins, chased by rain
      Sean Manaea pitched five innings before a long rain delay on Wednesday against the Yankees. He allowed just two hits and no runs while walking five and punching out three in a win.

      Advice: This was almost the night Manaea would finally complete six innings for the first time since May 13th. Almost, that is, until a massive thunderstorm held this game up for almost two hours when he had thrown 77 pitches through five innings.     • Grayson Rodriguez goes seven strong in win
      Grayson Rodriguez allowed two runs across seven innings in a 4-2 win over the Guardians. He struck out four without walking a batter.

      Advice: Rodriguez’s changeup was especially lethal in this one: dropping three inches more than his season average and forcing five swings and misses. He ended his day on a beautiful one low and out of the zone to Brayan Rocchio that got him through seven innings for the second time in three starts.     • Craig Kimbrel earns 17th save
      Craig Kimbrel struck out the side and walked one batter on Wednesday to nail down the save against the Guardians.

      Advice: Kimbrel continues to drink from the fountain of youth. His 17th save snapped the Orioles’ losing streak and he has his highest strikeout rate since 2021. He is locked in as the closer in Baltimore. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:12 pm
       
    • Gunnar Henderson smashes 26th home run
      Gunnar Henderson went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Wednesday against the Guardians.

      Advice: This man is a revelation. He drove in the Orioles’ only runs until the seventh inning in this game. His 26 home runs trail only Aaron Judge. He joined Judge, Shohei Ohtani, and Juan Soto as the only players with an OPS over 1.000. He also has 13 stolen bases, 70 runs scored, and 57 RBI while playing elite shortstop defense.     • Jhonkensy Noel homers in first MLB at-bat
      Jhonkensy Noel went 1-for-4 with his first major league home run on Wednesday against the Orioles.

      Advice: What a moment for Noel to send one over the fence in his first at-bat as a big leaguer. He put up 18 homers, a .578 slugging percentage, and had three batted balls over 115 MPH in 65 games at AAA this year, so power is his calling card. Josh Naylor is the Guardians’ every day first baseman, but David Fry has faltered in June and played a good bit of corner outfield and catcher along with being the Guardians’ usual DH.     • Carlos Carrasco allows two runs in no-decision
      Carlos Carrasco allowed two earned runs in five innings Wednesday against the Orioles. He struck out three and walked two in a no-decision.

      Advice: It wasn’t pretty, but Carrasco went toe-to-toe with Grayson Rodriguez and kept his Guardians in the game. He kept his fastball around 93 MPH, gave the Orioles a heavy diet of sliders, and kept every Oriole besides Gunnar Henderson off the board. He’ll get the White Sox in his next start.     • Zach Neto with two hits, drives in three runs
      Zach Neto went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and three RBI in the Angels’ 5-1 win over the Athletics on Wednesday.

      Advice: Neto’s three-run double in the sixth inning put the Angels ahead after being stifled all afternoon by Joey Estes. He’s had a sneaky solid season, with 10 homers, 10 steals, and 18 doubles. Hopefully Ron Washington decides to move him up in the batting order soon. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:51 pm

      Joey Estes was pulled after 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday against the Angels and allowed two runs in a no-decision. He struck out a career-best eight batters and walked two in a loss.

      Advice: Estes allowed just four base runners through his first five innings: back-to-back hits to start the game, a hit by pitch, and intentional walk. Then, he was pulled after a walk and single in the sixth inning and Austin Adams promptly imploded allowing five runs, two of which were charged to Estes.
