    • MacKenzie Gore denied win after strong showing
      MacKenzie Gore allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings and struck out eight Monday against the Mets.

      Advice: Gore was at 104 pitches, so it’s kind or understandable that he was pulled in the sixth. Still, he seemed to be very much in control at that point. He’d given up just a soft single before rebounding to retire the next two batters in the sixth. The Nationals pulled him with a 2-0 lead in favor of Derek Law, and the Mets, aided by a CJ Abrams error, went on to score three runs in the frame.       Gore did not factor into the decision in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: The Washington southpaw created an incredible 21 whiffs to collect his eight punchouts. This was a bounce-back performance for Gore as he struggled in five June starts with a 5.13 ERA across 26.1 innings. The 25-year-old's season ERA now stands at 3.47 with 107:29 K:BB over 90.2 innings. He is tentatively scheduled to make his next outing against the Cardinals at home this weekend.       The Orioles activated Burnes (personal) from the paternity list Monday.

      Advice: Burnes was away from the club for the final three games of its weekend series against the Rangers while tending to more important family matters.     • Gallen’s start moved up to face Dodgers
      The Diamondbacks are moving up Zac Gallen’s next start to Thursday against the Dodgers.

      Advice: The Arizona Diamondbacks want to get Gallen pitching on every fifth day until the All-Star break, which means he will now face the Dodgers instead of the Padres on Friday as was originally planned. Instead, Slade Cecconi will be moved back to take that start. It’s obviously not great news for fantasy leagues, but the Dodgers have some injuries in their lineup, and Gallen is talented enough that you’re probably starting him regardless of opponent.       Merrill went 3-for-4 with a double and a run in Sunday's loss to Boston.

      Advice: Merrill was the only Padre to notch multiple hits in the contest, and he scored the team's only run after belting a one-out double in the seventh inning. The rookie finished June with back-to-back three-hit games, with half of his knocks during the pair of contests going for extra bases. Merrill swung a hot bat for most of the month, and he finished June with a .320/.346/.650 slash line along with nine home runs, 20 RBI, 17 runs and two stolen bases.       Anderson (7-8) yielded six runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.2 innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Tigers.

      Advice: Anderson gave up one run through three innings before the Tigers plated three runs in the fourth. He was charged with two more when Carson Kelly drilled a three-run homer off Andrew Wantz in the fifth. It was the most runs allowed by Anderson this season and his ERA jumped from 2.63 to 3.03 through 104 frames. He went 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in six June outings.       Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Gelof gave the A's their lone run of the day when he took Brandon Pfaadt deep to right-center in the fifth. It was his ninth long ball of the year and sixth overall in June. Overall, it's been a disappointing season for the second-year player, but his bat woke up a bit over the latter part of the month. In 11 games since June 18, Gelof slashed .275/.310/.625 with four homers, eight RBI and eight runs scored, which has been his most productive stretch of the season thus far.     • Posts quality start Sunday
      Pfaadt allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings Sunday against the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision.

      Advice: Pfaadt carried a shutout into the fifth inning before serving up a solo home run to Zack Gelof to tie the game at 1-1. That was the lone mark against him, though it was enough to cost him a chance at the win after the Diamondbacks didn't take the lead back until the bottom of the seventh. Sunday was the third time in June Pfaadt punched out eight batters, but it came on the heels of consecutive starts in which he combined for just two strikeouts in 12.2 innings. Length has been a strength for Pfaadt, as he's gone at least six innings in 13 of his last 15 starts.       Advice: Walker ignited the scoring in the fourth with an RBI base knock and later extended Arizona's lead with another RBI single in the seventh. It was his seventh game in June with multiple hits and his fifth game of the year with a trio of base knocks. Walker has been a steady source of run production for the Diamondbacks this season, slashing .256/.330/.472 with 17 homers, 53 RBI, 49 runs and a 33:88 BB:K in 358 plate appearances.
